General discussion / Re: Peoples Accents
January 13, 2009, 01:23:51 PM
Theres a few different Dublin accents though, for example its hard to compare the d4 accent with the "stooooooory bud" accent.
Both are poxy though.

Being from the north county, I would regard myself as having the most normal of the Dublin accents  ;)

Something that I think is very sporting about the GAA is on the occasions where a losing manager and/or captain goes into the winning dressing room to congratulate them and wish them well.

Would fully agree, though I'm sure it happens in other sports too.

Takes a lot for a manager who has just been knocked from the championship they have trained all year for, and who is obviously sick, to suck it up and wish the opposition well.

Was it Sean Boylan who was shown doing this in the Dubs dressing room after the game in 2005? It was on that documentary following the Dubs for the season, the one with the ice baths etc.

Was impressed by Boylan, full of grace in defeat.

Letting Brush Shields on to represent Dublin was an embarrasment. FFS he even admitted he never goes to games anymore.
Cringed all the way through it.

Ive just tuned in, eh why do Dub fans think they're pproly treated by the GAA? Thats an honest question now.

In regards to this topic, the vast majority dont Sligoper. Its only a tiny few who have an issue with it.
And the players or management have never voiced a complaint about it either.

I do hope they cut the dubs championship alocation to spite  the walkout fans.

From what I hear the allocation will be cut by 2 tickets in that case  ;D ;D ;D

Abortion is not 'killing a child' - its an emotive way of putting it and most unheplful and not in any way accurate. It is the removal of a clump of cells that will probably develop into a foetus.

removal of a clump of cells / killing a child, word it how you want.

By your logic cracking one off the wrist is 'killing a child'.

A lot of mass murderers on here so  :D

But seriously, thats just silly. Sperm doesnt develop into a child. Your "clump of cells" does.

Do you agree with my point that promiscuous people who get themselves pregnant but couldnt be arsed raising a child shouldnt be allowed an abortion?

I suppose calling the child a clump of cells makes your argument easier, but remember, you yourself are just a big clump of cells.

thankfully the secular movement has marginalised bullies, cranks and nutters like POG.

Jaysus thats a bit OTT there. Lets keep it civilised.

Abortion is a tricky topic to approach, obviously there are extreme cases where people have been raped by family members etc. But I would be very much against legalising it full stop. Like it or not, there are some people out there who would have an abortion as they were promiscuous and just dont want the hassle of having a baby. While some situations are difficult many arent, and to kill a child because you just couldnt be arsed minding a baby having slept around is just plain wrong.

An individuals right to choose what actions they take would be a good way to put it were there not another indivual whose life could be ended by that decision.

The scary thing is that there are many selfish women who sleep around, couldnt be arsed with a baby, so have an abortion. As much as you may argue that some cases merit abortion, it can also be argued that many abortions cannot be justified.

The bannings aside, the bigotry of the mods and the sinister actions in posting personal details and calling to "confront" posters at their place of work then boasting about it afterwards are all undeniable facts.

I'm sure the decent NI football fans would secretly prefer decent mods running their site who dont encourage like minded folk to sign up.

Its the mods who set the tone for the site really. If one mod is going around calling GAA scum and another is calling the GAA a racist organisation, you are clearly going to attract a particular type of poster.

Its a pity really, as there are a few decent posters there who are willing to discuss issues in a mannerly fashion no matter what your background.

Their past record of posting peoples personal info and going to confront posters in person at work over their views on a website is whats really sinister.
Did you have to give a work e-mail address, or anything that might help them reveal your identity Jim?

Mutual acquaintences and the ability to answer a few questions about the club committee and the like.

But sure you dont need to be a member to know who does what on the local clubs committee  :-\

By mutual acquaintences I presume you gave your real identity to some posters?

Maybe the same posters can back this up and silence the doubters.

this despite the fact I have 'proven' myself as a member of the Association to posters on here before.

Just curious Dublinfella, how did you do this without giving away your identity?
I cant think how even I could "prove" myself to be a GAA member on here without giving away personal details.

Enjoy the game holiness, try and open your mind sometimes to other people's opinions, thats called democracy

FFS Indiana, of course you are entitled to your opinions. I was just correcting Tankies post which indicated your views were that of most Dubs. He is entitled to his views but NOT to claim them to be the views of Dublin people in general.

Quote from: INDIANA on January 02, 2009, 02:07:26 PM
But having read you views on politics, I shouldn't have been surprised.

::)

Not that it has anything to do with this thread, but if you have any problems with my views on politics, why not address them in the relevant thread rather than vague comments like that.

stick it up your ass holiness, we're entitled to our views the same as you. You don't own monopoly of opinion here, even if you think you do.

Classy Indiana  ::)

Everybody is entitled to their views, but not to tell people what the views of others are, when they really have no idea.

I replied to Tankies posts which suggested "Dublin people want to boycott this game".
I merely pointed out that this is not strictly true as the majority are happy with the game.

Forgive me for daring to say Tankie doesnt speak for me on this issue.

*also, why did you change from "stick it up your ass" to "stick it where the sun dont shine" ??
The same thing surely??  :-X

you do not see why Dublin people want to boycott this game

Just to clarify to all, its a tiny minority of Dubs who are boycotting this game.

Listening to Tankie and co you would be forgiven for thinking all the Dubs are whingeing about this game.
The manager isnt, the players arent, and the majority of the fans arent.

So Tankie and co, dont be pretending, like you did above, to represent the views of Dublin fans on this issue, because you dont.
