GAA Discussion / Re: 2006 All Stars
November 23, 2006, 03:48:20 PM
as had been said before wasnt a good year for full backs....
despite being roasted by Ronan Clarke in one of the games i thought Owens did play alot of football over the cours eof the championship,so id say he deserves it.
Cluxtons placement of his kickouts are something every goalkeeper could be learn from...
How many times did he find Shane Ryan Free during the championship..hes a very good keeper,so no complaints there from me.
While im a big admirer of Seamus Moynihan, i dont know how he got an all star on front of Bryan Cullen...Thought Cullen was magnificant throughout the championship...albeit a little disappointing against Mayo.
Midfield...Thought Paul McGrane had a storming year, but its hard to see past Murphy and O Se...
Agree with the forward selections.

GAA Discussion / Re: Defensive Drills

Thats one of the main problems i have when tackling believebelieve is getting my footwork correct, when a player runs with the ball at me,i normaly give him an advantage because of poor footwork...Now being normaly a forward its not that important to my game...But well its something id like to get better at.

Hurling Discussion / Re: Greatest Antrim Hurler

allways thought Paul McKillen was a great hurler...
He shone even when Antrim were getting hammered in all ireland semi finals by the likes of Killkennt and Tipp etc...

General discussion / Re: NFL Week 12

Joey Harrington will get an interesting welcome from the Lions in Detroit me thinks...Miami win for me
Dallas with the Onfire Tony Romo will have far too much for Tampa
Kansas will suprise Denver with Larry Johnson running for over 150 Yards and 3 TD's.

Declan McCabe from crosserlough was shaping well in the McKenna cup earlier this year, then seemed to vanish.   :-\

Connolly was one of the most talented footballers we have had since 1980...
but he doesnt deserve to go even be compared with the likes of King and Damien O Reily who done it for their county for 10/15 years.
There is a difference between "having talent" and actually doing the business Bottom Brick.
Maybe you should keep that in mind the next time you attempt one of your pathetic jibes.

Stephen King or Damien Reily for me mmmmmmm......

It makes no sense having the Under 21 competition in November...It should be played bfore the Under 21 county team play so as to throw up a few players...but thats another story....
Rossi...
Ray Cullivan has played a lot of football..... club,County,Sigerson with the college now and International rules,But if theres one young player thats physically able to handle it all..It is Cullivan......
If you look at some of the great young hopes we had...
John Tierney...didnt look after himself physically
Cian Mackey...physically very light and needed to be bulked up
Ronan Flanagan....same as Mackey
I think Cullivan much like Nicholas Walsh has done has a better chance of avoiding burnout because of his physical conditioning

GAA Discussion / Re: Drinking and the GAA

Alcohol tastes alot better after winning......
sheskin
a serious all day session for me would be
about 15 pints...
some Tequilla..Vodka and Red Bull.
Its one of those events though, that if you're serious about winning championships...has to be a very rare occurance from March to October.

Larry Reily or Pierson.....
First of all Larry Reily has done nothing in the Ulster Championship for Cavan in about 5 years....
Gerard Pierson is supremely talented and has shone in the league but bar one performance against Donegal after the league final when he kicked around 10 points mostly from frees...He done nothing.
So in future when trying to ridicule my suggestion,It would probably be better if you didnt make an even worse one in the process.

The Lurgan and Castlerahan Under 21 teams are both supremely talented alright CavanCola and i would consider ourselves and Drumalee to be something similar albeit probably not just as good....Its too soon for alot of them to be thrown into County Senior action though...I think we will just ahve to stick with out "stars" for a year or two yet...and phase in the young lads slowly.

Max
i never said Connolly was at the same standard as Maurice Fitz,Canavan or Matt Connor... Few are or will every reach that level
Connolly had outstanding ability though and could have been the dominant centre half back in Ulster in the late nineties,If he,to have had the dedication and determination.
