Does every county have a different rule on what constitutes an intermediate team? Or is there some central guidance?

There's probably junior teams in Dublin could compete in senior in some counties!

Just like a premier division team from Ireland isn't going to cut it in the English Premier League.

I would imagine in most counties is the X number of best teams player senior, next X teams intermediate and so on.

The standard will be influenced by playing population, underage development etc.

Not sure what central guidance there could be, beyond suggesting a common format for splitting the teams into the categories.

You can't really have some objective standard of what constitutes a team fit to play senior or intermediate level beyond the ranking system within the county itself.

I'm sure there are teams in the Armagh senior championship that would struggle elsewhere, despite the national dominance of Crossmaglen.

It just seems so arbitrary; some counties can dominate the intermediate club championship by having smaller numbers in their senior championship. Accept it's difficult to moderate though

Since we're now a knee jerk sort of association any chance we could tackle the current blights in football? Firstly the cynicism that now destroys the final minutes of every match. It's become the norm now to drag and foul with impunity in the final minutes with the piecemeal black card meaning sweet fcuk all. Any foul now in the last attack should be rewarded with a 14 yard free. The black card actually aids cynical time wasting in the final 5 minutes.

Secondly something has to be done to tackle the keep ball of injury time now. It seems once injury is announced it singles the end of the leading team trying to cross the 45 and we're treated to 3 minutes of cornerback fullback 1-2s. I may as well watch Southampton play West Brom.

Any other suggestions?
The keep-ball tactic is painful to watch, but it's up to the opposing team to chase the ball properly, and managemnet having them prepared to do this; you see defenders still marking their men when one pt down and the ball 70 yds away

Some upsides; a chance for for players to represent their country, and (2) for great players form lesser counties to show their skills. Have been some wonderful contests over the year, but too hard to manipulate the rules to ensure an even contest

GAA Discussion / Re: Ladies GAA Finals

The Ladies GAA finals are always a great occasion. The junior, intermediate and senior split obviously works very well in ladies' football; the lower divisions are contested just as fiercely, if at a lower standard. The same template works well in club football, so why can't we make it work in senior mens' county?

Gutted for Mayo, but they had their chance, just lacked the necessary composure in the 2nd half. Vaughn's moment for madness was pivotal; the winning of the All-Ireland was right there, an easy free, 2 pts up, + an extra man for the last 15 mins........ It's hard to explain for sych an experienced player and a wonderful servant to gaelic football. On viewing the incident, it does seem a red was slightly harsh, + the Dublin footballer milked it, but really the red should have been for sheer stupidity. Also thought the last free was harsh in context of the rest of the ref's decisions
But in the great scheme of things, let not your heart be sad, this Mayo team will be well-remembered when many All-Ireland winners are forgotten

Unusual match; Wpt seemed to cruising at 6-1 up, then 15 min in Downpatrick suddenly unleashed a scoring blitztand by half-time, led 14-6; almost all from play and including a missed (pointed )penalty. Their accuracy was most impressive

Hardly the managers fault.
I did not see any strange decisions from him?Coukd you are to share?
Easy comment to make just because he is a high profile manager

That would involve naming players, which I won't do

No scoreboard in Hilltown tonight; at £8 in ridiculous. Didn't matter much in 2nd match, but first match was close

Seems like Dublin again, main challenge from Kerry and Tyrone. Mayo + Donegal seem to be fading (tho this time last year Mayo were fortunate vs Fermanagh, and still could have won Sam in the end)

RIP Leo Murphy, a giant of a man in every way. Despite his achievements, he played for Rostrevor 3rds at the end of his career, showing the humility of the truly great. The demise of 3rds football has been sad to see; there should be an outlet for players who just enjoy playing football and don't have the time time to take it too seriously

Understandable that our goalie had problems with the kick-outs. Under the floodlights, the colours probably looked quite similar. Red and black, green and white, it's no wonder he continually licked the ball to the Fermanagh team

I'm told the fight was at the 2011 quarter-final between Coalisland (blue) and Rostrevor (red) in Dromore in 2011
