Down / Re: Down Championship Predictions Competition

Looking back at those who predicted all 8 adlut championships, I don't think there's anyone who can get all 8 right. Kilcoo knocked out a couple in the football, Liatroim, Ballycran & Ballela's defeats in the hurling knocked most of the rest.

I expect Limerick to hold their own in the first half but they'll be working harder than Kilkenny for the scores. In the second half it will just drift away from them as the Cats get 2 score for every one of they get. I hate to say it but the Cats should win by 10-12 points. Limerick will need to mind their discipline. They can't afford to go a man down under any circumstances.
There's no such thing as a sure thing in hurling but this is as close as it gets.

Discusting first post! I too was in Darragh Cross and we must have been watching different games.  The Hogg played centre back and had an excellent game. The fact that Ballela scored one point playing with a strong breeze in the second half says it all.

IHC Semi Final
Ballycran 1-11 3-03 Portaferry
Very poor conditions in Ballygalget this evening. Good win for the Crans. Now for Ballygalget in the final.

PS - Forgot to say I predict a win for Liatroim tonight and Ballycran tomorrow in IHC. Ballycran and Ballela to win on Sunday in the Junior Championship. There should be some good tight matches.

Apparently it was passed at congress last year - youth players can only play one level above. So u12 player can play u14 but not u16. u16s can play minor but not adult.
The Galgets have been playing u16s in the 3rds all year and claimed they never heard of the rule. Very few seem to be aware of it outside Portaferry who reported Ballygalget after the JHC match (which Portaferry won).
I think there were 4 young fellas involved who have all now been suspended and will miss u16 and minor matches. A sad affair which won't help relations between Ports & Galgets.

Already got a couple. I hope if my name comes out of the hat, it doesn't go straight back in again!  ;)

Saturday 4th August   6.30pm   Port An Pheire (Portaferry)   v   Baile Mhic Uileagoid (Ballygalget)   Ballycran   D Caughey
Sunday 5th August   2pm   Caislean an Mhuillin (Castlewellan)   v   Bredach (Bredagh)   Kilclief   C Coulter
Sunday 5th August   2pm   Baile Crann (Ballycran)   v   Rinn Mhic Giolla Rua (Warrenpoint)   Downpatrick   N Morgan
Tuesday 7th August   7.30pm   Cluain Daimh (Clonduff)   v   Baile Aileach (Ballela)   Liatroim   K McGuinness

Junior Hurling this weekend.
Castlewellan have prepared well after a poor start to the league and I think they'll take Bredagh by 3 points. Bredagh play like individuals whereas Castlewellan at full strenght are a team. Div 1 experience is priceless at this level.

Ballycran to beat the Point by 10. Warrenpoint have done great work at underage and their time will come. But not this year.

Ballela are considedered by all to be favorites but I think they will struggle to field a strong team. McCambridge & Murphy are away on holidays because they were told the match was fixed for last night. They are missing others too. Clonduff played very well earlier in the leage and I predict an upset - Clonduff to win.

Portaferry will beat Ballygalget on Saturday in Ballycran but neither will win the championship. Potaferry's IHC team haven't played yet and Growler picked a strong team for Ballygalget. I have to go for the Ports in this game but weather on not they can win the championship I don't know.

It wouldn't surprise me!

Dublin Meath the first day is the only good football match I've seen this year. Cork/Waterford (twice), Limerick/Tipp (trice), Limerick/Waterford, Cork/Tipp have all been good hurling matches.

I agree with a lot of what you said wobbler but we'll never agree on your attitude to hurling. I'll focus on what we agree about rather than potential disagreements. The only way forward is to start with improving coaching at youth level.
For years we in the Ards could rely on every kid in the district taking up a hurl and training hard to try to make the senior teams. Unfortuantly that's not the case any more and hurling in the Ards is going backwards. All the distractions you mention are available on the Ards as well.
Earlier this year the 3 Ards clubs took the initative to try and sort things out. We got support from Bredagh, Newry & Ballela and had a few rows with the county board. We invited Frankie Quinn from the Ulster council to help and on the development squad side things are better than they were but still not nearly good enough. Hopefully they have learned from some of the mistakes this year and it will be better run next year. It is a step in the right direction.
My own club has run coaching days with top coaches from the south. But we're all in the business of improving Down hurling so we invited coaches from all the other clubs to attend. Co-operating over coaching is essential. We all have to work together and put our rivalries aside for the good of the GAA.

A good article alright but why was it on the front page? Are you sure you didn't have the paper back to front?
