I'm telling you. Kerry's poor team at that time made him look good. He was no better than Joey Cunningham. If Fitzgerald had been born a Tyrone man, we'd have made a player out of him.

CJ McGourty - if this lad was born in Kerry, Tyrone, Dublin or Cork he'd be the new Gooch. Unfortunately he's going to be a Mattie Forde or Declan Browne and never grace the big day in September.

Right i'm afraid i'm going to have to bite .....

Its true enough that Kerry team wasn't the greatest but Fitzgerald was pure magic. Jesus don't you remember the scores he got ?

I know your only taking the piss but still.

If Peter the Great had been born in Kerry, you'd never have heard of Maurice Fitzgerald....

Ah now ONeill, you don't even believe that yourself.

Give the Kerrymen some credit, noones going to bite that :P

QuoteWho would u have picked ?

Well O Sé sticks out as the obvious choice although maybe he's too similar to McGrane. Probably a toss up between Cavanagh and O'Hara. O'Hara's goal scoring prowess might swing it in his favour although its a switch that will unfortunately never be made!

I was actually thinking Eamon myself although i'm obviously biased.

I wouldn't exactly have considered his goal scoring ability as his best feature. The man runs like a train through defences and no offence to my own county but he practically did 2002 on his own.

Imagine the misfortune - to be born into the most populated county in the country and the county with the second most All Ireland titles in history. Poor Ciarán.

If I coulda picked a midfielder to partner Paul McGrane over the past 5 years, he'd be nowhere near the top of the list.

Who would u have picked ?

Tell you what - if Ó'Sé was born in Dublin instead and Whelan was born in Kerry I reckon Ó'Sé would still have more All-Ireland medals.

He would if only because Whelan wouldn't have gotten on the starting 15 of Kerry.

Of all the footballers in the country he picks Ciaran Whelan ?

Number one on the "born in the wrong place" list HAS to be Declan Browne. He *Would* get on any panel in the country including Kerry, Tyrone, Dublin etc.

And man for man our own Eamon O'Hara is well above Ciaran Whelan as well. Ciarans a great player but hes never being that great.

With Declan after recently retiring from inter-county you'd think that an article like this would have being about him, a man who truely was denied fistfuls of medals because of geography.

You discount 1 player for not playing for 70 mins but want to include another who wasn't on th epitch for 20 mins.

Just pointing out it's difficult for any player to be amazing for the whole 70 minutes, the really great ones (like DJ) made it count when they got their chance!

DJ was a wasted position on the field for Kilkenny for at least the last 3 years before he retired. The mans a legend, a great hurler in his day but his day was long gone when he was still continually and incorrectly picked to start for his county.

Maybe Whelan should be on the team simply to share some of that boys in blue magic he uses on referees to ensure he never gets sent off no matter who, when or where (usually under the ref's nose) he assaults..................

LOL

A very helpful skill indeed.

How is that the same thing ?

My point about DJ was ALL he did in a match in the last few years was maybe 1-2 good things and that was it. The rest of the time he was a wasted position.

Galway and Antrim into Leinster.

Would it really benefit them ?

I remember reading about when Galway entered the Munster championship in 1959 and .. well. Lets just say i don't think they benefited. In 11 years in Munster they won only 1 match.

Granted Leinster is nowhere near the level of Munster but whats beneficial for them ? more competiveness to the province ?

Bit surprised by a lot of the selections here to be honest.

Happy enough to see Eamon O'Hara selected by two of you though :)

If we are going on form this year so far then i would have thought you'd have more of the Sligo (Ross Donovan (corner back), Eamon and Kieran Quinn (midfield)), Leitrim(John McKeon at the very least) and Monaghan players in there.

It reminds me of the "best XV in the country (hurling)" selections you see on the hurling forums. For years everyone kept throwing in DJ Carey when in all fairness he shouldn't have being selected for Kilkenny nevermind the best XV in the country. Living on reputation and "one moments of magic" which is all well and good until you realise a match is 70 minutes long.

Its not because Sligo won Connacht :P

If anything it probably make me think again about going but the reason i'm going is to meet up with the better half who is going to be there at least another 2 years.

So just hit an American recruitment agencys website and hope for the best ?

Hey lads, looking into heading stateside for a while and wondering about work etc. I'd wanna be involved with the GAA scene anyways but just wondering if theres anyone who can give me a bit of advice on how to get a work visa ?

I'm an IT professional but not too bothered about what kind of work.

Thanks.
