"battle for hearts and minds" what the hell is that about. Sport is not some popularity contest where we have to get everybody to play it. Especially if it means, changing the whole ethos of the organisation.

I can't understand why this is an issue.
Getting Protestants to play GAA is like trying to get Rugby snobs in Dublin to play soccer.
Why bother.
Because south Dublin is fast becoming Dublin's hurling heart land and with your attitude that never would of happened

My attitude, its the attitude of the Rugby crowd that is the problem.

I cant understand why this is an issue, if they dont like the way the GAA is run, big deal. The GAA has plenty to be sorting out before they start beating themselves up over this issus.

Hurling Discussion / Re: Babs 'Cry me a River' Keating

I though that it was a bit much of 'babs' to critise Eoin Kelly, the man has been an all-star since he was like 5 years old, and he was one year when he didn't attain god like status. Jesus Christ what does he expect.
He basically said that he can't get through to the players anymore and they done listen to him.
Babs retire and enjoy your self.

"Gnevin" I accept what you are saying, but why do we have to accommodate them.
If they don't accept the way the GAA is now what loss is it.
#54
Why do we have to bend over backwards to try and accommodate these people.
The GAA is an Irish sport played by Irish people.
Don't forget why the GAA was set up for in the first place.

I have an English in-law who attends games when he visits during the summer and he doesn't take offence at all to the flags etc.
People who complain about the flags, national anthem etc have some political agenda and they take pot shots at the GAA because it is high profile.

It makes me sad to see a man like that nearly cry like that. He should just go away to his holiday home.

You can clearly see him moving over the ball on the replay, Roy Keane will surely have something to say about this anti-cork behaviour :)

"new devil" should we just let them go and play AFL without a fight.

is it the fact they are playing another sport or getting paid for it that angers you?

players leave the fold all the time. deal with it.

It is neither of these two things.
I have nothing against people playing other sports I would encourage it. I regret the fact that when I was young I played GAA exclusively; I wish I had tried others.
I also have no problem with the players going down under to play professionally, who could blame them.

Its the fact the AFL see the GAA as a soft touch when it comes to recruiting players that gets me going.
There is nothing the GAA can do to stop the AFL taking players on an official level.

I have said that this ban would never work in practice; I just threw it out there to get discussion going.
But something similar occurs with the all blacks, to get picked for them you have to play your club rugby in New Zealand, if you head overseas you by in large are off the team.
The same with the Irish rugby team, by in large you have to stay and play your club rugby in Ireland to get picked for the national team.

Nobody sees these unofficial rules as a problem.
