Read this on the Hoganstand from Liam O'Neill former Mayo manager  This also applies to the problem in Derry, although we haven't had the same success at Minor and U21 level

Former Mayo senior football manager Liam O'Neill feels that the appointment of a director of football in the county would be hugely beneficial to the Connacht side.
O'Neill, who was in charge of the Mayo seniors for four years during the eighties now lives in San Diego California and works as a GAA coach out there.
He believes that the work is been done at underage level, but that the problem lies after this when transforming the minor stars into senior stars.
"It's not unusual to have players on the under-16 team cycle through at least six managers up to the time they finish at under-21 level. During this formative period they are subjected to mixed messages on all levels, especially in tactics and execution in the match setting, leading to confusion on the part of the young players," said O'Neill.
"With no where to go for advice, their careers are in the hands of the next manager, voted in, leading to even further confusion. I believe a relatively quick way to streamline player development is to get everyone on the same well designed plan, communicating and implementing a strategic, common programme.
"This programme must be implemented and managed by a full time director of coaching and that person must be employed independent of the county board."

If Mickey Harte was the Kerry manager Kerry would have beaten Tyrone comfortably.   But what makes him outstanding is that he has, is and will always be a winner and unlike O'Dwyer does not need a host of so called 'stars'

Bit missing from previous post.
Isn't strange the perceptions some people have of great Gaels like Crozier, Scullion and Harte, those great volunteers of the modern age.  Folks are you living in the real world!!!!!!!!

Croizer wasn't paid a penny for the job. Can't see Scullion taking money either.

Mickey Harte gives wee talks to a lot of clubs -  he even goes to Derry clubs - he goes wherever he is asked to go and the same for Scullion.

im no fan of bradleys but this is balls
madden did nothing this year with a better glenullion team than bradley started with a few years ago
any time i saw him this year madden looked as if was panicking all the time and was inept against slaughtneil

mcgilligan is the man for the job along with kelly and maybe a tokemn south derry man ;)
What evidence have you that McGilligan could do the job along with Kelly and if they add a token south derry man then you will end up with a token Derry team made up of northern footballers and wanabe hurlers, sounds like some progress >:( :( :o

The more you look at it you have to ask - who is feeding Heaney the info?

What about the artilce in the Tribune a few weeks ago too?

Where is it all coming from?
And where do you think the info is comimg from? The DCB have created the issues being discussed there is no secret agenda, this is Derry CB 'doing what it does best' shooting themselves in the foot and causing widespread demoralisation of hard working volunteers and dedicated players while burying their heads in the sand. My question is who are making these statements on behalf of the County Board? Every year at the Annual Convention I have been told that the Clubs in Derry seldom raise any issues in relation to County Teams' performances or the effectiveness of their Management Teams.  So don't depend on the Clubs to provide a solution to this mess. Generally speaking their is a lack of democracy and teamwork at Administration level similar to the lack of teamwork in the Senior football team.  Major problems in Derry and no real leaders to build a sustainable answer to our problems.

Although over the years he has actually played less game that others he has been a tremendous servant to Derry.  He would also still have ambitions of playing for Ireland again in the Compromise Series (and of being Ireland'd most capped player) and that is one of the reasons he is generally availble for higher profile matchs.

Lads what about my team
I think PC is going to shock everyone incuding the Derry panel and the team will be:
S McGuckin
K McGuckin N McCusker Eunan O'Kane
G O'Kane John O'Kane Joe O'Kane
F Doc and J Diver
E Muldoon E Bradley Patsy Bradley
Paul Bradley Paddy Bradley Seamus Bradley
I read on the Tyrone thread that Clonoe beat Errigal in th Championship, is that the team Damian Cassidy manages????  Its time to give him the Derry job before he 'goes off the boil'

There something about the O'Kane's and the Bradley's that PC likes  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ and that's about as much preparation as the actual starting team will get.   It'll give the TV3 pundits something to figure out (I don't think the other PC ...... Canavan that is !!!! will worry much about it)

In the Qualifiers Home advantage is a big plus and Paul Finlay was't playing against Derry lasy year.  Derry players would need an 'injury free' run in their Club championship and considering they don't have a Championship Manager !! I think this game could go either way

I saw a the incident on TV last night and it was not clear what the yellow cards were for (maybe Spillane and O'Canneide got that bit deleted) but Galvins behaviour was 'bad example' in is role as Kerry captain.  What ever the disciplinary outcome I think the Kerry County Board should take the captaincy from him.

Would agree with most of the posters here.  It was a very 'shabby' performnce especially the camera work and the studio lack of effect.  Mind you the poor attendance didn't help the atmosphere.

We have the team sheet on the computer and just print 2 copies for each game and write the numbers beside the players names.  Handier than writing the names out every time.

Well said, it's hardly rocket science and I also believe that there's nothing wrong with the tradition of keeping the Irish version of the players names

- i really fancy skinner for an all-star this year if he can keep injury free & his head settled
[/quote]
When Skinner puts the effort in to reach the level of fitness required for a County footballer and the awareness of a an unselfish team player then he could get an all-star because he is an exceptional talent

I'd say it'll be a low scoring game, Donegal's middle 8 are very strong.  With home advantage I think Donegal will shade it
