People need a lesson in geography and history.  Why do people say the UK when they mean Britain (the mainland).  And who is the "Government of the Republic of Ireland".  The country's name is Ireland (or Éire) but not Eire.  >:(

Spain.  If Poland win there'll be a lot of boys getting no sleep with the neighbours, me included.

Mate in Dublin got it  during the week.  He has the basic ntl package.  It tuned in all the channels automatically.  Trying to get his house mate to go to bed earlier to get full use of some of the extra channels.  ;)

Pardon my ignorance, but I presume Ballymena's supporters are mostly Protestant, so what sort of "sectarian abuse" were they supposed to be throwing at Linfield?

So it seems their will abandon their principles for loot.  As John Taylor says, he's loyal to the crown and the half crown.

Michael J. Fox.  I disagree with deiseach re. the breakup of Canada.  If that was the case, we'd have the breakup of Switzerland, Belgium and a host of middle and eastern Europe countries with sizeable minorities.  Is it not better to see people living together than breaking apart?

If people decide to leave home becasue of the weather, then they have no real roots.  I moved back to Birr after about 15 years on the road around Ireland between college and work.  I'll never make much money, but I'm just pissed off I didn't come back earlier.  Ireland has a lot of problems, and my own town has more than most, but it's worth staying here and trying to improve it, because, after everything that has happened to us in such a short time, I honestly think that we are a good people with great hearts.

What about Michael Corcoran on RTE.  His bias towards rugby is unreal.  He was tut tutting about O'Leary being allowed to play in the AI but not a word about the Italian player nearly decapitating Stringer or the row that followed.  Then you have Des Cahill's obsession with pay for play.

It wasn't a Premiership Game.  It was a Carling Cup 2nd Round loss to Luton.

I'm not sure if Paul Collins is the sports editor, but on the morning after Limerick announce their team for the AI, this great GAA man's headline was a story about Sunderland.  Nice of him to put the Limerick story next before more soccer pieces about Liverpool then Rangers.  >:(

"The first recorded automobile fatality occurred in a small town in the Irish Midlands in 1869. Mary Ward, a celebrated microscopist, artist, astronomer and naturalist, fell from a steam carriage and died after crush injuries from its heavy iron wheels."

That small town was Birr.

I posted this originally from the Examiner's website, but it was nowhere to be seen on the BBC's.  Was it posted later?  If not, why not?
