GAA Discussion / Re: The second best football team?

Emotions and county loyalities aside it's between Dublin who have narrowly lost out in the last 2 semis and Cork who have reached the same stage in each of the last 3 years.
I think Dublin edge it as they have beaten or run close every team they have played in the championship over the last 3 years.

Anyone who admits to and then takes action to combat their addiction deserves nothing but credit.

Hopefully some of the media attention that will undoubtably surround the launch of his book will serve to highlight the very real problems that compulsive gambling and the resulting behaviours causes for thousands of individuals and their families in this country.

Fair play to you Oisin, one day at a time.

Heard a report on radio ulster this morning about a vandalism attack on a hotel in Portaferry called the Narrows, all the ground floor windows were broken overnight.

When discussing events with the owner the interview asked "was it likely that hurley sticks were used in the attack to break the windows".

The owner had more sense and said she had no such info, but in listening to the interview I wasn't even suprised when the interviewer suggested hurleys were used, it was just lazy word association journalism... Portaferry + Vandalism = hurley sticks

Apols, the spreads site seems to be back to normal again

Got the reminder email last night that the spread is now up for the final but when I go onto the spreads website the 2007 comps seem to have disappeared. I think a similar thing happened towards the end of the National League comps.

Anyone got any info?

Just watched the ad, goldilocks definately lifted the ball straight off the ground!

Definately wouldn't mind a wee slap at Derry at some stage this season.
Never a good situation when they percieve themselves to have he upper-hand. ie. when they have won the last championship encounter.

At this stage would be happy to avoid Cork and Donegal.

On Cork's performances so far they would have very realistic aspirations of lifting Sam and now that Donegal have gone through a successsful rehabilitation and have their full squad returning they would not be beat as easy as the last day and would probably relish the chance to get revenge on us.

I know that if we aspire to win the thing then we shouldn't really care who we meet and when,  but the performance against Monaghan highlighted several areas that require work and improvement (as previously covered by many posters), so to buy that time for the work to be done I would prefer to avoid the 2 above teams

What small print, they are both provincial winners so can't meet in the quarters.
The semis are seeded Ulster/Connaught and Leinster/Munster.
What small print have I missed?

Big 2 what?

Never mind they still can't meet until the final
#72
Lads settle down, Dublin and Sligo can only meet in the Final this year and there's a right bit of football to be played before then

I've a horrible feeeling that time will prove that Tyrone have already lost to injury the player they can't afford to lose - Brian McGuigan

The quarter-finals involving the Connaught and Ulster Champions sit in the Master Fixtures list as Saturday 4th August other 2 games down for Sat 11th Aug, but the Dubs will prob be given a date all of their own.

Throughly enjoyable game yesterday, agree with a lot of posters that Monaghan lost the game at the start (first 10 mins) when they seemed intent on spoiling Tyrone's game rather than focusing on their own strengths. After that early spell when Tyrone scored 1-03 Monaghan outscored Tyrone for the remainder of the game (approx an hour) by 4 pts. Good to see McCullough have a good game in relation to score taking again, this will continue to help with the confidence.

Couldn't understand why Joe McMahon wasn't dropped back on Corey in the Second half, Gourley was being roughed up and came out 2nd best for most of this half, McMahon have proven before to be probably our best current option when faced with that type of tactic/opponent. Also in the latter stages of the game Tyrone continued to go man for man on the full-back line (mostly 2 against 2) even though they were losing out in the individual battles, they were slow to bring back a spare man as cover in the end Justin Mc came back and Gormley was spare.

Thought that Gormley seemed to be carrying an injury, limped slightly throughout the second half and looked like a man with a lower back/hip problem.

All in all thought we were a wee bit fortunate to win on the day, we look to have more in us but maybe that's just wishful thinking.
