Two fine players indeed. John played into the mid eighties with Tullylish. Wee Joe had a brain hemorrhage in 1981 when he'd still have been mid to late twenties and was playing great stuff. Never played again obviously and not sure he ever worked again either.

So thats what happened to him. One of the Down players went over to him after the 91 final and gave him his jersey, Joe was in a wheelchair. I cant remember which player it was, but I remember hearing about it in the days after the game.

Is it just me or is series 2 a bit of a let down after series 1? The first seres was excellent, some of the best TV I have ever watched.

These are the only statistics that matter, there is no prize for team of the decade. In fact until this decade some teams had never won an All Ireland. To listen to the supporters of these teams you would think they invented the game.

Kerry 36
Dublin 22
Galway 9
Meath 7
Cork 6
Down 5
Cavan 5
Wexford 5
Kildare 4
Tipperary 4
Tyrone 3
Mayo 3
Offaly 3
Louth 3
Limerick 2
Roscommon 2
Derry 1
Donegal 1
Armagh 1

Down got great support from us in 77 and anyone who says otherwise either wasnt there or they are liars.

77 was my first All Ireland final. There were a considerable amount of Armagh fans cheering for Meath. To even things up we did cheer for the Dubs.

Shorty was more than good enough for the 91/94 team he just wasnt committed and Pete wasnt having it. He was also a bit too fond of the drink around that time as well.

Umpire your team selections seem pretty much spot on. Obviously you have the benefit of being more experienced than some of us.  ;)

Can you or anyone else tell me what ever happened to a player named Joe Byrne, from the late 70s / early 80s?

Well on friday there was a days rain and it couldnt host the league final. Very durable that.

I think fridays game was cancelled to give the pitch a chance of being ready for todays games. There would be very few playabe pitches in the county today.

Just noticed Eddie Jordan isn't wearing one on the BBC. Don't know what the score is there.

Common sense on EJs behalf.
I have nothing against people wearing poppies, but the BBC seem to force it upon people. EJ is one of the very few people you will see on the beeb without a poppy. Rememberance day is getting as bad as Christmas, we get reminded of it earlier every year.

What we have had over night is slightly more than a drop of rain. This is more like a monsoon. Cancelling the game is the right decision.
The pitch is Newry was always known as The Marshes, it didn't get that name for nothing.

I would expect the likes of whelan to be very upset, the same goes for every die hard liverpool fan. benitez has to go or Liverpool are fecked, strike that, they are fecked anyway.

Liverpool cannot afford (financially) to sack Rafa.
I have never been a fan of Benitez, but I don't think the blame rests entirely with him. The Yanks have to go, but who is going to buy the club at the minute? The Arabs baulked at the £200m price tag a few years ago so they are not going to pay double that now.
The fans have to do something, having a march before a big game is useless, they need to take things further.

Sorry ziggy I put you in there by mistake. Was reading some one of your posts just before I posted that. Post edited now.
