That match should have been in Carlow for a start. €25 into Croke Park when you could have got into Portlaoise last Saturday for a tenner proves yet again the sheer stupidity of the Leinster Council fixtures committee.

Did you not read all the complaints, they charged €25 into Portlaoise.

From our Community Council FB Page.

Know this will be covered on other media sources but.....our own little tribute !
Conal Keaney has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling and football and that is one hell of a sad announcement to everyone who enjoyed watching him play, especially all the younger players who will continue to look up to him. Conal won his first All-Ireland medal in 2003 when Dublin won U21 All-Ireland championship.

He was selected for the Dublin senior football team in 2005 when he won his first Leinster Championship medal against Laois. (which as a Laois man he constantly reminds me) He went on to win four more Leinster Football titles and while doing so he was nominated for Vodafone player of the month, highest scorer, man of the match and other awards and was selected for Ireland's International Rules team.

Along with the U21 All-Ireland medal he has 5 Leinster Senior Football medals, 1 Leinster Senior Hurling medal and 1 National League senior hurling medal. He represented Leinster in the Railway Cup (2006) when he was nominated for an All-Star. The "Dublin Hurling Resurgance" was due in no small way to the leadership of Conal and when Dublin defeated Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup there was a great buzz around Ballyboden and Firhouse. Conal played a key role in Dublin's hurling resurgence, scoring 14 points, and winning 'Man of the Match' in Dublin's defeat of the reigning All-Ireland hurling champions, Tipperary, in February 2011.

Few of us will ever forget the 22nd July 2011 when news filtered through to where we worked that Conal had been in a motorbike accident. Would Dublin have won an All-Ireland in 2011 had that accident not happened? They had beaten Limerick and their next game was against Tipp and he was raring to go so, whether they would have won the All-Ireland or not, the loss of Conal was a huge factor. When someone like Henry Shefflin gives him a special mention in his autobiography, that loss through injury is put in perspective.

At club level for Ballyboden he won 2 county senior football titles and five senior hurling titles. There are a lot of children on green spaces around Firhouse swinging hurls today who will always and forever look up to him. The winning of the All-Ireland Club Senior Football Championship on Patrick's Day was surely the icing on the cake and the perfect pedestal from which to announce his retirement from his Inter-County career.

Thank you Conal for all the enjoyment you gave. Thank you for being the gentleman that you are. Best of luck with your company, Park Bikes and of course the good news is that some golf club is going to gain a scratch golfer!

Tweet from Damien Tierney from RTE who last week attended above all things a Club Football match in South Kilkenny.
His tweet "At Clb football here in Kilkenny, First ball goes over sideline - player shouts at manager "Do I throw it or kick it?"

I was just looking up funniest tweets of the year and while not a joke in the real sense this fella from Cork made one right one.
Seemingly he was out working a lot and the wife, now his ex wife, was a fan of the Waterboys - The Whole of the Moon and all that.

His tweet "Hi, still a fan of the Waterboy's?  "While I was out working, you rode the whole of Macroom"

I do only be here an odd time now and occasionally I see the posts about Android Boxes.  I have imported a fair few of these, some good, some bad.  My main business was CCTV and my main use for them was for people to fit them to their bedroom telly and using an app they could watch their CCTV or the cow calving. For what it's worth, here are a few of the lessons I have learned over the years:

Some of these boxes are copies of "other" boxes that come in plastic housings with little or no heat sinks on the circuit and are a potential fire risk, rule 1 get one that is CE Approved, RoHS compliant and ultimately - safe.

In my opinion, again for what it is worth, the main pitfalls are that the developers of the addons fall out with each other from time to time and what is a good add-on today is bad tomorrow. To avoid this, buy a box from a company that provide access to their own server for continuous updates.

Boxes on AliBaba claiming to be X manufacturer are plastic duds if you can buy them for less than the Trade supply cost from the manufacturer - or - they are being sold cheaply because the importer has had the supplier lower the cost of the shipping invoice to avoid Vat and Duty and when he is in jail along with someone for changing the rate of duty on onions to garlic you will be left with a useless product.

Low bandwidth. CCTV, Android boxes etc have been for a large part using MPEG4 decoding but this was then changed to H265 just around now.  H265 uses 60% less disc space than H264 and for obvious reasons is much faster.  Zoomtak are completely out of K5 boxes at the moment because they are clearing out all their H264 stock and will now release 4K boxes with H265 encoding - their T8 PLUS product already has it.

As the version of Kodi changes, next one being V16, they change their software and you simply clear your cache and data, log on to their server using the tool on the box and upgrade to the latest version with all the compatible add-on's and you are away in a hack.

To buy from Zoomtak you need to bring in at least 5 boxes per order, you can ask for a small amount of sample product but 5 people together paying DHL for 1 box each is going to cost you €200 for delivery and €250 for boxes and €10 each for customs clearance charge whereas you could get 5 boxes for €250-260 all inclusive if you group together.

Zoomtak also have Teamviewer installed so they will log in and help you if required.  I have no interest in Zoomtak, I am merely saying that from my experience of importing over 200 boxes that I found them to be the best, the main reason being that if you want a complete upgrade you simply log onto their server, click on update and go to the pub.  When you come back you can turn on most films in full 1080P streaming in H265 - even if you are too pissed to see them.

Boring?  Annoying more to the point when some of us less educated mere mortals have to go to Google to understand what you are saying.

Eoghain is away at the moment, Fantasy Land I believe.  If not there is going to be some sale of GPS tracking systems.  They must have had one on JBM's car because the rumor I am hearing is that he did not turn up for an important training session before the very week before either the Galway or Clare game but was instead at the VIP section of a soccer match.

( the legion of Galway bandwaggoners who cannot be a...d going to games in Salthill (or anywhere else except in September) but are well able to put the knife in all the same. )

The ones behind me yesterday are the reason I am delighted the Cats hurled them off the park in the second half. Every second word was "cnut"  If these yobos could hurl a sliothar as well as they can hurl abuse they might win an All-Ireland.

Man of the match from what I hear is Jackie Tyrell   - for his rousing half time speech.

Well done to Galway Minors, they provided three great games of hurling over the last month with the replay against Kilkenny prior to yesterdays final. I hope they (particularly that young No. 11 lad, only 17) get all the plaudits they deserve and are not dependent on support of the assholes behind me yesterday.

Ah jaysus, only saw this now and that's a nice thing to say. I didn't drive all the way to Sligo with it though, I was down in Donellans in Knockvicar drinking pints and I said to myself, before I started into them that you were not that far away and I would drop it off. Lovely country up there and I must tell this story:
There is no mobile phone service, no broadband where I was but somehow a text got through to my phone sitting on the bar, back end of beyond in Knockvicar. I said to my man, that was *****  ****** who plays for Dublin and he wants to play golf on Tuesday. Fella down the bar say's "Do you know him, how do your know him, I'm his feckin godfather" So I texted back, "ring you later, drinking pints with your godfather Gerry in Knockvicar"  Small world.

The box. I may no longer have your email but, and this goes for all TV Boxes, there is a doomsday factory default. Manufacturers are reluctant to give out their boot firmware.  I have the boot firmware for your product on a USB stick and it is on a zip file that I can mail you.  There is no need to use it, avoid using it at all costs unless you are in real trouble. Save it and keep it safe. If box ever fails just stick in USB, switch off, hold pin in reset and it will return to fresh start up.  Also, once a month, at least, go to apps, find Kodi App and under "Uninstall" select clear cache.  Any issues; tom@fennetec.com Thanks. And thanks for the plug ! !

Sorry!! Obviously I'm not up to speed with this stuff.

Can I get RTE on Kodi??
[/quote]

If you take a look here you will see this lunatic telling you how to configure Kodi. Most boxes should come with it already configured or contained in add ons like Phoenix but if only for a laugh have a listen to this fella - go to 13 mins in for the stations he adds on.

Hi Ros, how are you. I don't be on here that much anymore but I must make a comeback ! I see a lot of the old hands are still here, love reading Donnelly's Hollow on the nags, I see Dinny Breen pops in now and again. Awful lack of big rows though !! Maybe Dubs having all their games at home and having a basketball coach on their backroom team should start one?

As for the boxes, I don't want to appear to be using DB to sell them but I have tested a lot of them. Make sure the housing is aluminium case (heat dissipation) for one thing and cheap copies of shady technology inside plastic copies being another reason. Make sure it has a decent spec (2GB Ram and 8GB Flash Memory)
The best way is for five or six people to group together and by direct from a manufacturer, Zoomtak for instance. They have their own back up server so at any time you can upgrade the box OTA. You can also reset the box to default and upgrade to new versions of Kodi direct from their server.  I  say five or six in a group because with DHL Freight you would end up getting 5 for the price of 3 - generally !

As for the idea itself of having a box you will seldom look at TV again as you used to.  Go for it Ros

You get what you pay for, some are $30, some are 130$ but when the newer higher definition TVs come out, (are out) it will be the units with the better processing capabilities that make the difference. Having said that, if you dont have good broadband forget it.

Here is a sample   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vrdgDdPApQ of the new 4k/UHD that all new tv's will have. Go to you tube, select full screen and then in settings select the 2160p resolution. You won't stream that on a 30$ box with a dual core processor unless you are prepared to watch it starting and stopping like the Laois team.

Even if you have low bandwidth you can still manage fairly well once you have a good box but compare apples with apples when you are deciding, not price.
