To the Mayo posters

Ref Eoghan O'Reilly

Was there any options available to Holmes, or was he the only man Castlebar had that could possibly do the job.

It's OK to have a go at Holmes, but I'm interested in the options he had beside putting someone else on him to get destroyed

My guess is that they would have moved Feeney onto Moran and given Connolly to Cuniffe,  but that's a mute point at this juncture

Games are very similar-fast, very physical, no defined tackle. It is inevitable disputes will arise when you have that confluence of factors.  If someone is acting like an arse, they would know theyre going to get called out....not necessarily by their direct opponent....more likely by an enforcer, or as they are popularly referred to a "goon"

1985-Mayo V Dublin AISF

Age 14

Admission-£1 hogan stand for kids

A gang of about 50 of us took the train up from Castlebar without parental supervision

My first introduction to underage drinking

The train on the way home had no lights, so some people used it as an opportunity to play fvck.

The following spring, Mayo played in the League Semi Final V Monaghan. The same crew of characters reassembled and again took over a carriage on the train.  i vividly remember one of the gang gaining access to the intercom and making some very entertaining public service announcements

Andy inside and Gallagher would not surprise me. What would surprise me is if Gallagher is seriously being considered as a corner forward.

Maybe Gallagher will come out around the middle and leave a two man inside line which would give Conroy and Freeman the space to take on their men one on one close to goal rather than out in the corners under pressure?

It'll be interesting to see how Harrison gets on in the corner although I would say Shane MacHale will be the main man for backup to our starting fullback line come the summer as well as being a viable no. 6 with Boyler and Vaughan.

I hope Stephen Coen gets some more game time and it will be interesting to see if Sweeney or Tommy Conroy make the bench for this one.

Tommy Goals would be better off trying to make the Mayo U21 team first.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the "Tommy Goals" moniker highly annoying.

As a former corner back, I would relish the opportunity to put someone like that on their hole.

If he keeps banging in the Goals in Croker for the rest of his career like he did for the minors then fair play to him. No problem with a nickname as long as he backs it up and is hated for living up to said moniker.

I thought any corner back worth his salt would relished putting any forward on his hole no matter what his name was? ;)

I am sure plenty of centre backs wanted to level the great Ciaran Mac because of his tattoo's , braided blond hair and the way he wore his socks up but it didn't stop him being brilliant for us. I didn't hear to many Mayo men giving out when he won games for us like in 2006!!

On his recent visit to Croke park Tommy Conroy was held scoreless by Truagh Gaels. I think its a bit too much pressure on a young player just out of minor level to be hyped up as some type of goal machine.

Didn't Ciaran McDonald receive verbal abuse whenever Mayo lost or when he had a poor game? maybe he was easy scapegoat for the way he looked.

My point exactly

I was watching a re run of the 2012 semi final versus Dublin and Jason Doherty was being referred to as the goal scoring specialist

Then with the game in the pot during the second half, one on one with Cluxton, he blasts wide.

When I hear this type of $hite, it just drives me mad

The Mayo News have done an analysis of Mayo league games since start of 2011 season.

It reads won 9, drew 2 and lost 11.

McHale Park is far from a fortress either. The home league record is won 4, drew 1 and lost 6!

Bring back the Ballina and Crossmolina matches!

Well said moysider, all this talk about the home advantage in Castlebar really does my head in. It's not as if we are unbeatable there. Just because we all think there's no kick left in Kerry, the hoors could still pull something out of the bag in this one.

What would be the largest pitch in the county?

The pitch in Parke used to be so big, they used to play soccer width wise

That's why we live in a democracy...everyone is entitled to their own opinion...

Noam Chomsky is about as far left as Glenn Beck and Bill O Reilly are right.  Neither is right, but there are merits to components of each opinion.  Each has bias and prejudice built into their positions, but you cannot take either position as absolute.

Here in the US we are currently dealing with Chris Christies "Bridgegate"....yet Christies biggest detractors are the very people who were Ted Kennedy's biggest cheerleaders. In case you don't know, a married Ted Kennedy drove off a bridge late at and left a young woman to drown, while he swam to safety, and made last call at a local watering hole.

I have come to realize that there's two sides to every story and the truth lies somewhere in between

$hite all round.  Extreme Muslims have a problem with anyone who doesn't bow down to their faith.

I didnt see too many Israelis at the Marathon in Boston last year when those 2 dogs decided to put a bomb down beside a Catholic Irish American Family...killed a seven year old boy, blew the leg of his 5 year old sister, blinded the mom in one eye and burst both her eardrums.

The Israelis are the only one who know how to deal with them
it is the only language they understand. Bring back the B specials. Or did I get that right?

Unfortunately appeasement and mollycoddling does not work when it comes to dealing with extremist Muslims.  Just look at what's happening in the UK-they're afforded every protection and freedom to practice their religion and they're still not happy.

They murder innocent people on their way to do a days work by blowing up busses and trains, attempt to blow aircraft out of the sky and decapitate "infidels" in broad daylight with butchers knives.

Israelis are no angels, but faced with what they're faced with on a daily basis, I can see their side of the argument

GAA Discussion / Re: Time for Joe to go??

Jim Gavin me arse.....obviously Joe didnt watch the last 10 mins of the AIF (and I would have expected and encouraged Mayo to do the same if they were protecting a lead)

I think I will start my own conspiracy theory:

Big conspiracy against the Mitchels, some of their best players getting red cards for fvck all at crucial junctures in important games

(BTW-did anyone see Kirbys red card in the U21 County Final? Was it justified? Who was the ref?  I find it hard to believe that a seasoned operator like Kirby would do something outrageous in the opening minutes of a County Final-but I could be wrong)
#5142
Well if Morans was a red card, Brigids should have ended normal time with about 7 players
#5143
Look at cakes great "save" in added time. Brigids player who was minding the line pole axed O Reilly who was making a fair attempt to dispossess  The  Cake. It could/should have been a penalty and a red card for the defender.

What about Cake throwing the ball away that Tom King handed him for the kickout-intentional time wasting.  What's the penalty for that-hop ball or free in???

Problem is that a mistake or marginal call at the end of the game is given all the focus because there's no opportunity to bounce back or have it cancelled out by an equally dubious call in your favour.

#5144
Well given that he should have been red carded for the elbow to Alan Feeney's head, I dont think he can have too many complaits.

Something must have happened prior to the line ball, as the Mitchells players didnt hesitate for one second in taking it. Marty pointed to his foot, which I took to indicate that there had been a foul against the Mitchels lad prior to the ball going out.  Were in the stoppage time of stoppage time so I assume Marty allowed him to just play the ball from the sideline rather than from where the infraction ocurred.

Regarding the amount of time added, with all of Cakes b0llok acting throwing the ball away, I dont think Brigids were going to get the benefit of any deisions there

Do people sit about in graveyards drinking tea? Am I missing out?

I don't know about tea, but I definitely know some people who go to the cemetery every year on the anniversary of their brothers death.  They knock back a case of Bud Light in his honor, and leave a few full cans on his grave-no word of a lie.
