Lads/Lassies,

Anybody know whether you can source these any more, never heard of anymore after the 2006 promotion?
Broke my last one recently and want to get another one if possible.

Yep that right Cork last team to do the double, Galway came close in 1998 winning the football, but losing the All Ireland Hurling final, I remember as Alan Kerins was the dual player on both and it was mentioned about Teddy McCarthy and his feats.

Match report from today's Examiner. Next up Limerick face UCC in Kilmallock this Sunday with the winners to face UL/LIT.

Limerick 0-18 Wexford 0-18
By Fintan O'Toole

Monday, January 18, 2010

OFF the field, the raging inferno that is the Limerick hurling crisis burns on, yet between the white lines Justin McCarthy is attempting to plough on with the preparation work for the 2010 season.

Saturday afternoon in Mallow was the first port of call with Wexford providing the opposition in the low-key setting of a challenge match.

McCarthy's decision to wield the axe to his panel last October and the subsequent deluge of withdrawals have decimated Limerick's squad and only two of last year's championship panel, Brian O'Sullivan and Paudie McNamara, started this match.

Thus McCarthy had assembled a team dominated by novices and he'll have been heartened by their battling qualities to grind out a draw in the finish as they pegged back Wexford with two late points to force a draw.

But the result came with a couple of caveats. Technically Wexford should have won with Stephen Banville having a perfectly good point waved wide by the umpires and Colm Bonnar was in an experimental mood. Only three of Saturday's Wexford side started when the counties met in the All-Ireland qualifiers last June, with established players Diarmuid Lyng and Keith Rossiter sprung from the bench during the second-half.

"I'm pleased we got a game there today and all the lads got a run-out," said McCarthy. "I was delighted with the support we got as well and the effort in particular. It was typical Limerick hurling today, which was very important, and they gave their all, they were together today for the first time. I was very pleased with the spirit shown to come back, it was very good."

Bonnar regarded the game as a useful workout, regardless of his opponent's travails over the winter.

"It was a good match for us. We're very much experimenting with a trial panel, so we're delighted to have got a game and started off."

Limerick's defence was largely solid with full-back Des Kenny and Kieran O'Rourke both impressing. Half-back Lorcan O'Dwyer, who operated last year on Mickey Ned O'Sullivan's county football panel, turned in a fine hour while wing-forward Cathal Mullane hit three lovely points. The star turn was wing-forward Tommy O'Brien, who showed a innate ability to notch points from play and frees.

O'Brien was one of six Limerick players to see action who featured for the county U21's last summer, with Nicky Quaid, son of former goalkeeping great Tommy, at midfield.

Adare goalkeeper Timmy Houlihan did not line out nor did former Kerry netminder Tadhg Flynn, while South Liberties involvement in Sunday's All-Ireland IHC semi-final robbed Limerick of other personnel options.

McCarthy's squad is predominantly a youthful one and he seemed encouraged by their spirit and feistiness.

But he'll be aware that the standards will be raised considerably in the weeks ahead.

GAA members wanted for new RTE Gameshow
09/09/2008

Vision Independent Productions are currently making a new entertainment show for RTE television and are hoping to get GAA clubs all around the world involved.

The show will be an interactive gameshow that will use Skype technology, so people can take part from anywhere in the world. The idea behind the show is that people will be connected to the studio via Skype, and can win themselves 1,000 euro by answering a general knowledge question and completing one challenge.

The show will be filmed towards the end of September and will air on Sunday nights on RTE 1 in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

We are hoping to have some rounds in the show themed, and would love to have some GAA rounds where contestants in their county and club colours take part.

Details of the show can be found by clicking this linke SHOW DETAILS

A promo of the programme can be found at www.visionindependentproductions.com and clicking on the link for "next contestants".

We are hoping that as many members get involved with the show and think that having GAA people oversees taking part would be an extremely strong and emotive part of the show, as well as give people the chance to say hello to their families and friends in Ireland.

The only thing you need to be on the show is broadband internet and access to a web cam with software like skype. If members don't have skype but would like to take part, they can either contact the Vision Independent Productions Office on +353 1 861 4444, where a member of the team can talk them through the free process of downloading and using it. Alternatively Skype can be downloaded directly from HERE

We hope that as many of you as possible can join in and we look forward to seeing you online soon!

Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational Press Release
  03 October 2009
Ruairi Og, Cushendall Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational Press Release: 30 September 2009
Hurling... but not as you know it

Cubed fever hits Cushendall GAA Club

Monday 28th September 2009: Guinness®, an official sponsor of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, is bringing hurling off the pitch and into specially built 3D Perspex cubes again this Autumn. Building on from the success of last year's Guinness Hurling Cubed nationwide tournament, Guinness Hurling Cubed will make a welcome return to clubs across the four provinces next month.

Cushendall GAA Club has been selected as the first club to host a regional Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational Championship. The tournament will take place in Cushendall GAA grounds over two days, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October. The Cushendall Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational will be followed by similar events in Dunboyne GAA Club, Meath; Carlow IT; and Ahane GAA Club in Limerick during the month of October.

Developed last year by Guinness, with expert guidance from former Cork Manager Donal O'Grady, Guinness Hurling Cubed is a fast paced and exciting derivative of hurling and has been described as an innovative and fun variation of the real thing by many of those who have played the game, whilst working on particular skills that benefit players in the real 15-a-side game.

The rules of the game are simple; teams of three players compete for either three minutes, or until three goals are scored. The game is played with 21" Hurleys and a soft touch sliotar and all within the confines of a Perspex Cube, which is 15m long x 10 m wide x 4 m high.

Cushendall will host the first Cubed tournament for clubs throughout Antrim and Ulster over Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd October. For this weekend tournament, a maximum of 36 teams can take part in the Invitational Championship, and Guinness is currently working with Cushendall to invite local clubs to take part.

Each club that is invited by Cushendall will field a number of teams, and these teams will go on to compete in the Invitational Championship on the Friday evening, Saturday morning or Saturday evening session. Following on from these sessions, the winning teams will qualify for a final knock-out tournament, to be played on the Saturday evening.
The eventual winners will be crowned as champions of the Cushendall Guinness Hurling Cubed Invitational Championship 2009 and Guinness will donate €1000 to the winning team's GAA club. After the final, Guinness will also host a post-tournament presentation event in the Cushendall GAA Club House. The Cube will also be donated to Cushendall by Guinness and can be used for similar tournaments, training and fundraising initiatives in the future

A new thread is worthy for this semi final pairing,

Everybody will be expecting Tipperary to produce the goods and beat Limerick in this match and really give Kilkenny a game in the final. I suspect alot of people will want to see tipp win on this basis.

However I believe Limerick will give Tipp one hell of a game, as historically there is very little between these two counties. Been Limerick bias and been brought up a mile from the Tipp border this is a game that I think limerick can win. It could be similiar to 2006 where Limerick were not suppose to beat Waterford.

An added bonus for Limerick is that it looks like both the Moran brother Ollie and Niall will be back and in contention for a place on the team. Which is been named tonight I believe.
Another significant advantage is the management on the line, McCarthy is alot more astute than Sheehy and in a close game this could swing it for Limerick.
Limerick haven't being hurling super all year and have one big performance in them, Scraping over Wexford, Laois and Dublin.
The final thing is Tipp haven't been playing aswell as the previous year and have only been hurling in patches,

All these things I think will help make Limerick more competitive and wont be over run  by Tipp as some suspect.

Looking forward to the game.
