The problem we're all in Div 3 lads is we're inconsistent. Potentially on our day we're all capable of beating each other but then go out next week and get beat, Div 1 & 2 teams do it week in week out.
Was really surprised that Armagh was as comfortable as they did as i expected a lot tougher game than that, I'm so glad we have Longford at home as they're usually very hard to beat in Longford.

Fermanagh are moving along nicely too, will be hard to beat.

Whilst we (Fermanagh) have won both games, we haven't really been going that well. We have been lucky to get the supposed 2 weakest teams in the Division so far. Our attitude and workrate have been first class but our standard of play has been relatively poor.  We've benefitted from some really soft goals and have also given away some really soft goals.  Brewster Park is a real slog at the moment which doesn't help, it'll be nice to get away from it this weekend.  Hopefully our attacking play and ability to move the ball forward can improve; our starting forwards have only scored 0-6 in 2 games (excluding those goals.)

Which VPN did you yet Gs?

I am on BT and also use Sportsmania. I've found it more difficult to find a good stream, but I've always found one. Definitely not as good as last year as you have to search around a bit more, but I still always get a good stream.

I am in the North btw.

I unfortunately missed the match due to family commitments, so I can't comment on the specifics of this Ref's performance. What I have witnessed from Armagh in league and championship is a tendency for some players to do incredibly stupid things, whether it is late hits, slapping the ball away after a free is given and in the case of some individuals poor tackling. What has frustrated me as a spectator though is a lack of consistency from Ref's. What is given as a free at one end isn't at the other. In Jamie Clarke we have a very gifted footballer, but in the games I've seen him play he has been frustrated by a lack of protection from Ref's and has been on the wrong end of poor decisions. Against Fermanagh James Morgan made at least 3 tackles and similarly against Down where he clearly played the ball away but because he was behind the man a free was blown for absolutely no reason. My point is if you are going to let play go as happens in hurling then do so consistently. I have a perception that Armagh are hard done my, but that is personal bias. No harm to LS you can not be entirely neutral it is not in human nature. On the black card it was introduced as a reaction to the outcry after Kavanagh's cynical foul on McManus. The problem seems to be the scope has widened and no one including myself seems to be clear on application. It should be simplified to any foul play that denies a goal scoring opportunity that warrants a yellow as opposed to red card. Other cynical fouls should be yellows.

James Morgan did not play against Fermanagh (to further continue the nit picking.)

I agree with the sentiment that there is little consistency in refereeing, however I do feel the overarching problem is no clearly defined tackle thus leaving it a very difficult rule to implement. What may seem like "the same incident" usually has some nuance which makes it slightly different. Each decision has to be made on it's own merits, even if I do feel referees should try to blow less (a bit of a contradiction I know.)

Finally, against Fermanagh Jamie needed no protection whasoever. In fact when making runs he tended to initially instigate contact with his man in order to create space for himself to get in front. I was a bit disappointed in our defender who allowed it to happen so often.

When in Video and then Add-ons, is there an option listed 'Get more...'?  If so, click it and hopefully Sportsmania will be listed there. Enable it from there.

The average AFL recruit, at a similar age to Walsh, Dyas & Clarke would have had years of playing the game, which is played over a longer period, over a bigger pitch, with bigger hits and more running.
The Irish lads are going in (at least they used to) with a much lower training age, and are thrown in at the deep end from a physical perspective.
Brendan Murphy was rated a great prospect for the Sydney Swans but he was also badly affected by injuries in the end.
I get what Il Bomber Destro is saying here, but at the same time a much simpler and equally, if not more, likely cause of these injuries would be lads having to adapt to a training & playing load that their bodies can't handle, given that they're moving from an amateur environment in gaelic football to a professional environment in aussie rules.
Two completely different sports, with different physical demands.

It is a good point Jinxy, and worth as much consideration as the sexier steroid angle

In case it has not been mentioned,  there is a strong connection with muscle tearing off the bone in athletes who don't take steroids.

Why is it not a common injury in GAA?

Another example of where you are trying to link an injury incurred in one sport, with the prevalence of that injury in a completely different sport.

I do not doubt there is a doping problem in AFL. However you have shown a correlation between 2 factors and are trying to create causation. There are a multitude of other factors involved here, which you seemingly ignore. For example, how prevalent is the injury itself in AFL?  Assuming you are correct that steroid use increases risk of this injury, by how much? Are players transferring from another sport, into a professional sport, with higher training loads and increased physicality, at a greater risk?

You have not created a logical conclusion. You have created speculation.

As I have made clear from the outset, I have made no comment other than the injuries ailment suffered by GAA players while playing in the AFL have an extremely low occurrence in GAA. These injuries/ailments also have a much higher association withanabolic steroids. Couple this with the fact that there seems to be a systematic doping culture in AFL then you can draw logical conclusions.

How much the players are/were actually aware of this potential abuse is something I know nothing about and will not make comment on. It's more a comment explaining why such serious and uncommon sports  injuries may have occurred.

These types of injuries will always raise question marks.

Your logical conclusion is entirely flawed because you are associating the incidence of an injury incurred in the AFL, with their prevalence in the GAA.

Yes. New rules only came into effect this year pre inter county Championship.

To clarify the cards issue and extra time;

Old Rule - A team returns to 15 players in extra time but cards carry over.

New Rule - A team returns to 15 players in extra time but cards are wiped clean.

The original rule didn't make sense but I always felt the correct change to make was to allow cards to carry over but to change the ruling on teams returning to 15 players. In other words, let all cards from the 60 minutes carry over into extra time, including players sent off.

What then is the rule for noting/tickings from normal time to extra time, do they carry over or not ?

Clean slate for extra time.

Rossies by 5 or 6. Can't believe the hype around Fermanagh. People saying they're "going well" and they're "on a good run". They've beaten Antrim twice. That's it! id say they'll get a rude awakening today

Very astute 😘

Seems like CK got the rude awakening  ;D

Paddy Cunningham is the worst of the lot IMO. He over-carries when taking a bloody free!

Another thing that gets me when watching a game as a neutral is when a fella gets fouled on his third or fourth step, ref allows him to over carry then he gets fouled on his seventh or eight step does he blow him up, blow the defender up let him continue on to 12 steps? Does a foul count as a bounce in these scenarios or should he bounce immediately after he is not being fouled anymore? If so can he have to consecutive fouls? etc etc.. to  To call it a grey area would be very generous.
When watching the game as a supporter you are going equally ballistic in this scenario depending on whether you are supporter of the defenders or of the attacker

Start blowing it up I say and the players will come back into line

ON the other hand I actually think I may have a solution from the Indian support Kabaddi where the players hold their breath (or doesn't breath in at least) when in play and chants and if they stop chanting the ref blows them up. We could do the same thing, when your in possession you have to chant your teams name over and over again and when you stop its a free out.

Sounds like you'd be short of breath pretty quickly due to whatever you are smoking!

Fermanagh have been very impressive this year.
No goals conceded this year in the league and are very fit.

Think it will be tight

I've been very happy with the results so far, but I wouldn't quite say we have been very impressive.  We have definitely tightened up at the back, but we are yet to face a real test.  There is plenty of scope for improvement, and it will be needed this weekend.  The likes of Shields running in off the FF line will be something that our half backs have not faced yet.  Some of our build up play through hand was excellent against Tipp, but there was also a period in the first half where we struggled to get the ball out of our own half and got turned over in precarious places.  Armagh will be stronger again in the tackle so it will be interesting to see if we can continue to break with such pace.

We've scored 0-16, 0-13 and 2-9 against sides who didn't play particularly defensively, also whilst having a larger portion of possession.  Against a defensive Armagh what can we expect? I think we'll be closer to 10 scores, and we'll probably need 1 if not 2 goals to win.  Can we keep Armagh below 12 points?  I think it would be a fair achievement.  Whilst I think we are capable of winning, I think it is more probable for Armagh to win by a few.

The Irish News done probable line ups in the paper yesterday and the potential contest between the Antrim HF line (Conor Murray, Niblock and Tomas McCann) and the Fermanagh HB line (McElroy, McCluskey and D McCusker) could go a long way to deciding the outcome.  As is the norm now though, we rarely get the 1 v 1 contests of old.  All the same, I expect as open and high scoring of contest as we will see all year in Ulster.  McGrath didn't change his ways when faced with a potent Roscommon attack in Brewster, and I can't see him doing it now for a team with less attacking quality than Roscommon (whilst McCluskey might try to provide some cover, he won't sit.)  Mark Sweeney might perform a similar role for Antrim, but given our porous nature at the back during the league I'd expect Antrim to play an attacking brand of football as well (as seemed to be the case during their league campaign?)

Getting Sean Quigley back into the fold was key for us, Barry Owens was only a stop gap full forward in reality.  He can, and I believe will, be the difference for Fermanagh.  Provided we don't concede a glut of goals that is (I have bad visions of Tomas McCann blazing straight down the heart of our defence.)
