'Kerry would argue that they themselves were unfortunate to have a free scored against them in the 64th minute when Gavin White performed a perfectly legal shoulder on Cillian McDaid. The problem with that is McDaid collided into Jack Barry and as the Galway midfielder was sandwiched and had no opportunity to fall from the tackle it was a free.'
.. taken from Brian Gavins' 'Referee Review' in the examiner

Has anyone any idea what rule prevents a player from shouldering someone if they do not allow for the recipient to 'fall'
Or this just 'made up' nonsense?

From a  Pat Mc Eneany interview last week;

"A goalkeeper taking a kick-out, can a goalkeeper soccer dribble the ball out and without taking the ball into his hands, kick the ball 40-yards up the field? Yes, he can.

So what he's saying is., a goalkeeper ,  instead of lumping it upfield off the tee, can knock the ball off the tee, dribble it as far as he wants, as long as he doesn't pick it up?

Yes
Rule 2.7a
The player taking a kick-out may kick the ball more than once before any other player touches it but may not take the ball into his hands.

Sean is a man of integrity who will show no bias so less of the citicism.
Not questioning his integrity - I don't know the man from Adam.
But it isn't right. What if the Gaa appointed a clubmate of Cian O'Neills to ref the game? Kerry wouldn't be happy with it and rightly so.

Brendan Crowley and Cian O'Neill are both from Newbridge...  thankfully there was no controversial calls on saturday for anyone to be unhappy about  :-\

If you watch the Sunday game highlights and pause on full time there's a Galway guy(comer I think) who jumps on the back of an Armagh man, couldn't understand where that fitted in the sequence of things.

Pretty sure that is Rafferty

Jesus that game in 98 brings back bad memories  ,2001 Ciaran McNally going off injured was a huge blow we never recovered from , 2007 minors from memory we were leading near the end and had a scorable free overturned for a hop ball which i think Galway won and scored their goal from ( memory could be playing tricks on me though )

The minor memories ties in with my memory too - certainly I've always remembered it as a Galway goal with virtually the last kick to win it.
Conroy and McKaigue both survivors of that game!

McKaigue will not have happy memories of that hop ball - if i'm right it was awarded against him for goading after the initial free was won.
Lot of 'outrage' at the time around Caffreys' Dublin doing it it and McKaigue was picked up for it.

Never seen him do it since so prehaps there is a lesson there for those wanting to cut out unsavoury elements of the game.

While I completely agree with the above that we need to move on from the TK stuff as he's had his punishment now (and it's no Galway people here who are calling for his head), the idea that comer was the instigator is wrong and needs to stop.

Morgan, somewhat understandably in the joys of utter celebration, shouldered comer in the back and started mouthing a bit. Comer, who doesn't shy away from much to be fair, shoved back and then comer was surrounded by a few Armagh and then everyone started piling over. That's what happened and saying otherwise is starting a wrongful discussion about a player who still has to go perform in 2 weeks
100% that is exactly what happened. Anyone sitting in that area of the Cusack will say the same.

Wasn't at the game but the camera footage shown on TSG appears to tell a clear & different story.
Morgan is mouthing something alright.. thou it looks more likely that it is at his own teammate and if it is abuse at someone from Galway then they are a fair bit away.
Comer deliberately runs over to Morgan, starts his own bit of mouthing and instigates the shoulder dunt which is also clearly not in the back.
At that point Forker & ONeill get involved with Kelly being the next player to get involved.

You've just admitted you weren't at the game! Considering multiple Galway people and an Armagh fan have just explained on the previous page that's not what happened, has it not occurred to you that the camera's may have missed the start of it? The Morgan shoulder into Comer happened about 5-10 seconds before the part you saw when the camera panned over, which was Comer following Morgan to remonstrate. Maybe he shouldve just taken it, but as I said, he's generally not one to shy away either

Off course it occured to me that the cameras missed something, which why i led by stating i wasn't at the game.  But nowhere (that i saw) did anyone mention the gap between Morgans shoulder and Comers and no one mentioned Comer running after Morgan to remonstrate.   The images and what i was reading didn't match. Had that been included i wouldn't have questioned it, now it all makes sense.

And as for whether or not he should have taken it - no way - noone would have expected him too.

speaking of previous encounters .. i hope Conor Lane is given the opportunity to repeat his 2015 display

Is there any chance the 2 reds were issued to the 'first men in to contribute to a melee' - Forker & Kelly - but the officals boobooed bigtime & messed up orange 13 and 3??  Stranger things have happend but we'll never hear the truth as there is no way they could admit that.  The idea being put out chiefly by RTE that it was decided to make captains the 'sacrificial lambs' has to be pure nonsense especally given that O'Neill was captain. ( unless that is another GAA rule i don't know about)

Comer has to be first & probably only Galway name on a list of instigators... but I'd hope & expect the GAA have sense,  and neither he or Kelly miss the semi.

Only just realised last night that the minor game is in Parnell Park and not in CP before the senior game.
WTF?
As if it's not expensive enough to travel, tickets etc but to expect Derry to buy two tickets for games in two different venues on the same day is ridiculous.

Keeping the dublin clubs in money can be the only excuse.

Did Derry Co. Board ever question this and did they get an answer?

No idea.
I can't think of any good reason for this.
It can't be a capacity thing, CP will not be a sell out for the 2 quarter finals.
The only extra support would be from Galway minors, and lets face it that's 2-3K at a real push. Loads of capacity in CP to manage that. Even 10K extra Galway fans would be no problem.

There was some talk that they didn't want u17s playing in front of large crowds & having to deal with the pressures etc, which seems nonsense considering the Ulster Minor final was played before the main game.  If they did play it in croke park on sunday would there be many more than 10K in to watch it ?

The other semi between Kerry and Mayo is set for Tullamore on sat afternoon ... another venue that i presume suits neither county, and again could easily have been played prior to the senior games on sunday and would have suited both sets of supporters.

Would love to hear the reasoning behind these dates and venues.

Not a big fan of loads of rule changes but would something like for kickouts teams have to have all players in their position area for the kick, most likely there are ways this can be exploited, but just an idea

After a goal the game should restart with a throw up in MF. Players back in traditional positions. Clock obv stopped and time added on appropriately.
Bin forward, backward and sideways mark. Mark from a Kick out I'm kind of ok with.

will this not just result up with the 'inferior' midfielders grapling, dragging, holding, blocking, fouling, faking head injuries... anything to prevent the armagh type long ball into the full forward.

i see Gary Brennan in the Examiner this week propose 'having just one player from each team contest the throw-in with the other two players outside the 65m line' to overcome the consistent fouling at the throw-in.  Would have certainly suited him as a player.

At the game I only heard two incidents of booing. Both for poor refereeing decisions.

You can't be serious? A large number of our fans booed reguarly on frees etc. It was embarrassing.

A sour note on a fantastic showing from Armagh fans. Big numbers and loud, just wish we'd leave the booing at home.
In fairness Murphy earned a few boos for the way he was carrying on.
I'm not a fan of the booing and it looked and sounded classless on TV but a friend at the match said Murphy was at all sorts with Forker and that caused the booing. Still though I'm embarrassed, and it appears the Buckfast Boys have come out of hibernation now that a couple of games have been won.
Noticed the booing with Armagh fans all year. Stupid behaviour from bandwagon fans. Donegal ones used to do it quiet a under Jim mcguinness but thankfully they seem to have cut it out.
Yeah not a fan of the booing myself but lost an awful lot of respect for Murphy yesterday. In fairness the buckfast brigade made the atmosphere I thought. And they fairly belted out the national anthem.

I'm not a fan of the booing but neither would I be getting too sanctimonious on it. There are enough drab games in gaelic football with no atmosphere where you can hear a pin drop with the sideways backwards crap. It's funny that it seems to be mostly Tyrone fans getting upset over it. Maybe they are just raging that they won an AI in front of a half empty Croke Park with no atmosphere.

Would take winning an AI in an empty stadium rather than having my supporters boo the opposition after winning a 2 games back to back after 8 years.

No point defending it. Booing isn't right in gaelic football, if you want to do that go watch a soccer game.

I assume you tell that to your own fans also?

Absolutely. Hate booing altogether. One of the best things about the gaa is that fans can mix in a stadium and not be segregated like soccer. We should all appreciate the skill involved and not have constant booing of players.

Only a matter of time until the GAA come together and agree to put Armagh fans in a cattle pen.

as far as i remember they discussed doing that a few years ago with Tyrone fans, but turned out a good dose of Ivermectin sorted the most of them

in all fairness -   a Dublin division 3 north game has got to be more appealing than a Leinster Championship game
Perhaps he wants to play outfield for Dublin and Dessie will not let him..

First time since 1994 that Kerry will not be among the final eight teams** for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

** Pre-2001 by reaching at least the Munster SFC Final, 2001 onwards by reaching at least the All-Ireland Quarter Finals.

after a quick search i reckon that is the first time since 1957 that Kerry will only have played one game in the Championship .. can anyone confirm?
