Antrim / Re: Antrim Football Thread

As a Rasharkin man saturday nights match left a bitter taste in the mouth. While I didn't think Money-grabber Mullan was a good referee, I just really never realised he was so bad. To be fair he was bad for both teams. There were several times fans from both teams were left scratching their head in confusion at the award of some frees. Every time the ball came into our defence he either awarded a free in or a free out. Cunningham scored 8 points from frees while our full back line won about 15 frees. It was surreal watching it.

My main gripe would be the way he conducted himself during the last 5 minutes of the game when it was level.

First off all he sent one of our players off for an incident that no-one in the whole ground witnessed.

He then awarded Lamh Dearg a soft enough free to take the lead. He compounded that by blowing one of our players up for wasting time taking a free despite the fact we were getting beat.

To top the lot he blew the final whistle when we were on the attack with one of our players having 20 yards space in front of him.

All in all a draw probably would have been a fair result but to lose under those circumsatances was like a kick in the balls.

I hold no malice to Lamh Dearg because they had to play under the same circumstances and I hope they go on to win the final. Any team with Paddy Cunningham has a good chance to win because he is a classy finisher.

It just feels horrible not to get another crack at getting to our first final in 43 years due to the ineptitude of a referee. St Pauls are well rid of him.

If the powers to be had any balls, they would suspend O Mahoney

That won't happen because of the fuss about Galvin.

O'Mahony is a disgrace. A pure tr**p.

I couldn't have put it any better.

I see Chris Henry has been handed one more 'Last Chance' in Cincinnati.

As a Bengals fan I am not sure what to think of this. On on hand he is a talented receiverand is very productive, but on the other hand I thought the team had been moving away from the dubious characters they have employed in recent years.

I guess time will tell.

I dont think they put asterisks on major trophies so it doesn't matter a damn if Tiger is there or not. Would Tiger have holed the putts that Harrington did on the last 3 holes? We will never know.

The fact is an Irish golfer has won 2 majors in a month and typically some Irish people seem to want to knock the achievement.

Maybe I am being harsh - begrudgery would have nothing to do with it. I am thrilled for Harrington, I've already said he's now Irelands greatest ever sportsman.

I don't think it's that unfair to wonder what would have happened if Tiger had played - Tankie is right in saying that you can only beat what's in front of you, but I would imagine 20 years down the line any retrospective look at Golf would point out that 2008 was the year Tiger was out injured for the last 2 majors.

In 20 years time the fact that Woods was injured might never be mentioned. The AC Milan team of the 80's and 90's are rated one the best club teams of all time even though they won 2 of their European Cups when English teams were banned from Europe.

People only remember the winners and and who they beat, they don't remember who wasn't here.

I am dog tired this morning but it was worth it. An absolutely engrossing nights TV.

Did you see the look on Harringtons face during those last few holes? It was the same face we saw at Birkdale and I now have more confidence in him in those situations.

Roxette - It must have been love

Had a few break up's in your time boy with this tear jerker!!

Roxette are masters of such songs. 'Fading and like a flower' and 'Spending my time' are also classic break-up songs.

This list is pointless. Where are the Sawdoctors? They should have 2 or 3 albums there!

The Saw Doctors are great target practice for musical snobs. It is pretty labelled as Neanderthal music by people who have never listened to any of their albums or been to any of thier concerts.

It's quite sad really because nobody describes the Irish way of life any better than them.

They have also been the best advert for tourism in the west of Ireland because of the ammount of places they drop into their songs.

I have to admit I have tried to dislike them but I can't.

I am just bumping this thread as the time approaches.

Typical of Ireland to shit in the nest on Saturday just to make watching the England game in the bars a lot less exciting.

Waxy O Connors in the print works would be ideal for you in that case, its a bar with a DJ, decent enough when your full. If you head out early, have a walk aroundthe Northern Quater behind the printworks, lots of new bars round there, bit trendy but ok. Deansgate isnt really the place for your group, although you may find some fun at Deansgate locks. There are also some decent cheap indie nights like 5th Avenue, Brickhouse and 42nd Street.
Walkabout is also cheesy beery place, just off Deansgate

and have a look through this

I was in Waxy's in London about 4 years ago and enjoyed it. It probably is the place for us alright. We will be easily pleased at that stage of the evening anyway so somewhere that plays it simple will suit us down to the ground.

I am just trying to suss out a trouble-free place were we can have a bit of craic without any hassle.

There is 19 of of going with the age range 25-30. We are staying in the Thistle Hotel in Portland St.
We are heading bowling to kill the morning and then we were thinking of hitting an Irish Bar to watch the rugby.
I reckon the whole squad will head back to get changed around 7 and hit the town for eight.
We just need somewhere to go between 11pm and 2am.

Ok
firstly you are there right slap in the middle of the irish/st pats festival.
http://www.manchesteririshfestival.co.uk/2008/index.html

Thistle hotel is right slap in town. Where are you bowling?
Big groups of lads, hard to manage, but the printworks could cater for you. Do you want a club or maybe a bar that opens late with dj etc?

I think we are heading to Levenshulme for the Irish festival during the day. There are several pubs providing entertainment before and after the rugby so the afternoon is catered for.

We probably would be going into the bars 5 at a time so not to draw attention to ourselves. As I said in the earlier post we just need somewhere that plays a lot of party type music preferably with a DJ. I suppose the Walkabout would fit that bill if all else fails.

Stiffler, I am in Liverpool about twice a year we decided to go to Manchester for a change.

As I live in said city, I may be able to help.
How many of you are there?
Where are you staying?
What age group?
What activities if any have you planned for the day?

Does anybody know any good nightspots in Manchester? My stag do is there on the 15th March. We will all be hitting the pubs early in the day to watch the rugby but haven't a clue were to head at night.

It would be fair to say we would all be culchies so we are more likely to be at home in a place playing cheesy music than some underground rave club where everybody is off their tits.

There is 19 of us so it probably would help if the area catered for large groups. I have heard the Deansgate area mentioned but as I said I haven't a clue about Manchester.

P.S. Former board member Slim Shady is going with us so wish me luck. Lets hope we don't run in to anyone from Bellaghy!

Everton keeping the pressure on for 4th ;D ;D How will they get on in the CL :P :P ;D

Everton weren't equipped for the CL the last time they reached it but they have a far better squad now. I am not saying they will finish 4th but anybody that watched them last night would have to be impressed. But for inspired goalkeeping and a blind referee they would have put 6 by City last night.

If any team is going to oust Liverpool out of 4th it will be them. In all fairness I can't see reason why either team can't go for 3rd. Avram Grant looks clueness now that he has a full squad.
