Laois / Re: Laois Junior Football Championship

Its something that I've been saying for years. totally unfair system. We have it completely backwards. We have the Junior C and B football starting first, followed by Junior A and Intermediate and last is the senior. Thats just plain wrong and only benefits the bigger clubs.

OTF your misunderstanding me, i'm not saying ignore the club nominations. what i'm saying is why limit the search for the best possible candidate. take those nominations and also put the feelers out to see if outside candidates would be available.

It will be interesting to see who is on the selection committe. I hope they have free rein to approach names above and beyond those candidates put forward by the clubs.

Very interesting Merman. I would agree with you about having the permission to go outside the candidates put forward if it ensures we get the best person possible because to be honest i'm not sure how serious the clubs take the nomination process.

Mountmellick v Portarlington - Port have all the momentum behind them but its worth remembering that Mountmellick won this fixture last year. Mountmellick by 1
Emo v The Heath.- Emo without Costello will struggle for scores, The Heath with or without Daithi Carroll should have enough. The Heath by 4
Ballylinan v Killeen- Killeen missing a few including shane julian, should out shoot Ballylinan here. Killeen by 5
Ballyfin v St. Josephs- Josephs will be out to prove a point and if Ballyfin weather the early storm they could cause a shock. Goals win games and Ballyfin are capable of getting them. Ballyfin by 2
Crettyard v Ballyroan- tough one to call. id give a tentative nod to Ballyroan but wouldnt be surprised if a replay was needed.
Killeshin v O'Dempseys- O Dempseys and Killeshin have had opposite league campaigns really and i cant see a swing in form. O Dempseys by 7
Portlaoise v Stradbally- Stradballys ever ageing forward line wont have enough to sweat the town. Portlaoise by 5
Arles v Graiguecullen- this could be the game of the first round, Meaney vs Hand and Timmons vs Munnelly/Conway are as good a dual as you may see. Graigue prob have the better panel overall. Graigue by 1

Jack Sheedy has stepped down as Longford football manager. Sheedy with Sean Dempsey as coach?
already worked together and did a decent job with a limited longford side.

Park Ratheniska relegated to Division 3 here. they seem to be struggling after last years relegation to Junior A. Semi final line up looks tasty enough. Ballyroan V Timahoe (the Clancy factor  ;D) and O Dempseys V Annanough or Ballylinan.

Lillis isnt the answer anyhow. Maybe its finally time for Pat Roe  ;D
On a serious note i wouldn't mind Joe Higgins stepping up if he had an experienced hand alongside him. Done some time with 2 big clubs in arles killen and graigue. maybe alongside Sean Dempsey or Pat Ryan.
Another name from within the county, former county player Derek Conroy, he is with Mountmellick and the Laois under 21's

Anyone got a shovel to scrape me back off the floor. This was a sad day for Laois football. I think this tops the defeat to louth a couple of years ago. All credit to antrim but we just got beaten by a poor division 4 side at Home, a side which was beaten 1-13 to 8 points  by fermanagh. and they were short 2 of their best forwards from that game today!
5-33 we have conceded in our last 2 games, for the love of god thats a cricket score. we played a sweeper again a blind man could see this didnt work. begley was taken completely out of the game as a result. we let them kick most of their kick outs short. a criminal act
The writing was on the wall in this game for the last half an hour of play. I don't know which was more depressing the fact that the manager did nothing to address the situation or the fact that when i looked at the bench we are miles away in terms of strength in depth

What changes do you expect to see to the starting 15? I can't see Shiels starting ahead of Paul/Meredith. With Donie on the 45 we had no size in front of goal and the ball going into Ross and Shiels didn't suit them. Also Boyle at 11 is questionable, in fairness to him, he's not a forward plain and simple.
We should have seen the game out but we went into a sit back and hope formation in the last 7-8 minutes. its slight advantage kildare now after the draw. id expect them to start with niall kelly and definitely moolick the next day. From our own side i would throw in hanrahan at corner back, attride had a problem with smith and hanrahan may be better equipped physically for that challenge. shiels is probably more of an impact sub, paul kingston will start in the corner saturday.
the one thing that was obvious on saturday was our lack of strength in depth. when the game needed fresh legs we had very little options.

I think you could pick  holes in most of the Laois Panel if your good enough your old enough.  He is a tough I would have no fears there.

It's not his age though. It's his size. He's a very light lad. I'd give him time.
Undoubtedly has the talent but i wouldnt be rushing him in either, let him train with the extended panel maybe. There is no doubt in my mind he will be a gem of a player for us in years to come but look what happened to donie brennan.
I dont think he ever met his maximum potential at senior county level as a result of being rushed in.

Strange to go from a started last year to outside the 20 used against carlow alright. surely should have been used from the bench instead of sheehan.
Annanough look to be going well. they look to be well placed to challenging timahoe in the Intermediate.

Laoisgaa.ie needs to be tidied up. Putting in The Heath/An Fraoch Mor or duplicating teams like Clonaslee and Clonaslee St Manmans shoudn't be happening.

Just a reflection on the level of competence shown by the CB, I suppose.

Looks like they heard you dave. she is all new and shiny!  :D

Impressed with the bottle our lads showed this evening. To be leading all game and get pegged back to level after their goal and then hit straight back with a goal of our own was impressive. Cathal Dunne from ballylinan and Shane Smyth from portlaoise look like good prospects. Sean Moore is a county star in the making. what an instinct for goal

Lets hope we see the same Galway that we came up against last Year in Portlaoise. i'd agree with Teo Lurley, kehoe will probably move to corner back with mcmahon to the wing half back spot pushing Boyle to the centre. Impressed with Hanrahan so far in the league.
Tom Flynn and Shane Walsh are out for Galway and i fancy us to put in a right performance.
