Haven't got hold of it yet, but it looks decent, and honest, from this excerpt about the aftermath of 1992 and his retirement:

https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/alcohol-abuse-depression-and-loss-of-marriage-how-winning-all-ireland-threatened-to-engulf-donegal-captain-42103873.html

Thanks for sharing that J70 - I hadn't seen it. It seems well-written and (as you say) honest).

Typical Donegal, both should be thrown out and banned for life. Only 5 points scored in 59 minutes? Disgraceful.

On a serious note, hope the lad is ok. U21's can be a funny age. Melees would have been the standard for 90% of games I ever watched or played in at that age level.

So in 10 games you've watched or played in at that level there was 9 melee's? Christ that's wild, there's the odd dust up here and there but if they are anything like what was reported above at that ratio then there's is something wrong in Armagh
Well maybe 90% is abit exaggerated and a lot were more pushing and shoving than melees lol but it's that age where a lot of lads maybe try and act the hard fella abit more. Just my experience.

Under 16 was the age group (from refereeing) was the most difficult, you really needed to apply a different set of tolerances to fouls, they take it very personal at that age

Interesting. I took an U15 team for the first time this year and I noticed this exact thing. So much pride to get bruised!
Saw plenty of U15 games in Armagh last year. Mostly i thought the refs allowed kids with the ball to be battered too often with not enough done to curtail closed fist tackles.  Reactions from the victims were plentiful.

D Championship semifinal ... about 5 minutes in, the ref loudly shouts ... "as lads it's only U15's, it doesn't really matter"  ;D ;D.
Talk about a red rag to a bull.

Gutted to hear this, but time and tide ...

The football is only one part of this man. Always a gentleman, with time for all supporters and kids. Turned down a chance to go to Oz because of his genuine love for the area he's from. Modest and unassuming. Took his position as a role-model for others very seriously, while never taking himself too seriously.

A Donegal great, who happened to be pretty good at football as well.

Are clubs still using whatsapp for communication. Are there any othersafe app you can use for interaction

We use the app Heja for sending out training and matches. It's pretty decent

Yeah, I started using Heja this year. Worked pretty well.

So Steelstown were informed in advance that the 3G pitch was the back-up venue? But obviously didn't think to pack boots for that eventuality?

These cases are always complex.

The 'threepeat' is still on.  :)

Quarter final lineup.
Westport v Garrymore
Ballina v Claremorris
Breaffy v Ballintubber
Castlebar v Knockmore.

Castlebar v Knockmore is a repeat of the league final played earlier in the year which the Mitchels won by a point after extra time. Another great game awaits next weekend. Breaffy and Ballintubber should be a right battle too, neighbourly rivalry aside. Very hard to call it. Unsure if Cillian is at full strength. (Could be wrong and Tubberman might correct me). I reckon Westport should have just about enough to beat Garrymore. They didnt have it all their own way today against Mayo Gaels, only won by three points. Garrymore got out of their group with one win and two draws. Ballina are motoring along nicely. After their initial hiccup (last minute goal to salvage a draw for Ballaghaderreen in the first group game) they have come on leaps and bounds since then and will be firm favourites to beat Claremorris, who the Ballina manager knows well having managed them previously.

Edit: I know nobody reads this thread anymore but for those who do...it's a bit of an insight as to what to expect next weekend.

At least one person reads it :)

A good weekend of football.

Fine recently. If I were you , I'd aim to be in the airport for 9am. Note that I don't shop/browse, so add time for that if you plan to.

Technology is changing all the time and jobs will become easier to do with less manpower..

I was speaking to the shop assistant the other day and the place has brought in 4 self scanning machines, I was curious to know if they had let people go as they don't need to really serve people anymore, nope, gives them more time to stack shelves and do all the other crap they had to do on top of serving..

Be difficult enough to lose your job for the council I'm sure with that binman job they'll shift him to another sector within the council

Will we see a lot of places (public sector) going on strike action? seems to be a trend
I don't buy the Retail example for a second, the staff that were working on tills are redeployed to other duties surely but when ANY member of staff leaves down the line they are not replaced and the 2.5 till operator staff that was built into overall staff compliment disappears over time and the shop eventually operates with 2.5 fewer people. Self scanners are & will do away with jobs, may take a bit of time but it's a long term play. If I was a small business owner I'd call it progress but if I was a TU Rep I wouldn't.

Public Sector strikes can be headed off with decent pay rises, I doubt anyone is genuinely expecting an 8-10% pay rise but Government has to meet the Public Sector half way in the current circumstances.

It's not the government who pays for these pay increases. It's non PS tax payers who do. More money for the PS means less money for private sector workers.
This post makes little or no sense. Firstly all Public Sector workers are Tax Payers, Tax payers money is managed by the Government, so it's generally their call on pay awards. Private Sector workers are not paid by the Government.

Really ... it makes no sense? PS workers do not make a net contribution to the tax take (the givernment pay them money and then they give some back to the government). I agree that tax payers money is managed by the government (that's what we elect them to do), and also agree that we expect the  givernment to manage pay awards to the PS. I also agree that private sector workers are not paid by the government.

So with all that said, my 2 points remain:

  • It's not the government who pays for these pay increases. It's non PS tax payers who do.
  • More money for the PS means less money for private sector workers.

Congrats Armagh - best of luck for the rest of the year. Youse are playing great football at the moment.
We got a real hiding today - it just hasn't clicked for this group of players/management over the last few years and change is probably necessary, and not just on the sideline.
