Leahy fears sideline clash could haunt Tipp

Tipperary legend John Leahy fears that the sideline altercation between Liam Sheedy and Brian Cody earlier this year could come back to haunt the Premier County.

The rival managers squared up to each other on the Semple Stadium sideline during Tipp's National League victory in March, and Leahy believes Kilkenny could use the incident as motivation in Sunday's All-Ireland final.

Cody pointed a finger at Sheedy, who responded by pushing the Kilkenny manager in the chest. But the pair shook hands at the final whistle and dismissed the flashpoint after the game.

"Kilkenny's performances over the last few years show that they are the best team in the country," 1989 and '91 All-Ireland winner Leahy said.

"On top of that, also, I'm a bit concerned with the Tipp-Kilkenny match that happened in Thurles when Liam Sheedy had a go at Cody. Will that come back to haunt Tipperary hurling for the final? That'll give Kilkenny a huge incentive to play against Tipperary.

"The ideal situation from a Kilkenny point of view would be that if you did want to do five-in-a-row, you would want to beat Tipp to do it. Living on the border (Mullinahone), I hear huge rivalry there.

"It's great, but it's intense as well and I'm sure every Kilkenny player would think if you're going to do five-in-a-row, then why not cap it off by beating Tipperary, one of their main rivals?"

That'll not matter a jot to Cody and Kilkenny.

Beating Cork and Tipp on their way to five in a row will be incentive enough I'd have thought.

Just winning is enough for cody id have taught

QuoteThere was no Google in 1989 but now even stupid people know the capital of a country within seconds during a pub quiz. What's the next invention? Holograms of dead people who just repeat keys phrases they'd have said?

People unable to think could still become GAA umpires.

Well as it stands people who can't see seem to have no problem becoming umpires

there have been some cracking finals in the last ten years also AZ not just the 80's and 90's, look at the 04 final. The best match i have ever had the pleasure of watching and this year it may not have been as flamboyant as previous meetings but any final that takes 2 games and extra time to decide has had to have been played flat out by bout teams involved. Munster championship is a fantastic tournament and i for one would be sad to see it go. maybe a stand alone competition before an open draw all ireland is the way to go.

GAA Discussion / Re: All Ireland Final tickets

Not sure about the member a v b debate but what I would like to know is who is more deserving of a ticket for an all ireland final in the following scenario.

Member a or b as described above by TAC or a gaa member from another club who because of a falling out with their own club has turned his attention to county football and is such a big fan that he attended all matches in the Ulster Championships, a number of qualifiers involving other counties as well as all qualifiers involving his own county and every match in the all ireland series.  This fan also attended most league games, all McKenna cup games and a number of underage games involving his county?

The fan who attends all the games as above regardless of if he is a gaa member or not i think is more deserving of a ticket. i know loads of people who go to all the intercounty games league and championship and still struggle to get tickets for finals.

Shocking no sign of a keeper, could cost a top four spot if things go badly

I never said they have but ive certainly never been chased down the highstreet in any town for wearing my county jersey. There is more of an organised hooligan element in soccer circles.

I live on Main St.

Do you think this one assault calls for so much coverage, never mind the local politicians hopping on board.
To me, it's much ado about not much.

Fair enough. BTW, is there anywhere else in the world where invaders celebrate defeating the natives? Do the invaders celebrate from April to September? Do they continue to do it on the natives land? Just wondering, like.
What gets celebrated on the 4th July in America? Is it the invaders celebrating the liberation of their land from the...um...other invaders? Likewise the national day celebrations in Canada and Australia. Is that just a bunch of invaders celebrating, if not victory over the natives, at least on the natives' land? See, there comes a point in time when people have been in a place for so long that they are also natives too. Northern unionists have been in Ireland longer than the white man has been in Australia, North America, etc etc. They are natives here, every bit as much any nationalist. So if they want to parade up and down the streets of their own land, so what? Just wondering, like.

(BTW, this isn't to condone what appears to have been an episode of complete thuggery and which should not go unpunished.)

So what you are saying is that anywhere the british are involved is a complete shambles.

Seems to be the general theme of it  :)

One of the funniest, maddest things I've seen in YouTube in a long time!  :D :D :D

I'd call it a cowardly assault by morons on a defenceless drunk.

I'd have to agreecould have snapped his spine, none of them had the balls to do it themselve

Got chased throuh salou by a group of rangers fans when i was about 15 for wearing an Ireland top. They don't have the most friendly support around the place but then most soccer clubs have an undesireable element. Its sport it's supposed to be a distraction from the pressures of everyday life, not a reason to cause trouble.
