It will of course. Martin McHugh is canny enough to know that no malice was meant by Ross' comments. And he will also recognise that he forced Ross into making a stand.  A good manager needs to keep his team positive and focused with moral high.  His job is made harder when the media bandwagon publish the opposite sermon to that which he preaches to his team.  (the players read papers, and watch TV too you know!) .  So he had to nip negativity in the bud before it spread like wildfire through the land.  Congratulations to Ross on doing just that.  And I am sure, upon reflection, Martin will realise that too.   8)

Thanks for clarifying that Western aka Ross  ;D ;D

Orangeman, Carr is using the comments shrewdly to accelerate Down's progress and drive them on to greater things. He doesn't want his team to be caught in the headlights on Saturday. The only fear is that with all the recent matches Carr's team will run out of petrol.

Have to agree, O Hara is a tube and is obsession with Kevin McGourty makes me sick. Matt Fitzpatrick is a poor read too, dull boring reports where he tries to mention every single player and very little information about the actual game.

Re; Down Vs UUJ, A solid enough performance by Down, and a marked improvement on anything we they have produced in this last couple of years. Still too many silly mistakes though especially from Danny Hughes and Kevin McGuigan, both of whom had actually quite good games. As has been stated by a few posters earlier, John Clarke was excellent when he came on and his willingness to take responsibility and put the wall over the bar from distance is something that has been badly missing from Down teams for a while.

Good to see Liam Doyle back into CHB, a strong platform for buildings attacks, always available to take a pass and always seems to have plenty of time on the ball. Gary McArdle also looks to have plenty of cut about him, and got stronger as the game went on last night.

I think Michael Walsh is the best CHF we have, but we need him fully fit.

Aidan, when are we going to see Micky Walsh at his best?? He has the ability and the physical attributes but never seems to fully deliver. Is it a confidence thing or do we just over rate him?

Lads you are all reading a lot into a Dr. McKenna cup game on a wet Wednesday in Omagh in early January. Hold fire at least until the national league when the team has a couple of games under their belt.

Commentators are getting worse all the time. They'd sicken your happiness listening to the dribble coming from them, especially that Ger Canning ****, f**k he's worse than listening to them hoors on the soccer channel.

Fergal Doherty was immense for Derry again on Saturday. His ability to win ball with men hanging off him is unreal. Don't think he gets enough credit by the media, certainly not enough from that pair of stupid ball licking c***ts that were comentating on saturady.

Disgust as abuser is spared prison

By Diana Rusk

The father of a boy who was sexually abused by his male babysitter has spoken out about the family's ordeal.

Ciaran Keegan (22), of Abbey Park, Tynan in Co Armagh, walked free from court on Tuesday after admitting charges of indecent assault and gross indecency dating back seven years.

He was given a two-year probation order at Armagh Magistrates Court and put on the sex offenders' register for five years.

His young victim cannot be named. The boy's father last night described the moment his son told him he had been abused.

"Me and my wife were going away and we thought we might get Keegan to babysit our daughter," he said.

"For my son, that was the turning point. He felt he had to say something. That was the reason he came and told us."

The child had kept his suffering secret for years.

He was 10 years old when Keegan, then 15, began abusing him.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I think this was happening. At the time of the abuse, my son had been going though a difficult time and we were happy he had someone befriending him,'' his father said.

"My children stayed in his house three times. When something like this happens, you question yourself. You'd think you would have a sixth sense about it all."

Keegan has now been banned from being alone with anyone under 17 years of age, communicating in any way with anyone under that age and participating in any form of sporting activity.

The boy's father said he was disappointed the case wasn't before a Crown Court, in which a judge has higher powers of sentencing.

"It is the best thing he could have got under the circumstances. I am delighted with what he got but I know that Maghaberry is the only place for him,'' he said.

"Listening to all the details in court was very difficult – my wife and I had to walk out at one stage because we couldn't go through hearing what he had done to our child."

He said the abuse has left his now 17-year-old son unable to trust people.

"He was taken advantage of by someone he thought was his friend. My son has suffered a lot through this.

"We're a very educated, sophisticated family and open minded and liberal in our thinking but I am disgusted at him. His only goal is

self-preservation.

"Even though he did admit guilt, initially he denied it and said my child was sick in the head. I knew my son was telling the truth."
