If a Friday night Allianz league game, say Donegal Galway, was being shown we all could relate more to it and most present enjoy all the more.

One game on a Friday, one chosen as an attractive fixture for neutrals, could set off the weekend leagues and give the Saturday papers a game to get their teeth into rather than another half arsed page of fixtures and predictions.

It would struggle to get through as the players would have to take a day off work more than likely. Thee supporters may give out about a Friday night game too. It is true that midweek underage or preseason games can be very successful, however. 8,000 attended a midweek minor hurling game in Cork last year. I dont think the GPA would be for it though and cant see it happening anytime soon.

What if the league winner in Div 2/3/4 of the National Football Leagues were promoted outright without a final? The second place and third place teams play in a playoff final in a neutral venue to aid provincial towns. The winner would be promoted. There would be more to play for in the final rounds of the leagues as a third-place team could still get promoted. These games would possibly take greater importance than championship games. A money spinner for the GAA as well and I think neutrals would actually want to watch these games.
For example, the 2nd/3rd place playoff could look something like this

Meath v Roscommon in Tullamore Div 2 playoff final
Westmeath v Armagh in Breffni Park Div 3 playoff final
Laois v Carlow in Newbridge  Div 4 playoff final

Big crowds in provincial towns for an important winner take all games. The current Div. 2/3/4 finals are pretty meaningless and currently attract very small attendances.

General discussion / Derry/Londonderry
January 30, 2018, 12:00:38 AM
A BBC Radio Ulster News report last night gave a Derry GAA result as Londonderry. Just felt it was obvious antagonization of the nationalists of Derry. Everybody interested in a GAA result would refer to Derry as "Derry". No need to call it anything else. What are yer thoughts on this? Am I reading too much into it?

26000 for the double header in Croke park, poor enough and if I recall correctly 4 or 5 years ago Dublin league games would easily surpass 40000.
In fairness it was Kildare and Offaly in January and it's still a decent enough crowd. See what crowd Dublin v Kerry in March gets before making judgements. The Cork doubleheader in Pairc ui Chaoimh attracted 16,189 tonight.

With David Clifford starting for Kerry on Sunday I'd guess the attendance in Killarney could be a lot bigger than expected

Croke Park premium and corporate tickets are sold with the commitment that all AIQF onwards are played in CP. Maybe football league finals are the same?

Well with the Super 8's there will be a minimum of 7/12 quarterfinal type games outside Croke Park and in smaller provincial sized grounds

Offaly against Dublin in Croke Park should a good game to launch the  2018 leagues with.
With Dublin very much experimenting, I'd be expecting Offaly to give them a good rattle.

Would love to see Offaly win it.
