GAA Discussion / Re: Muineacháin v Fear Manach

With regards tickets, at one club I'm hearing theres very few about, and at another any amount of them. The usual ticket rumours...I reckon close to, but mebbe not just capacity, though with the panic on I know boys who think it'll sell out a few times over, andthey'll never get in. Definitely the most eagerly anticipated clash between the teams in my memory ( so really only those since the turn of the millenium)

Dunno what trolling means, but i'm definitely 'childishly egging opinions' (?)

Relax!  :-*

Looking forward to Sunday aright, should be a great contest! MM is that all true? O'Rourkes very professional, but the co board have generally lagged behind when it comes to backing managers expenditure (tho is it still his clubman who's treasurer? ;)). Also, McCabes a good footballer, but to buy him out of a contract would suggest a status which I've never seen him earn (yet anyway). I cant see him starting on Sun. Its to be welcomed though, fermanagh rarely have been the better prepared team in the championship, and the attitude of 'only the best will do' definitely seeps through to the players.

Everyones being very mannerly and neighbourly on this thread so far, so here goes *deep breath*:

Monaghan are the most overrated team in Ireland. Theres no way they'll win an Ulster title this year, I doubt they'll beat Fermanagh. Once again they had a good start to the league, but were found out when it mattered. The 'legend' that is the Banty hasnt a clue, McElkennons actually running the show. Freemans a class act aright, (though just about every goal he scores comes from a push in the back of the defender), Finlays hot and cold, usually cold when you need him, Woods just isnt fit (which is a pity cos he really could be class) your man Hanrattys a clown, theres only one midfielder, and that entire defence is going to get found out 'on the dry sod'.

Discuss:

(btw dont think fermanagh are much beter, but apparently offence is best form of defence  ;))

We shoulda beat them, and would have but for Mickey Graham coming off the bench. Presumably the notorious cavan folk saw it as an investment - they must have thought they could sell off the cup for a profit. ;)
We've had that cup 39 times and haven't sold it yet ;D I'm sure when ye finally get your hands on it you'll mind it for us.

We were always hoping you'd sell it - looks like it might be the only way we'll get it!! :'( I'm sure all the clubs would sell tickets to cover the price!  ;D

Sometimes looking at the irish tabloids etc, I get afraid that irelands becoming too anglicised, but then something like this pops up to reaffirm my faith. He hasnt a hope of winning it, but I think its great we're sending him. Sure isn't life about havin a laugh!!

Dont think so, BBC clearly had at least some cameras there (man of match presentation, Kernan/Thomas Kanes input) so would be amazed if they didnt have full set up. Had to be them when think about those sky shots, wouldnt get rte doing that. I dont think there is that much cooperation between them - I have a vague memory of a story about the BBC/RTE not being allowed into clones because the other presumably had exclusivity (it clearly was resolved soon after)  As I say, very hazy memory, but there definitely was something along those lines. Anyone shed any light?

It was said about fermanagh in the past, in 96 tyrone gave them a timbering, and Martin McHugh siad they shouldnt be let play in the championship. The wee bast*ard hasnt been forgiven either. In 97 cavan won Ulster, but needed a replay to get by fermanagh, and the second game was nearly as tight. Theres been a steady improvement since. I dread to think what we'd be like now if someone had actually listened to the wee pri*k

We're well entitled to criticise the BBC, its not as though they're showing it out of the goodness of their hearts, i'd say it got a lot more viewers than the normal shows on then. And anyway, I'm sure anyone slating them, like me, has paid their tv licence  :P.

Some terrible aspects - camera following the ball into the air, thomas kane (who looks like a cross dresser). and its impossible to warm to creepy o'callaghan, Jerome might have been smug, but at least he acted natural in front of a camera.

First three 'sidebottom speaks', already overused and infuriating:
'They call him....' about every player whose nickname he knows.
1:8 'plays' 1:10 instead of just 'to' (its in the top corner anyway mark).
'Its as we were and its as you were'.  ???

Burns slated mcgourty, was rightly pulled up on it and then appeared to disagree with himself! What had changed?? He made a lazy inaccurate comment in an attempt to sum up the game, and was good to see he didnt get away with it.

Hopefully they improve, i'm sure they're all lovely fellas, but they couldnt be happy with that effort. Oh, and Joe kernan was pointless.

Think fermanaghandsam is prob right with the first statement, and definitely right with the second. I'd say o'rourke has his homework well done and knows the craic with quigley. With that in mind it would be disastrous to bring him into the panel just before championship. EG, be careful of boys like that, who love to act like they're in the know...he wasn't drinking at the time, was he? ;) :D

It was just that he made reference to bredagh being jody gormleys club, and also endas, yet didnt say anything about it being his own. Then when enda said about it being tir na nog, he said that he should mebbe go to it. Enda replied 'sure you already play hurling for them', laughing. Mebbe hes just got a bad memory...

When you phone someone and they dont answer, then you get a text back from them saying 'were u phoning?'

CHECK YOU MISSED CALLS YOU FCUKWIT!

Its more likely they know you were ringing, and weren't arsed talking to you. But they dont want you to know they dont like you for whatever reason (mebbe cos you seem like a psycho) so they text you asking this. And as luck would have it, you buy it every time. ;D

Cavan a lot better than expected. Antrim had their chance tho, took wrong decisions every time.
BBC coverage pissing me off more than usual, ok its on tv which is good, but surely they can make improvements - gag mark sidebottom (they call him..., 1:10 plays 1:8, its as we were, and its as you were - what does this even mean??) and shoot kane (he looks like hes in drag or sumthin').
I see from the BBC profiles, sidebottom claims to play hurling for bredagh, but from the exchanges between him and gormley i'm guessing this is a lie in an attempt to gain credibility - anyone know?
