See the Monaghan panel is named: http://www.monaghangaa.ie/2018/02/monaghan-panel-v-tyrone-2/

Not much change other than R Wylie in for the suspended Kerr. I'm not sure I'd have Dessie starting in this game, giving the potential tempestuous nature it may take.. I thought he was a bit of a liability last weekend in his tackling..

On a different note, where is K Hughes, and Barry McGinn to a lesser extent?

Did McGurk play for Monaghan last Sunday against Kerry? I know he was involved in the first 2 league games.

I was delighted to see him get a chance back home after been playing in Lancashire the last 3 or 4 years, always looked like he was capable of stepping up to this level.

Hi didn't play last weekend, nor was he named in the programme.

Nice article re: http://www.theirishworld.com/paraic-mcguirk-john-mitchels-loss-monaghans-gain/
Access to the article is restricted to subscribers only.

BTW
I haven't read an article  that has used the thread worn cliche "monaghan are punching above their weight"   since last tuesday's Indo

It's ok Martin Breheny will be doing an in-depth statistical piece in Monday's Indo which will correlate between the average weight of our panel and the size of the county , nudie will get a mention, he'll call Conor McManus Ciaran and quote Kavanagh whilst the headline will be Farney punch above their weight under a picture of Barry McGuigan

;D it's definitely a good problem to have - giving out about the media being trite re our over achieving yet small panel..   ;)

We discussed this at the time. It didn't, but the consensus was that a black card was warranted for preventing a definite goal, as Kearns had him beaten. One of those grey areas but definitely a penalty.. I think it would have done Kerry a favour as Murphy had a complete nightmare..

Just listening to RTÉ Radio 1 here - the pundits highly complimentary to Monaghan's continual efforts and not buying into the question posed by Sean O'Rourke re 'the penalty that never was'.

That's not the rule!
It's not soccer!

Well that's me told, then..  :o

Looks to me like the Kerry keeper knocks the ball away first and the Monaghan player falls over him after.  No penalty.
As clear a penalty as I've seen. And if the ref gives it, then surely a black card.
A penalty yes but I didn't think it was a black card, it didn't appear to be a deliberate collision to take Kearns out of the play.

Rory Gallagher ratified with Ryan 'Ricey' McMenamin as assistant

The prodigal son returns, accompanied by the son you couldn't love..

That's a bit mad. Surely there'd be little enough appetite for Rory in Fermanagh? Or does that matter? As the man says, it's not a 'personality contest', it's about results...  ::)

I've only read one mention this week of the 'wide open spaces' of Croke Park and those 'wide open spaces' will supposedly favour Monaghan more than Down.

Even though the playing area in Clones amongst other grounds is equal

The logic is up there with 'ah sure look, if it doesn't kill ya, it'll only make ya stronger'..

Jaysus lads you are all very quiet. Worried about the trimming you'll get from either Tyrone or Dublin in the QF?

I'm delighted with the quietness, to be honest. There was a bit much hyperbole before their last meeting which I think our boys might have believed..

Maybe the Down fans will stay on and cheer Armagh in the next game, that would be a touching gesture of sporting solidarity, despite their own tribulations.

Maybe the Monaghan fans will, should we win, cheer on Kildare to get a crack at Tyrone?  :o

Sure it makes no odds. If Down win then we are not allowed to play Tyrone so Tyrone will play the winners of Armagh and KIldare. But if Monaghan win then Tyrone could play any of the three teams so there would be a draw to see who takes on Dublin and who takes on Tyrone.

Would it not still be the case that Kildare would not be allowed play Dublin, so Tyrone would get Monaghan?

That's my understanding. Any, we're on opposite sides of the draw so the winner can only play Dublin or Tyrone, and not any of the three teams as stated above.

I fancy Monaghan to go all the way. The great farney men of 1956 will be finally emulated!

Ah here, they're not the aristocrats of 1960..  ;)

Monaghan were complacent the first day, both tactically and individually. I can't see them being like that again. McKernan, O'Hanlon, Maginn & Harrison got far too much time and space on the ball, this will be tightened up. Drew Wylie got little protection from the sweeper (normally Kieran Duffy), because the sweeper was lined out along with a midfielder in the half forward line, with the intention of having a greater scoring threat. Wylie will relish the opportunity to right the wrongs of the last day. Of course Down fully deserved their win, but I can't see Monaghan making the same mistakes twice. If they do, there'll a locka jerseys and car flags going cheap..  ;)

Mickey Harte requests all the players to partake in saying the rosary before a game, the Tyrone Catholic Team?
Ronan McNamee
It (the rosary) can't do you any harm. I can't imagine it's going to cause anybody any upset. Whether we do it with Tyrone or not, I go to Mass every Sunday anyway. There is no reason why everybody can't go to Mass the odd time."
How about a reason being that a person is not a catholic?
What if a player is not of the catholic church and does not partake in the catholic rituals?
That's a bizarre backwoods religious culture in Tyrone.

Be almost like a protestant going to a catholic wedding - unheard of.... what would they do?  ::)

They spoil the queuing for communion as the people row behind are wondering why they haven't got up yet.. then the second row behind start going up the chapel, then the first row behind smarten up and they go.. then you have to watch harder for your seat on the way back down.

Brilliant..  ;D
