What about words/phrases only used in GAA...has anyone ever heard John Motson talk about a "schemozzle" in an Arsenal/Man Utd game?? ;D

I have no problems with Protestants or members of any other religious group (except maybe the KKK) joining the GAA andthere is a case for the GAA doingmore to promote the games in partsof the North but I don't think we should do this at the expense of diluting the main tenets of the GAA i.e. promoting and developing IRISH sports, culture, language etc.

On page 18 of the PWC economic appraisal it dicusses the fact that the Sports council reported in 2003 that "...each of the major venues for respective sports, despite recent renovations, fall short of the standards of safety and comfort found at arenas in larger town and cities of Great Britain".  The following paragraph states that the in the opinion of the Sports Council there is work to be done "...just to bring these facilities (Casement, Windsor, Ravenhill) up to the minimum standard required to host major competitions..."

On p32 under the objectives sections it has the objective of bringing one major sporting event to NI p.a. and uses the example of the UEFA Cup Final or a rugby international.

IMO what this report says is that Casement requires significant work to bring it up to the standard to be able to host a major European sporting event e.g. a UEFA Cup Final or a rugby international...so what??  As I said above nobody is suggesting bringing a major European sporting event to Casement (apart from the Ulster Hurling Final obviously)

Does anyone apart from Lawrie seriously think that NI will attract 30,000 supporters to a sacker game...ever?!!??!

I'd love to se Antrim win the Tommy Cooper cup :D :D ;)

And here's me thought Mike Reid was dead ;)

If Casement doesn't "meet safety standards", how can the Ulster Council/Antrim County Board get away with hosting matches there??  I think what PWC mean is that it doesn't meet the standards for a UEFA Cup Final, which is dead-on as no-one has suggested hosting Galatasary and Espanyol at Casement.  I've had a quick scan through the eco appr.  It reads to me that PWC set out with the conclusion that a 42,000 stadium at the Maze was what SIB and DCAL wanted and then sought to justify it esp. since the perceived big stumbling block of the GAA was on board.  It seems to me that the level of consultation carried out was negligible and it totally ignores the existence of Clones.  One of the more laughable comments I saw somewhere was that the GAA would support a 42,000 seater stadium at the Kesh as it would enable them to bring more big games to "N Ireland"!!

Yes the TM Cup is now being shown live by RTE @ 12:15pm.  Sorry, I haven't a clue where you would get to see Saturday's matches in Glasgow but I'm sure plenty of places will be showing them. ???

While it would pain me, from a hurling developmental and promotional point of view, to "abandon" Down, Derry and with Armagh putting a lot of work in...with purely an Antrim head on we need to go to Leinster, minor, U21 and senior.  Otherwise we'll always be in the limbo of being too good for the Christy Ring and nowhere near good enough for the McCarthy. :(

Time to revive this for us long suffering Saffron supporters.  Yes the GAA and media hoped for a Paidi vs Micko final but we're left with Micko vs Jody.  Seriously for Sat's game I would realistically make Wicklow slight favourites but our boys got plenty of shooting practice against Kilkenny & London and got not a bad result v. Clare in Ennis.  CJ's been a goal machine ;D so far and it's great to see that RTE will be bringing his genius to a national TV audience!! :P  Seriously this guy is a real talent, had he been born in Tyrone he would be touted as the next Canavan, we have to make do with him being the next Mickey Darragh ;)!!  Though I have misgivings about the TMC, it's a competition, we're in the final and when was the last time Antrim won four matches in a row??  A victory would get our boys used to winning, also some valuable Croke Park experience, along with last year's minor final and St Gall's in the club final some of our boys playing at HQ for the third time in 18 months.  Unfortunately no Paddy Cunningham or Kevin McGourty but Sean Kelly is back...any thoughts??

It's my view that the Ulster Council has played a blinder on this one...they backed the proposal long ago knowing it would never happen ;D

Hurler...what about the minors on Sat?? 31 point defeat...Jeez ???
