I believe based on what I have read that the turn around in crime in New York in the early 90's was not due to Rudolph Giuliani's zero tolerance policy but to a well know court case and decision called 'Roe v Wade'.
It allowed for the introduction of limited abotion in the United Sates.. A compelling argument for this hypothesis is put forward in 'Freakonomics'

Take a chill pill GNevin. If we can put up with trying to decipher your hieroglyphic ramblings, we can understand when orangeman uses italics for quotes. :D

GY Joe, how do you know Mullins cold cocked him? I thought it was a row?
He swung his forearm back when Talty had his attention elsewhere and flattened him.

Personally i have no wish to talk up or down the sport of hurling. there it is and you can play or watch it if you please. similarly you can talk about it or not as you please. i don't care. certainly i don't see the point in integrating the hurling threads into the wrongly named GAA Section (should be football section). as az says, the threads will be swallowed very quickly and proper discussion on worthwhile topics will not happen.

what are the benefits of integrating the two?

You Ulster boys go on alot about Unity but you cant put it into practise can ye?  ;D

The 83 Dublin wasnt dirty in the slightest (bar Mullins  ;D  ). Anyone who thinks they are must have only seen them play one game. In 83 they played (among others) Meath twice, All Ireland champions Offaly and then Cork twice. They were all tough teams who could look after themselves, but there was hardly a dirty stroke in any of those games. The All Ireland final of 83 was just one of those things that happens sometimes in football. Two very tense teams, played in appalling conditions and reffed poorly. Barring Duff's awful wild swing, something he never did before or after (despite what some eejits would tell you), the real only dirt in the game was the Mullins v Talty ongoing feud. The 83 Dublin team wasnt a patch on the 70s team in terms of toughness. And again there were's nothing out of the ordinary in their runs to the 84 and 85 All Ireland finals.

Sorry Hound, but I remember watching that game at the time and on TG4 since. That Dublin were a dirty team then is open to debate. But that Dublin were dirty that day is a fact. They were not only dirty, they were systematically dirty. They were leaving in late boots and fists all day, the Ref should have sent one off early and that might have quietened it but he let it get out of hand.
Kieran Duff kicked a fella in the head when he was on the ground...
Mullins cold cocked somebody when he wasn't looking...
You could add cowardice to dirty.
That does not excuse Galway's absolute abject display on that day, it was no wonder that they were lost in oblivion for 32 years after that . Talty at least stood up to them, how ironic that he is now so heavily involved with the Dubs.

in TV terms hurling is really holding back football with prominent ganes not being shown due to the A public sevice obligation to shown ' the greatest game in the world' the fact no mant are interested doesn't seem to bother . look at the attendances to NHL this year . in tullamore yesterday you'd hardly know there was a match on a good minor football game would cause more disruption

This is a classic case of football only morons who are completely put out by hurling only morons. Your attitiude stinks as much if not worse than the hurling snobs who talk down football. And its left a large chip on your shoulder.

Enjoy the game of hurling for what it is, dont talk it down because you have an inferiority complex.

Is Eugene Cloonan on the Galway panel this year ?
No, did not put his name forward this year. Due in the main to issues with his back needing rest I think.

At this point, I would say Ballyhale are probably about 6/4 to come out of Kilkenny and Leinster. If they win Kilkenny they'll probably go to even money or 10/11.

Quote me for a Ballyhale V Portumna Final.. Would they meet in the Final or Semi F next year if it happens?

If Portumna got more suspensions than Loughrea, is it safe or unsafe to assume that it was Portumna who were the more aggressive on the day ? I do remember that picture of Joe Canning alright - it was horrible and should be condemned. Obviously Galway club hurling is very competitive - anyone got a roll of honour for Galway hurling ?

Just found the club roll of honour in Wiki: As follows:
Now a 3 way tie at the top for Club Honours

I was on here a few months ago espousing the virtues of the Boston Celtics.. It was more in hope than evidence despite their NBA best start at the beginning of the season. Now at the business end, I am delighted to say that they are even better than anybody thought..
They just beat San Antonio (The champs) and Houston (22 wins in a row before last night) and have Dallas to come in the toughest road trip EVER in the Texas Triangle (Rated by many)

The GREEN MACHINE IS BACK
Celtics 94, Rockets 74
(AP)
Breaking news: Celtics end it
The Celtics sent the hot Rockets back to earth last night. The second-longest winning streak in NBA history - 22 games - ended when the Celtics brought down the Rockets, 94-74, at the Toyota Center, handing Houston its first loss since Jan. 27. (Boston Globe, 12 a.m.)

Add my voice to the chorus of congratulations for Portumna. They join a growing group of Galway teams that have won 2 AI's. Odds on them to join Athenry on 3? I think. And short enough odds on them to join Birr on 4 I would say. If they can keep the hunger, barring injuries etc., etc.

Now on to the good stuff.. Andy and Leo Smith, Damien Hayes, Eoin Lynch, Ollie Canning to come back and the Joe show to arrive at the intercounty door at last...
Brace yourselves cats!! You might have some competition this year at last..
