Armagh / Re: Armagh Club football & hurling

It has to be said that Armagh club football is awful and other than Cross the rest wouldn't make a good intermediate team in another county.

never mind the physical fitness . . . . what about kildares mental fitness.

I gather Enda McNulty is helping his buddys McGeeney & O Rourke with his mental training, very much behind the scenes

That is shameless self promotion Enda. :D :D

Let's get a handle on this. A county which has won nothing in 57 years was deprived of glory which many GAA people in their county never lived to see and the rest probably thought they would never see. They were 10 seconds away from this moment of unbridled joy to be denied it by an incompetent referee. My surprise is that only a few individuals out of 20 thousand found it impossible to control their emotions in those split seconds. I have no doubt that had it been anyother county in the same situation the same would have happened only probably a lot worse. I am not condoning it by any stretch of the imagination.
In the circumstances, the problems were initiated by an incompetent official and the total lack of security by one of the richest sporting organisations in the world.

By the way there were only two things that Meath could have done in the aftermath.
1. Award Louth the Leinster title and hand over trhe Cup.
2. Keep the title and the cup.

They did the second which every other county in the country would have done.

I don't think it was even a try. He didn't get it down.

It's just something that I have been thinking about recently. I hear people saying, such an a person is a good trainer or such an a person is a good coach but what I witness is that everyone does the same the same thing. A few drills with some variations and a lot of cones. Could someone tell me how one stands out from trhe other?

Heaney is developing into the country's top GAA journalist.

Man Marker, I'm only talking on referee's expenses not their full time job and what I earn has no relevance  whatsoever. I suppose in comparison to what some managers earn, it is only a pittance.

I thought it was a brilliant article from a brilliant journalist who is noit afraid to say it as he sees it. It is about time someone spoke out about this protected species whose only concern is  "me, me, me" and how I can take all the attention away from the players and heap it on him.
Remember, they are very well paid for their work and as for club referees, it is a verey lucrative sideline in these recessionary times, when you think thgat between adult and underage they could be refereeing four games per week without even taking the very well paid colleges into consideration.

I have been reliably informed by a Derry man....

Edited by Mod3 - Unsubstantiatated rumours and gossip like that is not permitted here. Please be aware that those close to the people allegedly involved , or the people themselves, may well be looking in here.

Thanks

What do you mean unsubstantiated?  It is a fact! thirty two Derry players saw it. The majority of the the Derry backroom staff saw it. Eoin Bradley has four stitches below his eye. It is the talk of Derry.
What substantiation do you require?

I smell a ban coming your way WP.

Why? How come! This is a discussion board. I can stand over everything I have said here. When you see some of the rumours and gossips and lies on here where no repercussions are taken, why should I be banned?

Didn't this Newry crowd get up to all sorts in the semi as well? It's impossible to know for sure how bad things were without being there, unsurprisingly there are a few Down lads here trying to play things down. But that's two games in a row where this school's been dragged through the mud, no smoke without fire and all that...it should probably at least be investigated by the GAA to see if there is an issue with the school. I don't buy in to any of this northern bias craic, anytime I've been up there it's been great and there's been no ill feeling at all, quite the opposite in fact.

Are you serious or just a complete amadon.  St Colman's was the top academic school in NI last year.  It has the most McCrory cup wins and a history steeped in discipline and high standards.  It all schools in Ireland had as high standards the country wouldn't be in the state that it's in!  I went to St Colmans and ejoyed some of the greatest under age football ever seen with players like James McCartan, Jarlath Burns and then Marsden and McGrane coming through our ranks in those years.  I travelled the length and breadth of the country to support the teams from Corn na Og to McCrory and when I was in 6th and 7th year did we go in search of a pint before the match?  Of course we did!  We were fecking 16/17 and had a weekend off!!  If you knew anything about St Colmans it has a history of high class Down AND Armagh fellas who have come through the doors and gone on to be leaders in the community and on the field of play.  Educate yourself before you post crap like this.  I'm sure Fr Brown could organise for a field visit so you can witness what a real school looks like!
I am also an Armagh past pupil. I( was disappointed with the supporters on Saturday.
By the Way, pity you didn't learn to spell MacRory when you were at our great school.

As a past pupil of Violet Hill, I must say that I was very proud of the performance of our team yesterday as they upheld the proud traditions of my Alma Mater. However, I must say say that I was very embarrassed and quite ashamed of the behaviour of a sizeable sector of our support. All I can say is trhat it certainly wouldn't have been tolerated by the college authorities in my day.

GAA Discussion / The New Rules Re Club Football
April 09, 2010, 04:22:10 PM
When the "New Rules" ie. Fist Pass, Square Ball and Mark are passed at the weekend, it will not give club players and club refereees much time to familiarise themselves with them especially in county where the club championship will be commencing in the next few weeks.
Is this fair!

Niall McKeever, while being excellent in a number of games last year, was found wanting in the mobility stakes in the Tyrone game and to me he was the one should have been marking John.

Our midfield should be significantly more mobile this year so hopefully that won't be as big a problem. Or we could always just foul him at the half way line and rotate the players that foul him so we get no sendings off...

Antrim teams and in particular your present county champions are very well versed in that practice.
