GAA Discussion / Re: Paddy Heaney of the irish news!

Bollocks he's as bad as any convention delegate – latches onto whatever gripe he overhears in the social club. When was the last time you paid for a ticket Paddy or stood about in pissing rain in sub-zero temperatures? (we know you're here).

GAA Discussion / "Historic" win for PSNI

From the BBC (so excuse the obvious error)

PSNI GAA team in first gardai win

McCarthy cup

The McCarthy cup is named after an RUC officer who was in the GAA

The PSNI's Gaelic football team have beaten their counterparts in the gardai for the first time.

In the fifth annual game between the two police services, the PSNI team won the match, by 15 points to eight.

Speaking in Dublin after the game, PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Paul Leighton described the victory as "historic".

Members of the security forces were barred from playing hurling and football until the GAA scrapped its controversial Rule 21 five years ago.

Mr Leighton added: "This has been a great result for our Gaelic footballers and is just reward for the time and effort they give."

The McCarthy Cup is named after Thomas St George McCarthy, a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary who was one of the founding members of the GAA in 1884.

As was suggested before, if anyone thinks we are being hard done by in terms of coverage the way to tackle it is by keeping a log of GAA items on the news for a few weeks and then approach them with it. I would assume the person to take it up with is the BBC Sports Editor (used to be Ed Smith – not sure if it still is).

As someone who would listen more to Radio Ulster than watch BBCNI, I don't think we do too bad. If you don't believe me compare the passionate and comprehensive coverage Gaelic Games gets on Sunday Sportsound to the dull, inane dirge on Saturday Soccer or whatever it's called.

Thanks lads but I'd already seen those two links – they don't give much away (and the Hoganstand one is from 1995). Fecking teenage infatuations...

A bit OTT there lads. We should be looking at ourselves and not giving these people a chance to take snips at the GAA. As far as I know Jerome coaches one of the youth team up at Bredagh – what's he supposed to say to them about that dick Craig running up from the posts to take a swing at someone? The likes of that has no place in football – he should be banned for a long time...

You're right - cheers Sniper. Posted the wrong one. Meant to post one of the Hill in Clones not the Hill in Croker.

It yiz want him banned perhaps you should put forward an argument on why you think this. It's an open forum and he hasn't been abusive or posted defamatory remarks. All I can see he's be guilty off is running the aesthetics of the Board (in the opinion of some people). If this is to be a banning offence where does it stop?

Mike and Bud have a good point. Nobody wants to be hoking around for stuff that has dropped off the first page. Having a few different sections would allow posts (especially those concerning national GAA) to be around longer and give more people an opportunity to contribute.

My niece is doing an Irish assignment on the Crossmaglen sharpshooter. Anyone have any links to biographical information or good articles?
