These are very sad stories.

You can blame Mary Harney et al if you like, but as far as I'm concerned that's just a cop out - the same way the hospitals blame the government because they can't manage their budget.  The ones at fault are the people who manage the hospitals and nobody else.  They've been given the resources.

Mary Harney under the the appointment and of B Ahern is the person who manages the hospitals.

The number one reason I didn't want to see Harney back in health is the privatised hospitals, which as AZ has already pointed out will be very unfair and elitist.

Actually elitist is the wrong word. There is no elitist in HC. There is only those who need HC. Harney and her buddies (this Gov)  are changing this to 'those who can afford HC'. Becuase you can afford it dosen't make you elite it just means you life is worth saving more than those who can't afford it, to the people who get to decide on your HC treatment.

Mary Harney. That's her utopia I think. A privatised, competing, health service. There would be benefits to that, as there would be an awful lot less mistakes and mismanagement, but it would be very unfair and elitest, as in the US Healthcare system.

The threat of this went a huge way to causing the problem in the first place. If we have learnt anything we should not be intimidated by them again. It's not a reason to prevent a UI.

On the general topic, you've got to say 30 odd years of mayhem, 3000 dead, thousands in jail, etc etc etc, all so that a few politicians can speak in a non-executive committee. Aye that seems like a fair deal.

I accept FF and co as the Government and although I didn't vote for them I didn't do enough to stop them. In an election we all need to take responsibility.

We have been fooled. We are still being fooled. We have a habit of saying "auk sure they're all the same anyway". That's not good enough for me. I don't believe they're all the same. We should demand better. The level of crap and blatant lies we put up with would be unbeliveable to most other nations.

This sort of rivalry is very normal in sport although Nationalism can make it much worse.

e.g Tyrone hate Derry and Armagh. They don't hate Fermanagh and will often support Fermanagh in games. Tyrone are somewhat surprised when they hear Fermangh hate Tyrone. (Hate is the wrong word but you know what I mean)

A small but significant step nonetheless. This, together with things like players born in the six counties being granted permission to play for Ireland, are small steps which are chipping away at partition and leading to the inevitable reunification of our country.

People need a lesson in geography and history.  Why do people say the UK when they mean Britain (the mainland).  And who is the "Government of the Republic of Ireland".  The country's name is Ireland (or Éire) but not Eire. 

From now on anytime I refer to the 6 counties I will refer to them as Ireland (Ireland will also mean the 32 Counties) and when refering to the 26 Counties I will refer to them as The Republic of Ireland.
