Quote1. Kevin Mcloughlin -has to be definate starter - great player for future.

thts a bit of a jump has he ever started a game?

mayo fans have this shocking habit of hyping up player fresh out of nappies only to turn on them as soo as they show any signs of weakness a similar thing is happening with O'shea and Cafferkey all very good players who must not be rushed .
boy do i hate that moronic Mantra  if they are good enough they are old enough.  its not a case of now or never just because they are not yet good enough does not mean they never will be.
we cant expect our players to come ready made out of the box . if they could anyone could manage the team even JOM
hpefully these lads will get plenty of low pressure challange games between now and roscommon and some of them will be raring to go. we just need patience

It's plain and simple you pick your best footballers, mcloughlin is one of them. You put him in there cos he is good enough. It's pretty simple. Nothing to do with age, this is based on football skills. Would you rather we stick with the andy moran's? It's time we put in youngsters provided they are good enough. Bring on the experienced lads like heaney or nallen at the end to close out games.

Yeah and Peter Durcan.  Now playing his Rugby in France. Himself and Cawley probably the best raw underage talent from about here since I remember.

Yeah durcan was a great athlete, had serious pace and power, wasn't a natural footballer but then again neither was david brady. But would have been a great asset to any team. Jaysus ballina have seen some talent slip through to other sports with duffy included. Never seen cawley myself in the gaa, know he was a class above in the soccer alright. Any other good young footballers that could make a difference at IC level  aside from K mcloughlin and G Cafferkey?

McLoughlin a Knockmore man. Another Knockmore man Brian Gibbons a class act but broke his hoof before Christmas and it would have been interesting to see would he have fared - minor chb in 06 and sub U21 last year. Alex Corduff could be a serious player if he wanted to be. If Mayo minors are to do well this year they need him in midfield but he has serious fitness/conditioning work to do. He has ability. He can play and is smart enough. Plus he can kill in contact. Trouble is he looks more like Paul O Connell than Paul Galvin. Fellas like paul O Connell cant get around a football field.

What about damian egan from that north mayo region, he was a minor 3 yrs ago. Has he figured with this yr's U-21 panel?  He wouldnt be in same league as alan. There was a right good footballer. Have ardnaree got any county underage players these days? or have any ones with the chance transferred across the bridge!

i was just trying to make the point that a player like ronaldson- if he had a few more inches- then he would be a definate starter for mayo no questions asked. He is a pure footballer and having seen him underage i know what a talent he is...
It would be nice too if seamus o'shea came through again -  i agree with that. He is in the david brady category alright. The likes of mcgarrity, parsons and harte need a seamie o' shea. Look at tyrone with colin holmes and kerry with scanlon. We should be looking to play more of our big men i think. O'Shea and McGarrity in midfield, parsons at no.11, trev and dillon either side
As for a cooper type figure then we dont look like producing one. Minors last year didnt have that classy forward to win them the AI.

Exactly. Well there was one guy but he d already gone to Ipswich Town. If he was about he would have sealed the deal. I ve no doubt in my mind about that. There does nt seem to be such a player in minors either this year either( though O Connor looks one to watch and minor again next year I believe) or further down the line.

As for Ronaldson. I remember Máirtín Beag McHugh and even his brother James being great 11s at a time when the game was harder and they were small men. He certainly has a lot of what an 11 needs.

sure does - good to see a brainy footballer...has more about him than the likes of andy moran. would be nice to see a game plan based around him to see him pull the strings.
It is a pity about young cawley, add him along with pearse, gavin, john o' hara to the ones that got away.

it's some pity ronaldson lacks that bit of height. Surely the cleverest player on the mayo panel. Has to be some role found to keep him in the team, not sure how but thats jom's problem i guess. Here's hoping.

big game for mayo... need a win to boost us before championship preparations. This league campaign has been strange. We could have been challenging for honours. Derry were there for the taking and donegal + dublin could and should have been wins (dublin more so). If we can just start games before the 25th minute we would be in a better position. This needs to be looked at. Considering the pessimistic outlook many mayo fans have at the moment we could find ourselves in 3rd place and that would be great. We should look at the positives and they are
1. Kevin Mcloughlin -has to be definate starter - great player for future.
2. Barry Moran -  can be a leader of attack in front of the square
3. Ger Cafferkey - good defender not sure about no.3 but best we have. If doesnt make it at 3 then should be accomodated.
4. Aidan O' Shea - could we have the mayo twin towers with moran, could start in corner and drift out to help out the pitch to negate our poor starts and when we get into game he can drift into full forward line alongside moran
5. Donal Vaughan - good option, won't start champ but one for the future.
6. Getting andy out of corner forward - not an IC corner forward
7. Giving conor a kick up the arse - can work off barry moran if he wants,  should be waiting under him.
8. Liam O'malley - has been most impressive, one or two hairy moments.
9. Mark Ronaldson-  impressive footballer, has a great brain, should see some game time over summer
10. Trevor Mortimer - injury free whether he remains at no.11 we'll have to wait and see, prefer him at no.10

Thats 10 of my positives. Dont ask about my negatives... Thats for another day.

Hang in there kid, we ll talk you through it. By the way thought you were a little rough on Caff. earlier but sure we ll see.

wouldnt say i was rough now, he looks a little flat footed, know he's a very dedicated player but nt sure he is a no.3. Prob a no.6 in my eyes. But don't worry kid what would i know

its a wonder seamus o shea was never tried in the backs. Think he 'd be a great no. 6 or even full back against the bigger no.14's
#266
Ger Cafferkey doing ok at the mo, don't think he is a full back however. Seems to lost a bit of pace from his teenage years. Think the injuries have lost him that crucial yard because he needs it to make up for his lack of physicality.. He lacks the presence of a kevin cahill figure. He not played much club football at no. 3 and don't think he will either. Think he is rated more by the county then his club. But he is worthy of his place at the moment and here's hoping he grows into the no.3 jersey. I suppose what he needs is a long run in the jersey.
