Thanks folks.  Running wouldn't be completely alien to me, it's just been a while.  But yes, flexibility in general is an issue.  I will get working on that over the next week.  A bit of foam rolling and some heel drops off the stairs once the pain eases a little more.
Foam rolling not essential , more about perception of soreness rather than doing anything structural to the tissue....if you enjoy it, fire away the evidence says but if you don't , it's ok to not do it.
I'd avoid heel drops at this stage ...rather go for long sustained holds...ie , edge of step...raise up onto ball of foot and hold that elevation statically for 45-60 seconds x 5 times during the day. Tolerable level of discomfort is ok while doing exercise but should resolve quickly ...if pain escalates, dial back the time of the elevation of calf raise.
Need to be able to hop x 20 times painfree before attempt run....and then , be conservative with distance and intensity when you return...primary cause of running injury is doing too much too soon. Any questions throw us a pm

Cheers. I'm now pain free walking and heel drops ok too. I'll try holding up for 45-60 seconds. Then do some hops before I try a run. Dying to get back at it.

While I'm here, what way do you guys approach warming up, stretching etc before a run. Would yous do a bit in the house before setting off or would you jog a little then stop to do stretches etc before actually commencing your timed run?
Evidence thin regarding benefits of stretching , personal preference really . Personally I just put on the runners and out the door with first mile , half mile easy jog. I'd do some strides before a track session.
1 session of strength training a week though , dead lifts ..squats , calf raises with weight added etc ...

Which foam roller is best? The smooth one or the ones with bumps?

I'd need it for glutes, calves etc and to loosen up the back now and again.
Have you looked at the backballer? Supposed to be good, though I have never tried one.

Load of bollox . Waste of money!

Are the massage guns any use or a waste of money for likes of muscle tightness from running. Back doing runs after knee surgery almost a year post op. Any advice appreciated!
Ya, complete bullshit. Avoid . Placebo at best and I'd even class it as a nocebo, because people feel they need it and actually become less resilient .

I find it hard that counties will want to play in anything unless they have ample time to train and prepare which wouldnt make it viable this year
Absolutely , you're talking at least 4-6 weeks of collective training for it to be even an option ...especially if games are played off quickly , players won't have the capacity to play and recover.

As mentioned earlier , social distancing is not viable in a dressing room...all it takes is for one player, management , medic etc to test positive and whole group have to isolate for 14 days....you can't have that and hope to play games on a regular basis.

Better is GAA stopped with the kite flying and forget about games for the foreseeable .

Outside China, Italy and Iran the second strain appears weaker and is just the flu. No real death rate at all in other countries bar these ones.

Panic over.

Please shut up. Its idiots like you with incorrect opinions like yours that is going to do a lot of harm in slowing this down.

South Korea: 35 dead, 41 recovered = 46%
Japan: 6 dead, 43 recovered = 12%
France: 4 dead, 12 recovered = 25%
Spain: 2 dead, 2 recovered = 50%
US: 11 dead, 8 recovered =58%

The above % obviously dont count those that are in recovery mode

How long does it take to recover?

For recovery is there certain types of medication being taken or is it only hospitals that can provide the medication?

With governments predicting high instances of people getting the virus surely that is the type of information that is vital now considering it cannot be contained?

There's no medication to treat Coronavirus other than staying hydrated, eating healthy and giving your body what it needs to fight.  In 80%.of cases it is considered mild. However, those who have underlying health issues such as elderly folk, COPD, Asthma, diabetes etc they are much more likely to develop severe symptoms and may require hospitalisation because their lungs cannot cope with the virus as well. Therefore they may need assistance via a respirator to breathe properly.

The government's across the world I feel have shown a serious level of neglect. It's been a case of "oh we will do something about it when it comes here". It was always coming and they did the bare minimum.
Same type of meds used to treat malaria has been used in China and has been successful in slowing down the aggressiveness of the virus in infected people...giving more time for antibodies to work and recover.

More cases in the West of Ireland, 4 people all of whom were in Italy.
A least the West is getting its fair share, and Dublin is not getting it all.

That's the number of cases doubled in a day, although Italy is the main cause.

Also student in QUB likely with virus, who went to class! That could be problematic.

Only online now. Where in the West of the country?

Should Horan have made a couple of changes earlier in the game larryin? The subs all seemed to have made an impact when they came on.

He can't keep picking some of those lads that started. Can he?
I think he is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea here. On the one hand, he had a lot of what would be first choice players who are out through injury or at least not match fit. If he starts panicking and throwing some of them on he is risking further injuries to his better players and enforced absences during the championships coming up soon. It's Hobson's choice I'm afraid.
On the other hand, some of the newer players are showing potential and sooner or later, he will have to let a raft of the old guard go. Unless he bloods replacements in, he will be in even more trouble than he is right now.
I thought a few likely lads showed up last year and this year to date has been even more promising. We have always had problems getting youngsters to mature enough to play at championship level but the last few years, and this one especially, there has been quite a few.
Ossian Mullin looks the real deal already and Tommy Conroy, Towey, O'Donoughe and a few others are developing nicely. Throw in Matty Ruane and probably Fionn McDonagh from last year and things are looking good for the future.
Maybe not too good at present but dammit!, Tiocfaidh ar lá arís very soon. ;D

The names you mention as positive I will give you yeah. In fact I think I mentioned them in an earlier post and would raise you Swanee O Hora as well. They are fairly obvious as well. On the other hand there are lads wheeled out every week that are as obviously not at it at all. These are JH's projects so if he is caught between devil and deep blue sea ....... If you look back at recent panels, there were young lads that were indulged for years that never were good enough.
I reckon Mullin will he gone to Australia at the end of championship.
do you know this or are you just guessing?
Horan has done in this league what Rochford
shoul have started 3 years agohould have started 3 years ago bringing  genuine change to the team and people have to keep the faith and trust Horan  . no one is going to remember relegation if may win the All Ireland and there is the nucleus of a very good new team there  and the young lads are getting bett with every Game, new leaders are emerging without the older hands on board .In Particular Coen and Diarmauid along with Aidan are now running the show even with Coen playing out of position he has come on in leaps in bounds this year.
at time the team is not gelling  and our kick outs are killing us but Is slowly coming together and I think we will see more of these lads in the summer than  you think
Guessing but he was no.1 player identified at the trials pre Christmas, James Horan in interview on mayonews podcast said "he"ll be playing for mayo in 2020 season". That's me reading between lines.
