Antrim / Re: Antrim Hurling

I think the problem with the Leinster Championship will be the other teams have never really been at full pelt in the league and have a gear or two to go up, we don't in my opinion and for most matches have put out close to the best we had available. I expect losses in all games aside from Westmeath which will decide our fate. I'd love to be wrong obviously but just an honest and realistic opinion.

Geographically the closest would be Glenarm then probably Naomh Eanna. I know at least one went to Davitts a previous time when there was no team so there's maybe a connection there. Probably depends on individual circumstances though.

As far as i know an amalgamation between st teresas and st agnes?

Another hurling team gone. Latharna Og.

More to follow id imagine. Some clubs are really struggling

Hadn't heard anything official but see on the Official Antrim site the points have been allocated to the other clubs for all their matches.

They still have the Camogie team and they were fielding at juvenile blitzes last season albeit with low numbers. I grew up in Larne and it obviously isn't a GAA stronghold. There will be a small band of volunteers very disappointed but it's obviously not an easy place to run a club. Still surprising to hear this though.

Neither is Ballymena, Ahoghill or Antrim town but they have no shortage of willing volunteers to drive on and promote their clubs.

How come you didn't volunteer to assist the hurling club when living in Larne????

For most of my time they weren't active and I was also spending most of my time out of Larne where my girlfriend (now wife) lived or in Belfast with work.

I hope they keep pushing at juvenile level but I know from talking to friends last year it's difficult too as Larne Youth are hoovering up most of the youngsters in the area. Most of the boys I know would be past the age of playing so not sure what's coming up behind them.

General discussion / Re: 20 years of the PSNI
February 24, 2023, 05:46:30 PM
I once applied to join the cops actually. It was around the very early days of the psni and to be honest all I was seeing was pound signs.

Got through the first few bits then had a car accident the day before the next stage and pulled out. In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't join for a great many reasons. I would have been shit at the job, my head would go looking over my shoulder all the time and I would probably have to live somewhere else than I do now.

I do know quite a few Catholics who joined around that time but to be honest, most of them moved away to other towns and I haven't saw them in years.

General discussion / Re: The Gym and Fitness Thread

Random question for anyone that knows about fitness. Daughter will turn 12 in April but plays for u-12 and u-14 in both Camogie and Ladies Football.

Obviously that's a lot of potential training sessions before you think of the matches too. How many hours per week would you say she should be training? She's the type of kid who wouldn't tell you if she's sore as she just wants to be playing but I don't want her to be wrecking herself either.

Interesting to see how he does. I used to cover La Liga for a website back when he was at Malaga. He done really well to keep them mid table at a time when the owner, Sheikh Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani was basically pulling the plug on his investment and was selling anything that he could and replacing with frees. Fingers crossed he keeps us up

I live in Carnlough and i think my closest club across the four main codes are four different clubs.

Camogie - St John's Carnlough
Hurling - Shane Uí Néill Glenarm
LGFA - Oisin Glenariffe
Men's Football - Either Ballymena or Glenravel.

GAA Discussion / Re: Should An Glenn object?
January 26, 2023, 11:43:45 PM
I was at the Mageean Cup final this year, SLG and St Killians. SLG were three ahead and St Killians had a free or a 65 on the blow, SLG made a sub and the player never went off. Came to nothing, whistle blew, SLG fans ran on the field and then the ref had to clear the field as he was blowing because he wanted it retaken. Retake happened and again came to nothing and SLG won.

Malachy O Rourke said he realised at the time and asked for a retake but the officials ignored it. That's inexcusable.

Also, Dara Mullin, I'm not buying he didn't know he was to come off. He stayed on and Kilmacud had 16 on so it's a clear breach.

They'll certainly take plenty away from it and are young enough to go again.

How many more Antrim titles do you think they can win? I do think there's a serious challenge coming from their neighbours in Loughgiel but might still be a couple of years away. They've had some serious minor teams lately. Can only be good for Antrim hurling though.

Thought Dunloy did well for about 40 of the 60 mins but they had a bad run toward the end of both halves which was ultimately the difference.

Think they made a mistake pulling Coby and Keelan so deep late on. There was one stage Keelan hit one from miles out and it dropped short but there was one Dunloy man in there and four Ballyhale. There was four in it at that stage and only mins left so needed a goal but had nobody in there.

Ballyhale done quite well against the Dunloy forwards to be fair and completely nullified Nigel Elliott who has been very important all year.

Good age profile in Dunloy and they might get another handy enough one in Antrim but I do think Loughgiel and them are set for some big battles over the next couple of years. Some quality minor teams over the past few years and as those lads get older that's where Dunloy's next big challenge is coming from.

Good luck to Dunloy tomorrow. Big task but they have the tools to cause problems. Bring it home.

Anyone at Dunsilly this evening? Antrim lineup available anywhere? Only updates seem to be on Armagh Twitter.

Probably an issue that the GAA, LGFA or Camogie Association will come across soon if they haven't already. Was it a New Zealand weightlifter that had the case that went to court?

See St Brigid's added another juvenile title this evening.
