General discussion / Re: 11-Plus Proposal

So whay are you so against it? We still need some sort of selection process to move kids from primary to post primary education. The 11+ isnt perfect, but nothing ever will be. At least its an independant test, if it were left up to teachers to decide who goes to grammar school there would be a lot of favouritism and if it comes down to money then that will be unfair also.

Is the All-Stars not only for the Championship, ie not the League, etc..?

I suppose you think football only started in 2003 as well.

GAA Discussion / Re: McKenna Cup 2009

Will Stevie O`Neill bother with something as insignificant as the McKenna cup or will he wait to see if Tyrone make it to an All Ireland final before deciding to play in 2009. Surely the McKenna cup is beneath the team of the decade?

International rules preciction: The first game will be a tight enough affair with Ireland just about shading it. Australia will knock seven bells out of Ireland in the second game and win comfortably.

General discussion / Another conspiracy theory?
September 25, 2008, 01:46:19 PM
I`m not really into conspiracy theories, but this one is well worth watching. Yes it is 2 hours long, but skip the first 15 minutes as it is a bit arty farty, but the rest is certainly thought provoking. The final part of the film is quite relevant to todays financial situation and by the looks of it, it isnt the first time we have faced such times. Take a couple of hours this evening to watch it, its certainly better than Eastenders or Corrie.

If Gerry Adams ever swears an oath to Lilly Windsor he would be finished-

Isnt Gerry finished anyway? Did his appearance on TV before the last Irish election not show him up for the idiot that he is? That appearance cost Spin Fein dearly in that election.

Whats happening with the housing market at home anyway? is it as bad as the media make out or is there still buying and selling going on? how much has property dropped?

from breakingnews.ie

House prices are falling globally and Ireland is near the bottom of the pile, new research showed today.

During the year to the end of June, the cost of property fell in 21 of the 33 countries across the world for which there is reliable data, according to property research group The Global Property Guide.

Ireland has seen a slide of 13.72% in inflation-adjusted house prices in the last year, the third-worst performer in the survey.

The group said the Baltic states, the United States (18.93%), the UK (9.77%) are also doing badly.

House prices have dived by 33% in real terms in Latvia's capital Riga, during the period, while in Estonia's Tallinn they have fallen by 14%.

The group said quarterly data suggested the situation was getting worse, with inflation-adjusted house prices dropping in all but nine of the 33 countries during the second quarter of the year.

The Global Property Guide said: "Since last year, there has been a dramatic turn-around in the world's housing markets.

"Only five countries out of 33, at this stage last year, had seen year-on-year declines in house prices in real terms. This year's total is 21."

It said that even in countries that continued to record house price rises during the past year, such as China, transaction volumes had fallen sharply, suggesting that buyers were now nervous.

The group added that while property markets in some regions, such as the Middle East, apparently remained in boom, it was hard to confirm this by reliable data.

Spain has recorded house price falls of just 2.49% for the year to the end of June, despite widespread reports of the problems the country's housing market faces.

However, The Global Property Guide said Spain's official housing statistics were widely believed to understate the problem.

Mel was it a coincidence that there were no IRA operations in the run up to elections? Or was it Sinn Fein strategy? Where did the money come from to fund election campaigns,, remember Sinn Fein came from nowhere and werent allowed to raise funds in the US. The current Sinn Fein leadership has steered Republicanism away from violence and in a way that is positive,  but they have failed to deliver, in fact the union with Britain is safer now than ever before, Ireland now has no constitutional claim to the six counties, well done Gerry.
Gerry may not be a British agent, but you have to admit he is working to a British agenda. Many top Shinners and indeed IRA members have been outed as agents, there are probably many more working away quietly in the background. Gerry will swear an oath and take his seat in Parliament one of these days, he has delivered everything else that he said he wouldnt. The North truely is as British as Finchley.

http://www.channel4.com/video/the-price-of-property/catchup.html  is well worth a look. Anyone who is thinking of buying at the minute needs their head examined. Prices are going to drop much much more.

Edited to add, watch this weeks programme (22nd). Some crazy decisions, some people are losing a lot of money.

Donagh I see what you are saying, but it is one thing escaping from a prison and while it was no mean fete is isnt on the same scale as overthrowing the British government.

Too many Sinn Fein members have been outed as British agents, I wouldnt trust any of them. Britain couldnt beat the IRA, but Sinn Fein did. Their success at the ballot box killed off the armalite. Sinn Fein were allowed to dictate IRA strategy, IRA funds were diverted away from a military campaign to buying suits and media classes for people who never got their hands dirty. Are you trying to tell me that this wasnt done at the hands of the British or are you trying to convince yourself that Gerry thought this up all on his own?  ;)
