General discussion / Re: The Late Late show

Quote from: From the Bunker on April 06, 2024, 12:01:20 PMJust watched Brolly and MDMA on Youtube.

12 minutes of an interview. Interview dominated by Brolly, All bar a couple of seconds given to MDMA.

Told a couple of stories about MDMA - With MDMA giving him the That's not what really happened Stare.

Then there was the touchy feely stuff during all of this with Brolly. MDMA a guest who ended up an audience member. You can see at the end MDMA is anxious to get the f*** out of there. Cringe!

So you didn't bother watching the 10/15 mins before that where Paddy was talking to Michael Darragh on his own and in particular about his families experience with organ donation. Brolly was brought on as a guest along side Michael Darragh after that interview. But sure why let facts get in the way of the fact you need to let the rest of us know how much you dislike Brolly.

It's laughable all the Loyalists / Unionists / Nolan falling over themselves to latch onto the one report that fits in with their narrative. They are so blind to the fact that NI has been run into the ground by themselves and the British. The report should have been framed with a different title - "Decades of funding required to correct the 100+ years of British/Unionist rule that impoverished the North?"

Quote from: illdecide on April 05, 2024, 09:48:06 AMYou men are some craic...you have Derry v Armagh in the final with Derry winning pulling up...

Armagh will be lucky to get out of Brewster Park next weekend and if they're lucky enough to win that they more than likely will play Down who always give Armagh their fill of it and if that match was in Newry i'd not be over confident going there with our record. Derry will have 2 really hard games to get to the final and as much as they're a great team I believe we have seen their full hand over the last while where other teams are not or have not been at full throttle yet or injured players due back. Derry are good but I still put Dublin and Kerry above them come July time and Ulster teams may well catch them on the hop too, they're not as good as everyone is making them out to be...A couple of aging players with some miles in the legs and a great man marker for McGuigan can go a long way to beating them.
Another cliché, showing their hand because they played well. Did Dublin show their hand when they beat Kerry by 10 points. I've heard people say Dublin aren't fully at it yet but the week before people were going to hand them Sam in March. As for aging players, i'd argue our age profile is very good. McKaigue obviously is old but he looks in great form this season. Rogers, McKinless and McFaul around 29 and the rest of the team are all early to mid 20s.

Derry are practically full strength and are doing well, my point being Dublin had 4-5 players still to come back into that team and Cluxton will find his man 99/100 for certain possession. Dublin will only get stronger. Kerry will improve too come late summer so that was my thinking from my earlier comment. Derry are the best team in Ulster from my eye test but are beatable and being in the tough side of the draw it could have an effect on them, only takes a suspension and an injury or two to do the damage.
Armagh will not win the All-Ireland but they can bloody someones nose on the way and can win Ulster if their luck is in.
If i'm ranking Ulster teams i have...
1) - Derry
2) - Armagh
2) - Tyrone
2) - Monaghan
2) - Donegal
6) - Cavan
7) - Down
8) - Fermanagh
9) - Antrim

Armagh, Tyrone, Monaghan and Donegal are all similar levels and capable of beating each other and if it falls right for them on the day with some luck can beat Derry too. If i'm honest Antrim are 9th but Cavan, Fermanagh and Down are similar level too but that level is below the level  of the quartet mentioned.

Its a fair point that Dublin have 4 or 5 players to come back in,
But I am wondering about the 4 or 5 players that had a bad game on Sunday and need replacing?
From what I observed half or more of that 4 or 5 might well be the more established players.

The year is 2165 and Stephen Cluxton is about to win his 100th All Ireland aged 182!!

Quote from: screenexile on April 04, 2024, 12:42:59 PMIs there something to be said for both teams holding their cards close to their chest for the Championship and playing fairly shite on purpose??!!

I don't see what is to be gained from that. From an outside perspective looking in Armagh should have been all out to win the Division 2 final on Sunday, especially given the side of the draw they are on in Ulster. Yes, it may only have been the "owl" league but IMO Armagh needs to start winning something to help kickstart that bit of belief and get into winning habits. If that starts with the Div 2 final then why not start there?

Quote from: Armagh18 on April 03, 2024, 09:13:35 AMChange the calendar to allow one replay ffs. If it means teams playing 3 weeks in a row so be it. If its still level after extra time in a replay then ok penalties are fair enough or else next score wins.

Which match or weekend in the next few months would you like to change to allow this one replay?

Wouldn't matter what was done, boys would find something to gripe about.

Derry / Re: Derry Club Football & Hurling original

Hopefully the start of bigger things to come. This Derry team gets better and better. I thought McKinless coming on at half time gave us an extra edge at that stage of the game driving us forward at Dublin. Any word of what his injury was? While we have a bit of a luxury in that we can cover a loss like McKinless which we'd have struggled in previous years you'd still want him starting games. The man is built for games with a wee bit of an edge. Was great to see a bit of fire in the lads at the end of that game.

Quote from: Mario on March 31, 2024, 10:40:27 PMhe's so attacking in everything he does.

Is he really? Most of the time he just takes and gives a handpass. You almost never see him attack the way someone like Rafferty (or even Morgan) does.
Forward kick passing was very good today. He's a goalkeeper, not an outfield player in goals

Absolutely, and that shows in his shot stopping compared to the likes of Rafferty.

That result today is a real shot in the arm for Derry. Great to see a bit of fire in the belly again. Plenty to work on but we are inching forward in the right direction.

Also, just to say how good was Jarlath Burns today. A total Gael and the way he conducted the presentations was first class. Well and truly shows up his predecessor as the complete spoofer he was.

Of course they will.
They'll want to put Derry back in their box as pretenders to an AI.

Interesting point someone made about our goalkeeper pushing up and the speed of attack from Dublin. It's certainly a concern but I think we have to play our own game.
Dublin at times against Tyrone, early in the first half before it got completely away from Tyrone, had 15 men behind the ball in their own half, or even inside the 45.
Tyrone couldn't make inroads and either were turned over or hit wides, but were then really slow to get back whereas Dublin bombed forward.
I think it's something Derry will have to watch for in game and make that judgement call on when to push up and when not to.
Tyrone's attack were too lateral, I think Derry will be more direct too and will run at the Dublin defence.
I think running at them is the only chance you have to get through them, so it will have to be a high risk approach to the match for Derry I think. Commit players forward, push up on the Dublin kickouts (including Lynch) and filter back at speed.
I do think Derry are better than Tyrone and I really hope we don't let Dublin get a head of steam up early.

Every game is on the day, but Dublin will be raging hot favourites.

I was at the Dublin v Tyrone game, and the speed they move the ball at, the accuracy of the their kick passing is next level, and their work rate is just so so high. And that was them without a raft of players. Its scary how good they were, but another part of me thinks that Tyrone made them look really good too as they were so poor. I suspect they are not just as good as they looked yesterday, but they are still awesome.

Derry will ask more of them than Tyrone, will compete in the middle sector, will attack from everywhere and have some top rate defenders. Match ups in defence will be key. McKaigue doesn't have the legs to man mark a Con O'Callaghan , so potentially McEvoy there. Hopefully McKinless is fit to play, a huge loss if not.

McKinless if he doesn't play is a big loss surely but he'll be a bigger loss if he plays and gets a further setback going into the Donegal game. That's only 3 weeks away this weekend. I'd prefer he sits this one out if there is any jeopardy to him playing in that game.

Roscommon had a serious amount of goal chances yesterday and the Dubs won't miss many of those.

Yes

Absolutely. And no better place for them to be blitzing teams than in Croke Park. But that's a different argument.

GAA Discussion / Re: RG at arms length
March 21, 2024, 06:27:34 PM
Quote from: tbrick18 on March 21, 2024, 05:43:22 PMTo take the RG scenario, it was all based on social media claims. There has been a Garda investigation and RG has custody of his kids and there has been no criminal prosecution.
So if the GAA take action against someone based on social media claims then I don't know where that will end.

If someone has been found guilty of a crime in a court or law, then depending on the crime the GAA should take action. Even during a trial they would be within their rights to stand someone down pending an outcome. But I think it has to be crime dependant - for example, if someone was in court for failing to pay their TV licence and was found guilty I wouldn't expect them to be sanctioned within the GAA. If they were found guilty of fraud/murder/assault etc its obviously a different question as they could pose a risk to the organisation or its members. To the best of my knowledge, there are no GAA regulations around someone's criminal past being a factor when participating in GAA though I could be wrong.

In the RG case, if he'd been found guilty in a court of law, or even prosecuted I think the GAA would be within their rights to stand him down to protect others he could come in contact with. But since he hasn't, they have no grounds to do that imo.

Lord save us and bless us, someone applying common sense to things instead of knee-jerk reactions based on social media.

Another thing that needs to happen is sorting the mot wait times. Short term allow people to tax the car without mot.

It's farcical at the minute with MOT and Tax. Two different bodies who don't appear to have any communication whatsoever. Zero common sense between these two departments but sure what else would you expect.

Lol no. Stormont hasn't the power to run a hen house.

They could  heat one though.
