Pure dirt to watch. A meaningless match and display to match.

Anyone see Fletcher with his hands on the ref tonight? Now if that had've been JT or our Ash it would've been some crying match!

Big difference, most people would assume that Fletcher is a decent character whereas if Terry or Cashley put their hands on the ref they are probably just trying to get into his panties.

For a gobshite that is actually funny  ;D  ;)

Keep putting that head up, SS, always good to read an informed opinion. This part in particular answers my earlier question about how he could get so deeply in the red:

Ryan seems to have run up huge loans from company where he just drew out the money and feck the consequences.

No different than someone losing the run of themselves with a new credit card. Well, apart from the scale obviously. As you say, one would hope his accountant would give him a slap but if your client insists on betting all their money on the Harlem Globetrotters losing, what can you do? (Make sure you get paid cash)
His accountant may well have given him sound financial advice, that's besides the point.

My question earlier was, is this type of thing allowed in Ireland under company law and company  tax regulations?
In other countries there are strong restrictions as to how much a director can take out on loan.

Company law dictates that if the loan is greater than 10% of the companys Net assets, then the auditor/accountant should report the director to the Office of the director of corporate enforcement (ODCE) who will then prosecute the director/company for the breach. Thats the short version.

Bingo

I take your point - but it's always dangerous claiming for home office costs cos if you go and sell the house the PPR CGT relief may be restricted by the percentage claim wellied in.

I always advise clients never to claim for home office costs.

I am sure we'll see the full set of accounts for Ryan's company 'leaked' at some stage .Revenue would have them as would his accountant. I'll exit, stage left, until then.

That would only apply if he rented his office, i meant more of a laptop, mobile office, should have cleared that. His abridged company accounts will be freely available from the CRO while Revenue would only have extracts from his accounts but i'm sure you know that  ;)

SS, I've dealt with dozens of Revenue Audits and the area of expenses or expenditure is the most grey area I've dealt with and the revenue officers themselves are very unsure of them. You can argue your case on the majority of stuff once you don't go over board eg claim a family holiday as travel,

As I said previously, it also depends what else was held by the company, as I'm sure it was an investment vehicle for properties as well and this would open up a whole other range of expenses applicable to the company.

I doubt 10k covered his accountants bill never mind his phone, home computer, office costs, motor expenses (Insurance, tax, repairs), agents fees, subscriptions, other travel etc etc.

What a mess that was on Saturday. Terrible yet again away from home.

I hope the owners live phone in on LFCTV today get an indication of the feeling of the fans on Roy. He is taking the club backways to the midtable position he seems to thrive in.

Time for a change asap and before January so the new man can get a player or two of his own choice.

Travel expenses probably not allowed in any shape or form as you need to travel from place of business to client from legitimate claim. Starting from home not allowed.

Ryan seems to have run up huge loans from company where he just drew out the money and feck the consequences. Revenue insist  that if a company loans money to a director it must pay over 20% tax immediately to Revenue that will be refunded when the loan is cleared. The Director is assesed for tax on the loan as if it was a salary - and taxed in the normal way.

I would beg to differ on this. Is he not just personally taxed for the BIK if he pays no interest on the loan? Also the bigger issue on the directors loan is the company law issue and if it breached the 10% rule.

I would also think that you are understating what expenses he could be putting through the company. It is very much open to interpetation in his business what would be business expenses and what else he had on the company eg property.

Gerrys Ryans case is a bad example of how to run such a company but if I was on that salary and could get paid as RTE do, I would take that option every time. You could even let the funds build up in the company, luiqadate the company and extract the funds at the lower CGT rate, that would be after paying the director a hefty redundancy and have a ball of money in a pension.

Same old shite away from home. Would torres please come out for second half considering he is up against Sol Campbell?

Stop stop stop! Dividends are not taxed at a different rate FFS! Employee directors with more than 15% shares dont get a paye credit so they pay more tax than a normal punter! Christ on a bike. All pub tax experts!

1830 of a paye credit in the greater scheme of these salaries is hardly material.

Indina, rte pay less but the company is now in control of how much tax they pay. It's normally the case that the company will heavily fund the stars pension, no tax paid by company or by the star. The actual salary taken by the star could be very modest. It's fairly basic tax stuff in fairness and anyone who thinks it's not for purpose of tax efficency is very niave.

Another load of shite. Do u think there is a separate tax code for RTE celebs? There isn't. If u want a discussion on the merits of forming a company as opposed to whatever then take it elsewhere in a new thread. My point here is that you and Lawnseed are talking shite if u think Gerry Ryan and other RTE celebs are riding Irish taxpayers. If they keep within the law, and I have no reason to suspect they don't, then they are paying the same tax as we all are. If u want to set up a company for pension purposes then fire ahead

I never said he was riding the Irish tax payer but he pays less paye tax this way and has more control over the tax, paye and income tax. It's simple, all within the law. Many soccer players in England do not the same.

In no way am I agreeing with lawnseeds sentiments on Gerry but he is correct that it far more advantagous to get paid into a company like the rte stars do.

Without getting bogged down the main benefit is lump sums that the company can pay into the employee ie rte star pension scheme from which on retirement they can receive a generous tax free lump, well they could before the current proposed set up. Another benefit is that they can invest this money gross rather than net like other paye workers. Instead of putting 300k on deposit, the company can put 600k on deposit, let it earn and then pay out a salary. It will incur dirt but at a lower rate.

They are numerous other ways why it benefits and lawnseeds not too far wrong.
