General discussion / Re: The Official Golf Thread

Not 100% sure....in the majors everyone who plays gets something I think, but in ordinary tour events I think you have to make the cut to get anything.

It's a big step up to  the paid ranks....he will need a lot of patience ........Justin Rose missed his first 22 cuts, best of luck to him.

I agree with most of what you say Lynchboy with one major exception. There are no elections in most of these countries. Take Saudi for example. Run by a monarchy, a viscous thug government. Yet they are propped up by the west and held up by the west as some sort of friendly government. We don't mind who we do business with aslong as they do business. The fact that the west props up these nasty leaders (The Shah in Iran, Sadam etc etc) means it is very easy for fundamentalist to get the middle ground to swing around to their way of thinking - i.e. hate everything western. The shah was run out of Iran by a popular rising that was manipulated by some very extreme elements that then took control. If the west is serious with peace they need to engage with these governments and try and encourage democracy. They need to stop blindly supporting Israel. The way we are going at present with our tough talk and hard man stance means this will only get worse. We all know force cannot bring down guerilla groups - or at least we should know.

Just curious as to how the west are propping up Saudi.

Depends on which muslim country you went to, Turkey or UAE no probs Saudi or Iran might be different.
uae and saudi are not particularly tolerant (to say the least)
recall last sept when over in dubai that a 'visitor'(non muslim) from lebanon was jailed for drinking a bottle of fruit juice in 'public' (at a petrol service station - where they had just bought the drink) during ramadan.
BUT 5/6 years ago in dubai this was not 'against the law' - its only recently been brought in (to appease the fundamentalists so I was told)!

turkey is heading the fundamentalist way with the new regieme they voted in the other year

Thanks for that Lynchboy,  :o, There i was thinking, surely you can drink normal drinks outside in ramadan rather then die of dhydration. Im fecked.

First time out of Ireland Sligonian? ;) UAE is the most tolerant of the GCC countries, basically because the expats outnumber the Nationals by about 5 to 1. Saudi is the most strict yet there are many expats here making an absolute fortune. Eating and drinking in public (and in front of Muslims inside) is not allowed during ramadan, but you can eat and drink in your own home/office without any problems. Qatar will grow like Dubai in the next few years, good place to be at the moment.

In what way?

Well I assume his soldiers in Afghanistan aren't doing much to learn the language and integrate themselves into Afgan society.

Bit of a difference in chosing to emigrate as opposed to being sent to a country.

Heard Charlie not likely to play again...too high a risk....serious damage done requiring more than a plate inserted.
Terrible news for the lad. Big blow to Harps and Armagh.

absolute 100% rubbish, whoever posted this should be ashamed of themselves.

Glad to be hanging my head in shame......I'll be delighted as anyone to see him back in Armagh and especially Harps colours.

Hope not. REad some of the stuff and it is worrying indeed  :-\
Sincerely hope it's not true, would be a terrible tragedy.
That said Charlie's health is obviously far more important than football.

ABSOLUTE 100% RUBBISH, FINISH THIS RUMOUR NOW, WHOEVER POSTED THIS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.

If bennydorano is correct, then I'm hanging my head in shame......I don't have a problem admitting I'm wrong.....unlike some of the gods on here.

This year or for ever more amen?

Someone posting that that is not true Diet.

Hopefully not anyway, it would take a lot more to stop a man like Charlie.

Hope you are right but I'm only relaying what I've been told, I'd like nothing more than to see Charlie back in both Armagh and Harps colours.

Apparently he requires surgery to insert a plate and a hook....I'm not 100% sure of the technical term....meaning that contact sport is over for him.....it's tragic for him, Armagh football, and especially Harps.......I hope he gets over this quickly and feel that the guy is a natural at most sports....so maybe he'll pursue the golf, or some other non contact sport.

I wish him well......an absolute gent!

As you say Rufus, a win's a win and good to see them grind out the result.

Best wishes to Charlie for a speedy recovery.
