GAA Discussion / Re: Armagh v Kildare 29.07.2017
July 18, 2017, 12:22:49 AM
Kildare have lost to Louth at 1/6, Wicklow at 1/8 and Westmeath at 2/7 just to name a few in recent memory. Wouldn't read too much into a slight nod from the odds compilers. Feely and Doyle out swings this in Armagh favour. Armagh were comfortable enough in Thurles despite the poor call on goal in first half and Quinlivan goal at crucial time didn't stop them either. 50/50 game.

Very acceptable result and performance. Anyone who expected us to beat this Dublin team, first time out, doesn't know much about football. The 2 times we beat Dublin in 98 and 00, the Dubs were at their weakest in memory....some really poor players on those teams. Id say about 3 would make the current setup. Looking forward to the next day...2 big losses in Feely and Doyle possibly but Conway covers centre back. Fionn Dowling may get in to take the frees.

GAA Discussion / Re: The Sunday Game

The comparison was made between a weekly programme on domestic soccer and one on GAA. Soccer Republic is better despite a much lower viewership and match attendances. And don't mention the National League whatever you do. Sure we'll catch that on the wireless, theres a Womens 6Nations game on RTE2 instead.
At the weekend they coupled up Tommy Carr and German Canning again for f**k sake. Ger clearly lost any interest in Gaelic Football when Larry Tompkins last laced up his boots. Tommy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. And that's being kind to him.

If Soccer Republic can show decent highlights from every League of Ireland match on a Monday night, why cant The Sunday Game or RTE do similar? The crowds at intercounty matches dwarf those of LOI soccer yet we have to put up with a shite production. 60 second highlights , mickey mouse interviews with managers that are often cutoff mid sentence and frequently highlights edited missing some of the key scores or incidents in games. Some of the footage looks like it's been taken with a water damaged camera phone. You can give out all you like about Sky but at least the product is high quality.

His Webcast on Wednesday is also very good. Bounces well off likes of Ronan O Gara, Andy Reid and others from non Gaa backgrounds. Not sure why he left Off The Ball as he was becoming the main man there. But he has done well with the online stuff since. Off the Ball becoming increasingly middle of the road since he left.

I don't think anyone expects last year's winners and this years clear favourites to be a soft touch.

Lengthy ban coming for a GAA manager mooted on radio earlier. Any ideas?

Was right in front of that far sideline . Was a shoulder by Slattery with momentum on the Clare back. Neither could get out of the way and both moving at pace, nowhere to go. A genuinely perfect shoulder from both. To be fair to ref he played on and was consulted by linesman who incorrectly called it as body check. Clare mentor remonstrating beside him may have influenced linesman.Had no impact on result. Slattery first start , he'd have been subbed in next few mins anyway. Re Rory Feely he's with Pats for next couple of years so wouldn't expect to see him play for lilywhites anytime soon. Possibly tog out with Athy like his brother did when he has a free weekend.

Badou Jack boxed in the Athy GAA club about 7/8 years ago when he was Swedish. Didn't look like a future World Champion that nite :)

GAA Discussion / Re: New Jerseys?

That's true, a few counties tried other brands and were not happy with the quality or quantity of the gear received and went back to ONs. Re the designs, they are limited to what each county board allows. CBs invariably want to stick to their traditional and as such ONs are limited in what they can do.
