While I think something needs done I doubt this is the solution - this will make the role of midfielders so pivotal to the game - if you have one overly dominant midfielder who will have a huge influence on the game and will be very difficult for the opposition to combat. Take for an example a inter-county midfielder playing in junior game - he'll absolutely rule the roost - small quick teams will be thing of the past as you need a good big midfield.

It also ruins the art of winning the breaking ball - a skill of the game in itself, some great half forwards have a real knack for this

Been watching the NHL playoffs over last couple of weeks - have to say there has been some real good series matchups - the islanders - caps game last night was unreal. Think the parity of the league really comes through. Not having a dig at the NBA playoffs as but they really only come good in the latter rounds - too many one sided series.

I've no issue with club championship in May - last year was one of best in a long time and is much better than squeezing a full championship in about a month.

Main issue is the all Ireland series an length of time it takes to run off. Look at the ulster championship - it takes far 2 long with 1 game a week. Until this is sorted club fixtures are always going trying to make best of bad situation. And no I'm not on CCC

GAA Discussion / Re: GAA doing a deal with SkySports

I've no issue with sky's involvement - they offer a better product than rte, they do this strange thing were they actually analyse the game at hand rather than listen to Spillane et al spout same thing they've been talking about for a decade.

Last year we found ourselves watching the all Ireland semis and final on sky.

I thought I did, start championship in August and don't split weekends to play the 1st round so you can cream every penny from supporters, means it will be comfortably fitted in.

Tyrone GAA we played the 1st round last year in May and won, so it didn't effect us in terms of having no football in the summer bar a few league games, it effected 50 % of the other clubs in Tyrone, its a pity I care for the grassroots, isn't it??

Not sure august start date would work if Tyrone were to progress in the All Ireland series (unlikely according to many however still a possibility). All Ireland qrtrs are at start of august with the semi's are the last weekends of August so does that leave the 2 week gap in between - not sure how that solves the problem you suggest of not having county players.

I actually thought it worked quite well last year and didn't notice anymore lads going to America apart from Tyrone players who prob would have went in any case given Tyrone's early exit - something they were perfectly entitled to do.

I think the problem lies in big clubs attitude to the league - if the league fed into the championship structure - say top 4 seeded in next years championship may make a difference

Is there a rule somewhere that can't have square ball if balls comes off the post, can be only reason goal was given, kinsella having poor game

Real good debate on here but ultimately it comes down to Carroll over thinking the situation and worrying about the ifs and buts of leaving too much, if he didn't get in etc etc. He had arguably the best rusher in the game - give it to him, take the lead and then worry about the clock!

Also the argument about not being able to get a 4th down off without the pass is flawed - Carroll can also ship blame for allowing too much time run off the clock between downs

Anyone else think that this college playoff is as controversial as the BCS, if not more so. No matter what way committee decide there will be 2 teams left feeling very miffed!

Think the manner of Ohio State's win last night will get them in. The fact the big 12 didn't have a championship game is really going to hurt tcu an Baylor

It would be a bit of a joke if ND made the play-offs if there are any other one loss SEC teams left besides the conference champions.

The only thing that should save ND is even more carnage in the SEC - FSU and the SEC champs are locks. Big 10/12, PAC-12 champs will be in the mix for the fourth spot too.

Only games on ND's schedule that are meaningful are Arizona State and a barely ranked USC.

Can't agree with this Syferus. ND we're beat by umpires call last night (a call that was 50/50), against prob no 1 team in the country in Tallahassee, hardly a reason to discount a team from the playoffs.

Whilst think any 1 loss sec team deserves to be in, think ND deserves a shot as much as the PAC 12 and Big 10/12 champion. Whilst their schedule is easier than was thought at start of year, it's hardly a cakewalk.

Interesting though that ND's independent status might come back to haunt them as playoff committee may prefer to choose 1 loss conference champion over ND

Think Cookstown made a conscious effort last year to toughen up - no bad thing, however think they took it too far with cheap shots, diving and mouthing off. This p*ssed lot of clubs off meaning that when came to the end of the season every team wanted to put the knife in and send them down.

Probably time for a clear out in the club and start over. There's def talent there there's just a correct way to do things!

I don't think anyone on here can argue that things are better this year than previous however would have to agree with the points the Clonoe lads are making.

Every player wants to play football regularly, but the CCC's determination to squeeze the reserve championship and under 21s in before the July break has put undue strain on clubs and left clubs picking and choosing which fixtures to fulfil.

For example, Donaghmore reserves drew their 1st round championship game with Eglish aet on a Saturday evening, so had the replay on the Wednesday which also went to extra time, played the 2nd round on the Friday and then had a league game on the sunday. Its pretty unfair on these players who are training all year for their season to be condensed in under a week.

I think the CCC do have to be commended for so far getting most players regular football in the summer, however there was no real need to condense the reserve championship and under 21s given that these competitions should not be affected by Tyrone's progress.

All over bar the shouting. College football is amazing.

Auburn will play Florida State in the BCS Championship game in January. Alabama will be represented in five consecutive BSC title games now, and the crystal football hasn't left the state since that streak began. Incredible.

I never thought in my wildest dreams that when the dust settled on the 2013 season Auburn would be one of the final two teams. This year's run is even more stunning than Cam's back in 2010-11. From win-less in the SEC last year to the national title game, this is the sort of thing that just doesn't happen in a sport as competitive as college ball. Malzahn was an inspired choice.

A seminal season? Check.

A team of destiny? One last test.
Say what you like about auburn, but that running attack is mightily impressive. Mizzou are no soft touch on defense but the relentless attack from Auburn was special. Had my doubts before the Alabama came but have to say what i seen there last 2 games was unreal. Their defense is atrocious though.

Any bets on the total number of points in the national title game - couldn't see it being under 100 points (per team lol)
