At least we can be spared watching some unknown turning into a superstar at the world cup and wondering if he could end up at Liverpool.

I'll never forget watching the opening game at Korea/Japan 2002, Senegal against France with Diouf and Daio looking like they were world beaters (actually that day they where) and praising Ged for having signed them before the tournement, a real coup and the missing piece's now in place  :-[  :-[

I honestly have no idea who will be coming in. Talk of the Wilson chap coming from Wilson, the money for San Jose will be used for his transfer and then there is the Janovic (sp?) coming on a free from Standard Liege.

We'll not be shopping in Brown Thomas for sure, more likely the Euro shop or pennys!

If a few sales where made and I'm talking Babel, Kuyt, Benny, etc where you could get 5-8m each, you aren't going to be replacing them with someone in the 20m bracket so the likes of Silva, Martinez, Cahill, Young, Milner etc will all be pipe dreams, even Joe Coles wages and signing-on fee may be outside our net.

The players been linked aren't inspiring - Zeigler (spurs reject), Bentley, Raul, etc.

Personally I'd take a punt on Kevin Doyle for starters.

On Saturday night in Newcastle, watching grown men in shorts run after a ball will be the furthest thing from your mind, as it will on a glorious sunny sunday when said men how have sticks and helmets.

I find Zaps attempts to defend the honour of the IRA father sad.

Funny - I remember him refusing to talk about it not so long ago.

To be fair you make a good point on the Red Knights bid. I read that myself and was not happy to read it. One reason it won't be discussed on the United thread is that most Irish soccer fans, including a huge number of United fans, are clueless. Some of them still expect a big splash out of cash this summer God love them (Liverpool fans too!). Another is that its hard to know what to believe as both sides are obviously leaking stories.

I see ye are signing the winner of Vietnams got soccerball talent. Good luck with that.  ;)

He wouldn't talk about it cause the season was still on and as he said many times, he signed a 5 year contract a year ago and was tied to it. Papers, always, choose what bits to print and I'm surprised you bow to that type of reporting.

To be honest, I know few Liverpool fans expecting many signings this summer. Many have turned into mini-accountants and are trying to draw up lists of sales and buys with the proceeds. A few dreamers about alright. Even free transfers are ruled out cause the wages would be too much ie Joe Cole.

You'll be laughing when we line up a 16 year wonderkid on the opening day and he smashes a quickfire hatrick before dedicating the goals to Louis and Simon.  ;D

Maybe's Micks way is the right way  ???

In other counties that would have same talent or numbers available like Kildare or Laois, they have spent huge sums and put in loads of resources into their senior team for little reward. They'd no doubt tried all the fancy dan tricks - overseas camps, all sorts of modern training methods, video analysis, head doctors etc etc etc.

But at the end of the day you can't make a purse out of a sows ear. Maybe Mick has identified this and at that stage maybe players have fully developed regarding there skill levels and the only thing you can do is get them super fit (micks way abviously works in that regard), give them plenty of ball and tell them they are great. You can't look past his results in fairness.

Maybe its all these other modern day managers and coaches who are the bluffers and are making a cod out of everyobe else and the GAA.

Very quiet round here and on the day when the manager confirms the great news that his future is with Liverpool. Tut, tut.

Nothing has changed, he's been saying that this weeks.

Silly season continues and good to see the Mancs are paying such close attention to the going on's at Anfield.  ;)

I also noted yesterday that there was speculation that the Red Knights have hit a wall and are unable to agree on certain major issues. Must check the United thread to see the 16 pages discussing this important development.

They are bluffing. Didn't you hear - Ireland have dealt with the problem and are going to be ok!

I know they are bluffing but if Parkinson is right about Micko, they're only mickey mouse in comparison.

Micko "a bluffer", claims Parkinson

Wicklow manager Mick O'Dwyer
19 May 2010

Colm Parkinson has described his former Laois manager Mick O'Dwyer as "a bluffer".

The Portlaoise native, who is now playing his club football in Dublin with Parnells, also claimed O'Dwyer is "an awful man manager", despite him being widely recognised as the most successful manager in the GAA and having guided Laois to their first Leinster title in 57 years in 2003 when Parkinson was a key figure.

Speaking in a radio interview before the Waterville maestro steered Wicklow to victory over Carlow in last Sunday's Leinster SFC opener, Parkinson said: "Everyone will think Micko will have a trick up a sleeve, but I can tell you now that Micko will have nothing up his sleeve. He's an absolute bluffer.

"He's an awful man manager. He has favourites. He could pass by subs and not even know them. He'd have three or four favourites and that's it."

Parkinson did acknowledge, however, that O'Dwyer ensured all the best players were playing with the county. "Even in Laois now you could pick 15 players who are as good if not better than the Laois players playing in the championship, who aren't playing. If Micko was over Laois, everyone would be playing."

But Parkinson went on to say that while O'Dwyer instils his team with confidence, there isn't anything more involved. "The teams you're playing know you've Micko as your manager and think that he's going to have something special. But he doesn't give you anything. He's a bluffer, I'm telling you now."

;D  ;D

If only our Gov could bluff like Micko, we'd be living like the arabs now  ;D

This throwing is just nonsense and a cover by them. They want to make it harder for players to play a short running game and make a basic skill for them, harder to play with. Short term solution was to introduce this rule - untrialed and at short notice.

In a year or so, players will have fully adapted to it and the same problem they are trying to stamp out will still exist ie short running game.

"Throwing" my arse  ;D

Very worried about woods lads, very little to suggest he'll be starting for Monaghan.

Have a stab at your team.
Duffy
Dessie -JP- McArdle
McQuaid-Hughes-McAdam
Clerkin Lennon
Finaly - Gollogy - Malone
McManus- Corey-Freeman

Lennon or JP mightn't make it, if not Jap to midfield with possibly Woods or Kieran Hughes coming in. Walsh in for JP with Hughes going FB and McAdam in centre, walsh WHB.

I'd have Walshe ahead of McAdam. Any word of Greenan?

Think McAdam a bit more physical for the likes of Macken who could be played there. Very impressed with McAdam when he played against us this year, mind you he wasn't against much!

I doubt Greenan will make it, no football under his belt and would be a big risk for a championship debut without haven't kicked a ball in months, training no susbstitute for the real thing.
