QuoteTough draw for us, Armagh are improving while we look to be waning. They'll fancy their chances of taking down a "big" team here I'd say.

Have we ever played in championship before?

1950 semi final.

We all know what happened after that.

It's ON!!!
its a sifn its a sign .
though im nearly sure we played in a 1/4 final or some thing since then . I rember armagh giving mayo a good beating on ther day . it was in croker maybe a league Semi?

League semi final 2004 I think.

Yeah, Paul McGrane kicked Ronan McGarrity in the head as he was lying on the ground

No he didn't.

Hard to believe we were arguing about it back then all those years ago, but yes, he did.

No, he really didn't and I believe I can prove it.

If you could that'd be great, genuinely. I only have a memory in my minds eye, and I'd love to put it to bed after 15 years. More than happy to stand corrected

We didn't qualify for the 2004 League semi-final!

Apologies- 2005 league semi final then!

Sorry i take it all back. Youre right. They havent experienced any 'training' of that ilk before. I made it all up.

Take your pick from the following for cards and you wont be far away.
I didnt say every game but whatever you think yourself.

James Morgan.
Greg McCabe.
Aaron McKay.
Charlie Vernon.
Aidan Forker.

Morgan and McCabe can be rash. McKay a bit less so. Forker discipline has improved a terrible lot the last while. Charlie Vernon !!!

Agreed, Forker's discipline has improved massively.Think Morgan will be ok tomorrow night regarding yellow cards. Charlie is a bit of a fouling machine but don't think it is anything to do with with MMA. But don't think we are any better or worse than a lot of other teams around our level.

Sure i was lead to believe that KMcG had them training 8 nights a week and doing MLA and sh1t...Surely they'd be fit as f**k?

Freudian slip there- overpaid and underperforming!

Possibly. But did the down players make more intelligent decisions so they could conserve energy during the first game and this is why they looked fitter in last ten of normal time or were they just better conditioned?

I fear this is where Armagh's championship campaign will end this summer. Monaghan have got two kicks up the arse from Fermanagh,Cavan and with the mini break and home advantage they should be winning this game. The three games and two extra times has taken a lot out of Armagh and manner of the fade out v Cavan for the last quarter of the replay was not a good sign for supposedly fit team.

Supposedly fit is right. It is obvious from watching Armagh throughout the year that their conditioning and fitness is nowhere near that of the top teams. This is at the end of end of a five year 'transitional' period. Whatever about having limited quality regarding players (which you often hear as an excuse for the regression of the counties fortunes) with the investment that has been expended by the county on senior team preparation there is, in my opinion, absolutely no excuse for the team not having the required conditioning.

Harps very lucky to be so close. Cross playing very well, impressed with their keepers kick outs.
some of his kick outs, particularly in first half were exceptional. A couple of wayward ones in Second half but it really didn't matter as cross were in complete control. Score line flattered harps imo, who were very disappointing.

We should revive this thread. Senior championship is looking competitive and wide open. Interesting at the very least even if it isn't of the highest quality

Good call regarding thread.

Think the quality is not too bad. Cross have come back in quality a bit but a few other clubs have stepped up.
In fairness as, rufus says, the current set up is probably as good as you are going to be able to get for aligning leagues and championships etc.
From a games point of view,  It is better than last year were some clubs had all football finished up for the year in August leaving a free pass for competing sports. A caveat to this is the huge demands that are been placed on the limited number of referees, stewards and volunteers to deal with all these matches. Wouldn't fancy having to organise the logistics of all that!😓😁😁

We're a small enough county who experienced a decade of relatively huge success, we've just just went back to our normal level. The people raised on the success of the Noughties have a lot of unrealistic expectations.

1953, 77, 02 & 03, We're due another great team in circa 2027/8.

With respect, I think this is a terrible attitude and if this is the general attitude of the county then we deserve to be in this continuous state of transition that we have found ourselves in since 2007.

Armagh had nothing left at 70 mins, the successive games took their toll on the players who gave their all. Was a decent performance where that extra bit of quality was missing. Roscommon deserved their win and the very best of luck in S8's. That was some roar all right when last goal went in, good game

Someone mentioned Charlie Vernon played well whereas I thought he was poor, just shows you how different people see and read games... Smith (12) was lethal and we couldn't handle him at all... Serious player with great pace.

Would agree about Charlie. Real trier but thought he was burned for pace a few times and also the pass he giveaway for Roscommon first goal was criminal. Thought Enda smith was very quiet in first half but definitely seemed to step it up in second half and was immense.

Did Armagh tire or did Roscommon move up a gear?

Would usually be a critic of joe mcqullian but I thought he was quite good today (can't comment on penalty incident until I see it again) with a few marginal calls going Armagh's way and a few going Roscommon's way with Armagh maybe coming out slightly better off. Definitely was as bad as the Roscommon people around me at the match were saying!
