Guillem. Why would Larne not be able to field? They're ready to take their place in Div 4 along with the rest. St Bridget's, Belfast have withdrawn their hurling team from the league and JHC. The remnants of the Mitchels hurlers who played for them the last couple of years have transferred to McDermott's.

Hurling Discussion / Re: Clare

From RTE.IE.

Ger O'Loughlin is now the clear favourite to become the next Clare hurling manager, pending Mike McNamara's resignation from the post this week, according to reports.
McNamara's position has become all but untenable with the county's players determined to see him leave his post.
McNamara held a meeting with the squad on Sunday but there is little softening in the mood of players who have previously written to the county board asking that the manager be removed, and they look likely to get their wish.
O'Loughlin was part of the Ger Loughnane team of the 90's that claimed All Ireland success in 1995 and 1997 and has more recently been with Limerick club team Adare, whom he lead to three county titles in the last three years.
John Minogue, the man who guided Clare to All-Ireland U-21 glory in September has ruled himself out of the running to replace McNamara.
Minogue and Cyril Lyons are believed to be the county board's prefered choice but their lack of interest leaves the way clear for O'Loughlin.

The first round of championship matches are fixed for the weekend of August 7th, 8th and 9th with JHC on Friday night, IHC on Saturday and SHC on the Sunday. If the members of the NA panel are playing Junior and Intermediate with their clubs will they be expected to play with NA on the Sunday. 2 championship matches in 2 days is asking a wee bit much. Can anyone shine any light on this.

I think the 'watchtower' being built in Casement is the Antrim GAA museum.

At long last a hurling publication to rival the pish spouted by Gaelic Life, a football orientated rag. Hopefully the magazine will be available in Antrim. Good luck with the magazine.

Sledge Hammer, I have a copy of the Donegel Traveller CD, Vol 1+2,  with a few other humourous yarns from Aussie Bryson and Patsy O'Hagan. I could burn you a copy but would have no idea how to get it to you. Its good value. The Turf Spade yarn goes down well though.

Hurling Discussion / Derry Minor Hurlers
February 25, 2008, 01:12:55 PM
Heard a rumour last night that the management of the Derry minor hurling team have withdrawn their services as a result of no support from the county board, in that the minor hurlers wont be supplied with the necessary gear eg. kitbags, polo shirts, boots, hurls etc. from the county board.

Apparently the reason is the county board have stated that 'the Derry minor hurlers are a waste of time as they wont win anything, so here's no point in supplying them with any gear'.

Can any of the Derry posters shed any light on this?

Mitchells tried an amalgamation with Eire Og and O'Donnell's and play under the name O Mitchell Og. I think they got one player from O'Donnell's and a couple from Eire Og. I dont think Mitchell's have any sort of underage structure and I believe they would have folded had it not been for Gilly McIlhatton, who has ran the length of the county in order to keep the Mitchells club alive. Heard McD's are in trouble allright. A few other Belfast teams would be in the same boat as well. Has any of the Belfast posters heard if anything came out of that meeting called by the South Antrim board a few weeks ago in relation to hurling in Belfast. A few years ago there was a Div 4 in the hurling league but the county decided to amalgamate that with the teams in Div 3.
