General discussion / Re: Ulster Workers Strike 2024

English papers reporting that part of the "deal" is the renaming of the Green Lane as the "UK Internal Lane"  Is this what the DUP were holding out for?  It's gone beyond a joke.

If the DUP don't go back soon I think Stormont is finished.

Very little of the promised money is actually "new".  It's a con job by the Tories.

Antrim's Cathy Carey has announced her inter-county retirement.  Still only 33, she has played senior for 20 years!

Quote from: Snapchap on November 24, 2023, 11:35:34 AMHave the GAA come out and apologised for last nights violence yet? Asking for a friend.

It didn't happen in Tyrone, so probably not.

Didn't hear that particular interview but to be fair to the BBC I think their coverage has been quite good.  Victoria Derbyshire sitting in for Kuenssberg yesterday completely filleted that charlatan David Lammy.  He basically admitted he wouldn't criticise Israel as he wanted to be the next Foreign Minister in the UK.

One thing this crisis has shown is that Twitter is not a place to go to for news, discussion or any sort of nuance!

Yer man Jason Byrne seems to be a regular on LLS.  My dog is funnier.  I think Kielty is doing OK as a host.  The guests are shite.

The British Labour party, knowing the right wing press in London are ready to pounce, are tying themselves in knots.

Superb game of rugby from start to finish last night.  Fine margins at this level as the cliche goes.  Charged down conversion (Kolbe must have started on the 22!) proved significant.  SA must be favourites but NZ are cute hoors.  The standard in the other two quarters looked well below the two big ones.  If SA play the way they did last night they'll put 40 points on Eng.

NZ by 4 was a fair result.  They were slightly the better team. Small point, but part of me did worry seeing players carrying babies around the pitch after the Scotland game like Ireland had won something.  Other point, I thought Barnes reffed it well.

Hamann not holding back on TV. He's right. Players just not good enough and Kenny totally out of his depth. Ferguson is obviously useful with good players around him at Brighton.

Quote from: markl121 on October 13, 2023, 10:18:50 AMI have noticed a bit of a media backtrack the last couple of days, with a more balanced opinion being shown. Maybe they have realised how this will look after the israelis kill thousands.

Yes, I noticed this too.  Now that the Hamas attack is largely over, the focus is slowly moving to the Israeli attack which is ongoing.  Sky carried a 15 min interview with Humza Yousaf's wife, who is Palestinian, and whose parents are trapped in Gaza having gone to visit a sick family member.

Quote from: quit yo jibbajabba on October 12, 2023, 06:10:27 PMPub bore agree. Maybe it's an age thing (with myself)

On a slightly different vein - what about our own National Anthem?! Don't shoot me please and I mean mainly for the Gaa but it's played at so many matches that to me it's lost it's effect. For me if it was say finals only I feel it would help. As above, maybe an age thing

*Runs for cover*

All Ireland final day played by the Artane Boys band only can't be beat. Sung on nearly every other occasion by the local Scor winner no thanks. They turn it into a boring ballad type song not the rousing rendition it should be.

Agree about the National Anthem.  Played too much.  League, Provincial and AI Finals would be enough.  Those singers who turn a military march into some sort of Mariah Carey tribute need a severe talking to.
