Good stuff, it should never have been a PPV fight anyway.

That was some masterstroke of Brennan playing SL McGoldrick at corner back, it worked out unexpectedly well.  Good to see M Friel put in a good shift at midfield today too.

Or maybe you just don't know people from the 26 counties find that term offensive as it is the Irish Republic.
Why? You were originally the Irish Free State. It is a term spoken out of envy in this part of the world.

It comes across as a clear denial of the correct status of the Irish State as a Republic. It comes across as a bitter comment on the people of the Republic, who are 100% Irish (as you) and who don't deserve your nasty attitude for just living their lifes. By the way we were Southern Ireland for a few weeks before being the Irish Free State, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland before that, the Kingdom of Ireland before that and the Lordship of Ireland before that. So it make us no sense to call the 26 counties anything but their official title of Ireland or Éire. If those correct terms seem partitionist or too easily confused with the island of the same names why not refer to the 26 as the acceptable name of Irish Republic or the inoffensive description of the 26 Counties. It can get a bit tiring when everything someone from the Republic says is screamed down as bigoted or partitionist, but people from the 6 counties can shout Mexican, FreeStater, WestBrits etc. and find it perfectly acceptable.
We've been through this argument countless times, when will freestaters get it through their thick heads that people in the north refer to the south as the "freestate" and the people there as "freestaters" and the easiest term to use, it's not said with bitterness or anything else. Could you engage your brain for a minute to get that through?
You want people to call the 26 counties Ireland or Eire? What does that make the 6 counties? If someone says Ireland or Eire to me I assume they're talking about 32 counties.
I will not call the 26 counties the Irish Republic either, people have died for hundreds of years for a 32 county Irish Republic, the only time I feel comforable referring to an Irish Republic is when it's a 32 county Irish republic.
I suggest you don't be so sensitive.

"Freestater" is certainly a perjorative term.  You only have to say it once to any southerner to see how it pisses them off.

Any history documentaries presented by Bettany Hughes are always worth a watch.

QuoteAlso, Mr. Lynch, this is the GAA that you signed up to and it goes far beyond the small pockets of air that enter your head, so if you don't like it, why don't you fcuk off?

Is he not entitled to his opinion? I don't have strong feelings on whether scor, handball etc. are kept within the the GAA or not but I always find it strange when people attack a man for expressing his opinion and not simply respond to the content of it.

For me everything about the GAA should be up for debate and if you want something changed or modified then you come out and say so. If you have strong feelings about something then I would encourage you to convince others of their merits and try to implement these changes.

A little bit of non-traditional thinking is always needed, if only to provoke debate, so that we don't get too comfortable.

Dangerous thing upsetting the GAA Board's Purity Corner  ::)
Those crew don't want any one tainted by Croke Park life or who received money from the GAA to open their gobs at all. ;)
For the record I disagree with Mr.Lynch's views on this matter.

Lynch is bringing stinging criticism on himself by saying people who play a certain recreational game are on an "ego trip", I think he needs to keep his own ego in check by the sound of him.

I would agree with his comments regarding alcohol sponsorship though- look at all the Guinness sponsorship with "this is rugby country" bunting plastered round bars all over the place.  Rugby are taking money from Guinness and getting promotion of their game as well, GAA should be doing the same.

Very Disappointed with Lee at the weekend. Never seen his movement as poor and disappointed how easily he was caught. He looked very stiff.
To his credit, his punching power got him out of the hole he had dug himself into.

He always looks stiff and robotic, doesn't seem to have much flair but does possess power.  At least he won against an opponent who has had an impressive career to date.

McEwan looked a handy enough fighter to be fair to Lee and was capable of throwing much better combinations.  Lee fights southpaw but he's right-handed I think and his jabs certainly seem to carry a lot of power.  He leaves himself quite open at times though when he throws right hooks.  Martinez would tear him apart but he would have a chance against some of the other title holders in the division.

A United Ireland needs to be voted for the majority of people on the Island, such a referendum would not be passed in the 26 counties at the moment in my honest opinion.

This is not something I would personally agree with but most people down South can't stand the "Nordies" , this wouldn't be as prevalent in GAA circles as it would be in others

Can't agree with that, have been loads of places in the South and been well-treated everywhere the vast majority of the time.

Can never understand why those who don't believe always feel the need or feel they have the right to mock those that do believe.

Because the vast majority are no better than domesticated sheep when it comes to your faith. Its a routine of life learned before youse were encouraged to question and youse still havn't examined it. Quite happy to stay safe with your primary school indoctrination and not ask questions.

Be that true or not and I have no idea how who know this considering the billions of people that do have faith, but how exactly does this give anyone the right to mock people that do believe?

Sure people get mocked for other things on the board and in everyday life, there's no reason religious belief should be exempt

What did John mean by a six pointer?

I asked another board member the same question and he reckoned everything becomes bigger or better, such as 4 turning into 6, when you apply The Brennan Factor.

John Brennan reckoned last week's game was a "six-pointer"  :D, this is another big one.  A Derry win and they'll be well on course for promotion as I'd fancy them to get a win down in Sligo in the next round of fixtures.

He's been through the door before so he should know where it is this time around, these sort of comments should worry any Down fan.

Even before the interview it seems to be pretty much accepted among Down folk that he will be back in Australia after this season.

Is this article legit?  No links and the OP seems to like writing his own reports from time to time.

Can't believe RTE not showing Casey's fight, remember this is the same "world" title Dunne won and there was a lot of hulabaloo for that.  He's arrived at this stage a lot sooner than Dunne as well so he deserves the fight to have his fight televised.  Also it's on the same day as Ireland v England in the rugger, two days after St Patricks Day, and would get a good audience between people watching at home or in the pub.

Atticus I think your tweets to Khan must have goaded him into upping his offer.
