Laois / Re: Next Laois football manager

I heard the Colin Kelly story myself, that the job is pretty much his. Not really sure what to make of it though. I'd be doubtful of the rumour on the basis I hadn't heard anything about interviews taking place.

Creeden has more to say since he lost his job than he has all year. Obviously getting his speak in early for his next gig.

He failed to mention though that Laois were probably the most unfit team in Ireland or they were tactically inept in every facet of the game.

The drinking of a few doesn't cover up for the fact that Peter and his mgt team oversaw the worst year in Laois senior football in living memory and the year was an unmitigated disaster.

The manager has to take some responsibility.

And the CB wanted to reappoint him!!

For this reason alone there should be joyous celebrations when that collective bunch of muppets stand down.

Seriously town, give it a rest. Every post of yours is Tony bashing now! Just make the point and leave it at that.

I want to second what blueandwhite says above.
For the 40-45 mins the players were fantastic but then Dublin got the run of them. If they had a bit of experience they could have been able to mix up the puckouts  or at least slow down the game a bit when Dublin were going through their purple patch, this bit of know-how will come in time though.

When you consider the retirements over the last few years and the crazy injury list we have been faced with, this entire year could (perhaps should) have been an absolute shocker. Its testament to these group that we finish off the year already looking forward to next years campaign and possibly pushing on further.

Does anyone know the clubs feeling towards the current county board setup? Living outside of the county I wouldn't be in the know as regards the different club committee's, is there anyone at any of the clubs that people would think a good shout for a county board position?

The Laois players are playing this down nicely all the talk is about Kildare!

An ex Kildare county player of just a few years ago is quoted as saying"Loosing to this Laois team which is the worst in decades would be as bad as loosing to Wicklow in 2008 it can't be allowed to happen"

GET STUCK INTO THESE COCKY FLOURBAGS

Not cocky. Just better. Much better.

At a stag do so missing this game, 1-2 where the 2 points appear to be from frees is abysmal. Is there any game plan at all or are they all just going through the motions?

And another thing, this was the second game that Kevin Meaney was sent off where if we had the full 15 we more than likely would have seen the victory out. To do it once is bad, to do it a second time is unforgivable.

Is there any accountability as regards these GDO's? If the buck stops (or partially stops) with them as regards the level of a young players skillset and they are getting financially covered for it then they are clearly not fit for purpose based on the last number of years.

As for the county chairman, I think he is more interested in getting his face in the Leinster Express than any meaningful progress of the game in the county.

What utter BS!!
"We assumed that more people would come to Nowlan Park to line our pockets, as this didnt happen we are now willing to put matches elsewhere. Those expensive salaries of the upper GAA have to be paid somehow ya know!"

All seeded teams in the Quarter Finals should be made travel to their opponents home ground, it would level the playing field to some degree and give the weaker counties a sniff of a chance in most cases.

Laois / Re: All-Ireland Football Qualifiers 2016

Hey Chaps,

I was thinking lately about our performances in the championship the last few years, specifically the losses. In the last 5 years we have suffered the following defeats:
2011 - Lost to Tipp
2012 - Lost to Longford (after being 6 points ahead at half time)
2013 - Lost to Louth at home
2014 - Lost to Tipp at home
2015 - Lost to Antrim at home (after being something like 8 points up at half time)
2016 - Lost to Clare (after being up by 4 points with 15 mins left)

Generally we take these losses in isolation as they are on a year by year basis and we would come out with the usual investigation as to why we lost (players not committed, management etc), but I feel when you group them together it raises a much bigger question.

I am nearly certain that all of the above would have been at a lower grade than us in the league at the time (might have been wrong on Louth in 2013), plus I would say every game there was seen as a shock loss by the media.
Most other counties of our level in the leagues would suffer maybe 1 or 2 max losses to lower division opposition in the same timeframe whereas for us its seems to be a yearly thing.

So what would be the cause of this?

  • It cant all be down to management, the above list spans 3 different managers.

  • Is it mostly down to players mentality? In 3 of the games listed above we had good leads at crucial times. Is it just that the players on the day dont know how to close out a game? Again we are covering a lot of different players during that period.

  • Is it the fans expecting too much?

  • Or am I reading too much into the league. I have noticed for years that there is never a rise in the team between league and championship, its like they are not focused on the championship.Again this is just my opinion, others may have seen differently.

Just want to get peoples thoughts on the above, as it was something I have been thinking a lot about lately and it really makes grim reading.

Imagine if this was Dublin or Cork - would there be a chance in hell that this game would be replayed? Can't believe we are not even putting up a fight.

Fact ....But lets just get on with it now and win it going into the clare game in Ennis with two wins under our backs!

Best attitude I think Unlaoised. Its the hand we are dealt with and the County Board clearly arent going to fight it so best that everyone (especially the players) get the heads right for the Armagh game and focus on that.
The two weeks means at least we arent coming into a game against opposition that we havent had time to prepare for.
As someone said there really needs to be an improved Laois support there. No excuses about Ireland matches or Nowlan Park to through around!
