Looks like the Westmeath Season is in Turmoil...

Hackett came out During the week to confirm what many of us have been thinking - he revealed that he is "way behind" in his preparations for the new season due to the logistical difficulties caused by the recent severe flooding in the Shannon region.

I'm lost as to what this statement means. I know a few of the county players who are doing gym work, but nothing ese. What was he planning on doing in late November that the flooding has had such an effect?

Maybe that Rowing lad can't get Dessie Dolan out canoeing because it's too fast a current? Or Michael Carruth can't get punch bags filled as all the sand is being used to keep Golden Island Shopping Centre dry?

Offaly are in a far worse state. There isn't a dry sod in the county to burn for the winter. Expect this to feature heavily in post-Meath inquest.

When it comes to the Olympics, however, McIlroy has already said he intends to compete for Great Britain if he qualifies.

No he has not - All he has done is made one 20 sec comment on it and has not talked about it in public since. The comment was made to rib Ian Poulter up.

Anyhow Rory made this comment on his twitter page in last few hours.

Much like rugby, golf falls under the whole island of ireland, therefore if you are from ulster you play for Ireland.

you spoke to who? mcllory? he made it quite clear in a number of articles that i read that he would play for britian in the olympics. thats his choice. mcdowel on the other hand made it quite clear he would play for ireland or britian

I am surprised there has been many articles on it. He made one 20 second comment in a Press conference in September and was told by his manager the next day - Never to talk on it again.

Rory made a right dogs ear of his comments on the Olympics - Which happened 2 months ago.

He was asked would he like the opportunity to play alongside his mates Poulter & Casey in a GB olympic team to which he said he would. A journalist then turned it into a story where he turned his back on representing Ireland.

Rory is a GUI afflicated player - who has benefited from coming through the Irish Amateur status. He is very much non-political and should have seen this question coming. Graeme McDowell was asked a similar question to which he replied that he would love to be part of the London Olympics in 2012.

I've no idea who Rory McIroy will represent if asked, but I'd like to think he will play for Ireland alongside Harrington given a choice. I reckon he'd get more of a kick competiting against Poulter & Casey and playing alongside Harrington & GMac. This weekend he is playing for Ireland btw.

Lets rank them in divisions. Anything with old news on it cannot be division 1.

A county with a good website and e-communication structure surely shows progressing with the times and a modern approach to the way they go about their business. I know with my own club we send out emails on a weekly basic in relation to training, while we have an intra-net for talking to one another.

I bring this up as I raised it with my own County Board and PRO, who does a good job in relation to print media, about 4 years ago and even offered to contribute financially, yet nothing has been done about it.

3 years on nearly from when I first posted this thread and Westmeath GAA still have no website for the County. I did rank the website above with a 1 for effort. I wish to withdraw that 1 point now as they have gone backwards

Fair play to Garrycastle, great win when they were written off by most. All the best to them in the final.

God - I wouldn't have said that. Alot of the press this morning tipped Garrycastle.

Fair play to them. This might be what is needed to lift Westmeath Football again after a poor 2009 year for the county footballers.

Looks like there could be a few obstacles in the way alright. Its was never going to be an easy race.

I for one can't wait for its victory speech if Sea the Stars win.
