Liverpool were absolutely woeful and Luton fully deserved the draw. I've been a pro-benitez man all along but I cant believe he left kuyt on for 90mins of that game and stuck him out on the right wing!!! That said the players need to take a long hard look at themselves - there was enough quality in the team to beat Luton but bar carragher, there seemed to be no leadership whatsoever. very disappointed with the likes of alonso who should have the ability to control the midfield v teams like Luton.

as for the argument surrounding the worthiness of the FA cup. It's one of the few competitions we lag behind the other English teams, in terms of qty won, so for that reason alone it'd be great to win. It's the 2nd best domestic trophy and since the Premier League is out of reach, it'd be great to win it.

As for the inabilty to compete in the PL, unfortunately until the yanks open the wallets further, we'll never compete with the top 3 (and im sorry but even though the top 4 get CL qualification, in the PL there are only 3 top teams, the others are playing catchup). We need another 2-3 players in the Torres class (and cost!!) before having a panel capable of competing with utd, arsenal & chelsea. and from the sounds of the financial state of the club, that aint gonna to happen too quickly...

thats a fair good question bud. not sure how i've stayed looking on this board so long without posting and i never thought my first post would be in the non gaa discussion section, but there you go.

i must say i've really enjoyed looking at the various threads on here for the last few years - some serious banter and good old craic as you say. i should really have posted earlier in the year, what with us being connacht champions and all, but i think i might have got slated for being a sunshine supporter or something like that.

anyway, have no intention of going away so hopefully you'll see plenty of me in the future.

now, must get myself a nice avator to go along with my user name. must say, i like your one bud...

I've just come back from the PC World store and thought I'd let you know how I got on.

When i asked the young girl if the warranty included battery replacement in the event of failure/over heating/losing charge, she replied "of course it does". I asked if she was sure, so she asked a colleague who said that it in fact wasnt covered as it's a "consumable". so i asked if they stock replacement batteries and she answered No (how did you know Bud???). And if I sourced a replacement battery myself, does the warranty still stand - she hadnt really a clue, but thought it should still hold.

At that point I asked to cancel the cover. She needed some assistance with this so her colleague came over who asked why i was cancelling. I explained that i didnt think the cover was worth it, when it doesnt even cover the battery and the cost is app. 35% of the laptop. He tried to suggest that I shouldnt even worry about the battery, and even if it did fail, i could pick up a replacement on ebay for €6. Sweet Jesus!!! And how would that effect the warrenty of the laptop, i asked??? Oh, im not sure but it shouldnt effect it. Yeah right!!!! I was getting a little frustrated at this point so i told him about my other concern - that the company wasnt even registered with the CRO. He looked at me like i had 4 heads and seemed to lose the ability to speak. So i asked who exactly is standing over this warranty - he said the store, here in sligo. But it's not a registered company, how can it be covering my insurance, i asked. He explained that it doesnt matter, as long as I had these little policy documents, I could sue the company if they refused to pay out. Oh ok, and im sure that would be a very smooth & efficient process....

Anyway, after finally cancelling the policy and getting my money back I made the 2minute phonecall to my household insurance company and I have my laptop included as a nominated item to the value of €699 for 0 additional charge. Happy Out!!!

So thanks to all for the advice and especially to Bud for his work. Sorry for this long-winded reply but I thought it only good manners to let you all know how I got on.

Happy new year to yiz all.

bud, thanks a million for all that. excellent stuff and i have to agree with sky  - you are indeed very knowledgable.

i'll call into the store on monday, give them a list of questions and then cancel the direct debit. i'll let you know what response i get.

by the way the battery i have is a 6 cell Lithium-ion battery. any idea how long i should expect the battery to keep its charge??

i knew i was right to get advise from this board.

thanks again.

Seems ok , epically for laptop where the slightest fall can some times f**k them up, the only thing to check is to make sure damage covers everything

pretty sure it covers everything. the guy even said that you could "accidentally" break the laptop of a wall in the 3rd year and it would still be replaced. not that you'd get any luck from doing such a thing.

The first thing you do is put the laptop as inclusive to "nominated" items on your house insurance.  I stood on my laptop getting out of bed this year when I was in hospital.  The insurance paid me the full value. They removed the hard drive and gave it back in a housing that just USB's to my new one so now I have a new laptop and a spare hard drive with all my old information.

yea, i thought of that and it's probably the best thing to do. the only question then is: are the 3 health checks worth the €180?? maybe not...

In three years you will have paid more than the price of a brand new replacement of the same spec.

Do you mean the €180 warranty cost?? Or some additional costs associated with the services? Surely €180 wouldnt get a new laptop

There ius a guyt down the road from Ballyboden Clubhouse, "No Waffle" computers and he will fix anything that can be fixed for 20 or thirty euro.

Thats great value. I know a guy here in sligo who charges €100 to fix anything. Thats why i thought the €180 was pretty good value.

thanks for the help guys.

Hi All,
Been looking on this board for years now but this is my first post.

I've just purchased a new laptop from PC World - Compaq Presario C701. Retail price was €699 but was on sale for €519 so i think i did ok. Anyway, generally i wouldnt even think about taking out additional warranty but i was talking to the salesman who was surprisingly a genuinely honest guy. He said that PC World do have a reputation about ripping off the customer when it comes to warranty etc. but that the existing deal is good value for money. it's a 3 yr warranty including accidental damage and costs €180 (€18 per month for 10mths). However it also includes 1 service/health check per year for the 3 years. These normally cost €80 each so by getting these 3 health checks done, you already save the warranty costs. He also said that if the laptop needs to be replaced due to damage, then i will be entitled to a new laptop worth €699 rather than the €519 i paid.

anyway, as you can guess i decided to take out the warranty but i can cancel the direct debit within the next 14days if i wish. so im looking for some advice from the tech guys on this board. Do you think the warranty is worth it or should i cancel. I will only be using the laptop in the house so the chances of damage is quite slim. but i do like the fact that i have 3 free health checks included.

anyway, any advice welcome & thanks in advance..
