Antrim / Re: Antrim Football Thread
February 03, 2022, 10:09:31 PM
This thread is turning into hard work for a Mod.

Posters seem to be aware of each other's identity and make seemingly crass comments toward each other.  Sometimes it looks like banter, but sometimes it hits a harder blow.

So I'll ask ALL posters to cop on a small bit.  Leave the personal stuff off the board.

Otherwise bans will be forthcoming.

I was thinking this is actually a pretty good tactic.

He went for 13 draws in Rd1, and one of the 3 games he didn't go for the draw ended up being a draw!

4 draws in Rd 1 = 12 points, which would be level in second place, just 2 behind the leader.

Interesting tactic alright...

27 of 56 have their Rd 2 selections in already...let's be having the rest before Friday midnight!

Round 1 entries now closed...Oraisteach is lucky to be allowed in past the midnight deadline, but in the spirit of the board, his entry is included.

Thanks to all 55 entrants, which is quite a good number.  The challenge is to stick to it for all 7 rounds.

A few observations on the selections:

1.  All 55 pick Cavan to win.

2.  Other teams in the 50+ club are: Tipperary (54), Kerry and Westmeath (53), Carlow (52) and Derry (50).

3.  Closest is 3 apart...Fermanagh 25, Antrim 22 with 8 voting for the draw.  Next closest is Monaghan 25, Tyrone 21 and 9 draws.

4.  Most popular draw pick is Wexford/Sligo with 12.

Well done to the 0 who picked London !!

3 picked London...toby47, wobbller and bigarsedkeeper.  We await their logic for doing so.

After 5 games of the 16, it comes as no shock that everybody has at least one loss.  Heavy picks Carlow, 52 out of 55 and Dublin with 45 picks took care of most.

Those with 4 correct are: toby47, rrhf, bigarsedkeeper, and BennyHarp.  That means 51 of us are bang-average at best.

Two are on 0: seafoid and "in hiding" (who went for 13 draws).

Roll on tomorrow.

Sorry I missed this thread all week. I'll have to take part for the fun in future weeks

Fire up your predictions for Sunday's games anyway...thee jury that is this board just might let you in.

Conhuir Johnson is a phenomenal footballer.  Delighted to see him shine in MacRory, playing against the best.

Ceist:  how does one pronounce "Conhuir"?

Time to see who are the real experts on the board by having a prediction competition for the National Football League.  I haven't run one of these before, but I think a simple prediction competition is best - no spreads or margin of victory type contests.

Just predict the winner of each game (16 games in each of the 7 rounds).  For now, 1 point for predicting the winner and 3 for correctly predicting a draw is the plan...is 3 for a draw about right?

I'll be putting up the fixtures on this thread by the Sunday night prior to a Round (so you'll be able to pick Rd 1 late Sunday night).  Quote the post and highlight your selection, or name winning team in the order the games are listed.  Hopefully the results for each round and a running total will be up each Sunday night as well.

Closing date for entries will be midnight Friday on the weekend of the fixtures.  You will be able to edit fixtures up to midnight on Friday.  Any entries/edits after the deadline get "null points" for that round...no exceptions.

Comments/Questions?

Edit:  No objections/improvements suggested, so 1 point for picking the winner and 3 for calling the draw.

It is apparent that posters using "reliable sources" for team news are producing wrong teams/squads.

Whether the poster is just making it up and taking us for a ride is also possible.

Such jokers really should be kicked off the forum, but I'll let it pass in the spirit of the New Year.

If posters want to speculate on "the team I'd like to see" there is no problem.

"Reliable source" will only be accepted if quoted from an official online source, like the County Board sites (website, Facebook, or Twitter) and a link provided.

I also think a few posters are on the edge with their posts as well, and are advised to cop on or bans will be coming - you know who you are!
