The origins of "Boxing Day"?

Apparently it comes from when the Victorians boxed up all their unused / eaten food on Christmas day and gave it to the poor on the Saint Stephen day

Political or not, it's incorrect. In the same way it's incorrect when Unionists refer to the North as 'Ulster'.
Or like when Nationalists refer to Northern Ireland as the North perhaps. What about poor old Senegal?

Sorry Cake, but you're basing your statement "el papa" like on what? Yea I read your previous proclamations of superior knowledge

What exactly are you asking me, Ardal? If indeed you are asking anything at all.

There are no "British and Irish isles" in any sense of the phrase. The British isles is a geographical reference to the totality of both; inclusive of islands, of both, relatively, new nations.

Well, to borrow a quote from Roy Keane, "just because Alex Ferguson says something, doesn't mean he's right". And just because Ireland and Britain are referred to as the "British Isles" doesn't mean it's correct.

The British gave Derry a different name, but it's doesn't mean we all have to use the L word, does it?

"The British"?
The city of London bought Derry, not the British, although it should be called "London´s Derry"

What are you hoping for in 2014?

Job..... Grand on the work front. Maybe a little less take home work

Family......That the family in Ireland try to understand what I'm going through, and that the wife changes her mind about the seperation. it'd kill the wee lad

Sporting.....Now that Cross are out of the club championship, a wee bit of a run for Armagh

Health......To get the knees operated on and that weird pins and needles feeling continually in my back and shoulders to get sorted out

Other......Happieness in general for one and all

I may be wrong but when studying, a geographical term used was "The British isles" which referred to the totality of both islands.
It was a geography term, not political in sense originally. Thus I believe the term is correct, even though I dislike it.

Domestic appliances are just a big no no.

My missus is getting a weekend away with a friend of her choice with spa etc thrown in.
I've made the reservation for February:
Valentines covered
It's my sons birthday so she'll obviously take us along
hey presto

Uraguay.

England for 1/4s. Beat Spain with mad deflection at the  end of the game to advance to Semi.

Meet Germany in Semi's, Roony spoons peno in penalti kicks after extra time.

Germany meet Uraguay in final. Forlon and Suarez dive for peno's. Both given, both scored.
Two germans sent off for being too blonde and having "Merkel love child" tattoos.

World recession ends.

England talks about what might have been and weep.

USA invade New Zealand for no apparent reason.

Irish work sick days higher during world cup than even when Ireland are playing in it.

The Brazalian versión of that bloody irritating horn thing used during African world cup, is blamed for the death of 2 billion people, but also soothes world hunger figures.

Massive riots in Brazil due to demands for political upheaval. World press concentrates on those dives against the Germans.

I went, goodbye to the port and brandy, to the vodka and the Stag,
To the Smithwicks and the Harp and the bottle, draught and keg.
As I sat lookin' up at the Guinness and I could never figure out
How your man stayed up on the surfboard after 14 pints of stout.

We concreted in a small section of the garden; about 1m by 1m. If the dog shat outside this the nose was rubbed in it. If it shat inside then no nose rubbing. After about 3 to 4 weeks no more shite in the garden

Will all of Galway and Roscommon really be supporting Mayo in the final?

No. Neither will all of Sligo. lawnseed won't either so that's all Armagh out of the equation as well.
[/b

Lawnseed an Armagh man! Feck I always call him a Tyroneman.

First of ignore the comments about Lawnweed; I'm sure he's not from Macha's county, pretty sure he's from elsewhere.

Can anybody really see the Dubs not thrashing Mayo?

I'm an anti Dub, so have looked at Mayo for a wee few bob since the league, but shall pull the stake in now I think.
