At the time of the substitution I thought we need a midfielder, we weren't winning any clean ball and Kearney was anonymous. I thought Ross was going to bring on Jackie Lynch, but he took off Hanna who had just scored and brought on Aidan. On the subject of Aidan I would prefer to see him playing as a half forward. Thought Paul Murphy had a bad game yesterday, I would prefer to see him on the wing, with McKernan as a centre half back. Cannot believe that we lost that game, it was there for the taking and we had more than enough chances to win it, but we over complicated things too many times and took too much out of the ball. Also think Coulter was pulled back when Sextons shot was blocked, a stone wall penalty in my eyes.

I got two new sky cards in the post last week, apparently it was some sort of update. I still have the old cards and I just checked them and they are still working. Yours foc if you want them.

Down had never lost to Fermanagh in the USFC,

Down lost to Fermanagh in the first round of the Ulster championship in 1982.

I see the point you are trying to make, but I don't see it as logical.
Gooch has been dire all year, Donaghy has been on the treatment bench more than he has been on the field, Dooher likewise. Cavanagh has been very off colour and moved to midfield (I think) and O`Neill could throw the dolly out of the pram at anytime and go off in another huff. In saying that he has been good all year, without ever reaching his best.
I cannot comment on Coulter this year as I haven't seen a championship game yet, tomorrow will be my first this year, but I heard he was back to his best last week and we will need him at that level tomorrow if we are to progress. I would have him in any "Ireland team", playing off Donaghy and alongside the Gooch, if they were all on form.
It is all hypothetical though.

If he is good enough to walk onto any team in Ireland then surely he is good enough to walk onto an Ireland team. Actually he does walk onto the Ireland International Rules team so that nullifies that argument.

On his day, Benny is the best forward in Ulster, if not Ireland. He has been involved with Down while they are going through a barren spell. Had he been around in the early 90s he would have walked onto the double All Ireland team. Hopefully we will see a rejuvenated Benny this weekend playing somewhere out near the half forward line. If I was in Ross Carr's shoes I would be playing him at centre half forward on a regular basis.
It has to be noted that Benny shines brightest when playing for Ireland, if he had better players around him regularly Down would be challenging for honours on a regular basis. Hopefully he will be back in Croke Park later in the year.

Has there been a marked improvement in Down since the Fermanagh game? I haven't been to any of the championship games this year, Saturday will be my first. Just wondering if we had been able to put that defeat behind us. Obviously it is hard to judge the team against London, but I am assuming the performance against Laois was better than what we had seen earlier in the season.
