Shortly after the 2009 All-Ireland Final between Cross & Dr Crokes, it emerged that a warrant for the arrest of one of the Crokes players was issued in London because he had gone AWOL from the British Army.
Unfortunately none of the Crossmaglen players were aware that there was a Brit on the opposing team at the time of the final.

This is a new one by me anyway! Who is the player do you know?
That a cracking story, any news on who the player was or is that classified ?

His name is Johnny McCromwell but Crokes cleverly list him as A. N. Peep O'Day. You can catch him out Great Escape style (or Father Manus Sweeney) by putting out a hand before the throw in and saying 'Jolly good luck old chap'. If he says 'Yerra' followed by incoherent mumbling, he is your man.

We do have seanies story Anglo he told the indo and numerous national media organs, what is missing is Andrews story and I presume the celt has spoken with people in the know as to what happened. Funny, my sources tell me almost exactly what the celt printed. It done now anyway and its a good thing for Cavan that he's gone and hopefully we can bring these true Cavan men on to the next level.

Its a good thing for Cavan that their best player in donkeys years in gone? Can't fathom this attitude at all. All it would have taken here is for the co. board or the manager to pick up the phone and say "look, don't do anything rash..get yourself into shape and you'll be back on the panel in no time". All this circus could have been avoided.

No. It's a good thing the most disruptive player is gone. How much shit do you allow a talented player away with before he starts having a negative effect on others? I have a low tolerance for this crap. And please, our best player? Highly debatable but I'm sure seanie thinks he is

What "disruptive" stuff did he get up to?

Actually mentioned him already, but Mick Spillane has everything I'm sure...not sure if he won a Railway cup but won the rest alright.

Yes according to Wikipedia, he does.

The reason I started this thread was because I was told that Paddy O'Rourke was the only man to have won the five major titles of All-Ireland Senor, u-21, Minor, NFL & Club.

We now have Paddy O'Rourke, MFR & Tony Davis.  Any others?

Pretty sure Charlie Nelligan has the full set aswell now that you mention it...7 seniors, minor 1975, U-21 in 76, couple of national leagues, club in 1985 with Castleisland. Few allstars aswell.

Dont Mean to offend hear but was Pat Spillane any good?  He talks a good game on the sunday show so i assume he could play. Never actaully seen him play.

If anyone wants to give me links il check them out..

Get your hands on Kerry's Golden years on DVD and have a look for yourself. 9 Allstars, (6 in a row between 76-81) and man of the match in 2 all ireland finals is a fair indication of how good he was.

A. The international teams train more than a few times and we all know both teams genuinely want to win, regardless of other criticisms. Therefore the games are proper contests.

B. The provinces are not at full strength, the munster team isn't even close, and they haven't been for many years. Is anybody, anywhere in the world debating the merits of certain players inclusion, are they ****.

C. To paraphrase Martin Johnson, footballers want to play football, shocker!

Lack of interest from Kerry again? speaking of Kerry & going off topic how were they allowed to withdraw from the McGrath cup? I heard the excuses of club, college players away but in truth we had more players away during the FBD & have less of pick than Kerry.

There are 4 Kerry lads on the munster team for Sunday..thats not too bad all things considered. Kerry, like a lot of county's have a serious training plan for this break in the league...Tipp haven't released ANY of their players because of it.
On the McGrath cup, it was decided that with all the players missing, plus, up to 17/18 potential players tied in with their college teams it wouldn't be worthwhile scraping together a team.

Many teams have serious training plans in place, Dublin have one of the biggest but it didn't stop them releasing 11 players for the railway cup. Like i said we had just as many if not more players missing for the FBD some games we only had 3 subs but we didn't withdraw from the competition.

Fair enough, Dublin released 11 players but its a lot easier to do that when the game is on their doorstep in parnell park. Between the Gooch, Brosnan (club game) Darran O'Sullivan injured and a few college players, we could have had a few more playing alright, but the scheduling of the competition meant there was never going to be a huge representation.

Who is the only footballer ever to win All-Irelands at minor, U-21 & Senior, Win the NFL, The Railway Cup, and the All-Ireland Club Championship?  In other words a full house!

Did Pat Spillane win an All Ireland Club in Thomond?

Yep, in 1978. No minor All Ireland though. He was fairly shocking as a minor actually!

I assumed he was the same age as Jacko, and would have won one in 75. Close but no cigar.

No, minor in 1973 he was. His brother Mick was on the 1975 team with Jacko...Mick must be the most decorated unheralded footballer of all time! 7 AI Senior, 3 U-21, A Minor AI, A Club AI title...

Thats a fair haul by Paddy O'Rourke aswell.

Yes, MFR won a Sigeson with IT Tralee in 1999, having lost a final to them in 1997 I think with UL. He was only a sub on the 1994 minor team, but started all the other winning teams he played on. Some list of medals alright. Given the season thats in it aswell, can I ask if there are any out there who can top Seamus Moynihans 4 Sigerson medals? Jim McGuiness won at least 3, captained 2 different colleges to win it also which is probably unique.

Dunnow what the keeper was doing but would it have made a difference? Here's a fuller match report with interviews - http://tinyurl.com/7p763hr

We'll never know now ! He dramatically reduces his chances of saving the ball if he turns his arse sideways in a half-assed (seems so appropriate) effort to keep the ball out. At least he was not hurt !

Absolutely atrocious goalkeeping.

....and he was wearing tracksuit pants aswell!

BTW..thanks for keeping the video clips coming. Great to see even snippets of Sigerson action I wouldn't see otherwise.
