No one wants to see anyone lose their home

Not sure Willie would extend us all the same courtesy, however there is always a home for willie, its the big one on the right hand side on the Loughgall Rd coming out of Armagh.

LOL!

Well, no sensible, mature or reasonable person then.

In the plea for funds made by Pastor Barrie Halliday he mentioned twice that Willie owns a house and made the point on both occasions that it was mortgaged. Might be a case that he's playing down the equity position.

No one wants to see anyone lose their home but there's no doubt Willie deserves to be taught a lesson. If Galloway could get a public statement of apology (now that would hurt Willie) and some nominal form of settlement he should probably take it.

He's suing Google (as owners of Youtube) and Independent News and Media as well and sure if it's decided that the comments were defamatory then these two organisations will be ordered to pay damages and they will have deeper pockets than Willie.

Bounce started brilliantly - some cool experiments with interesting findings - however I thought it went on a bit. Took three hundred pages to say what could have been said in a hundred maybe.

Nothing to see it all in Keane's book. Doesn't break the mould of your typical banal football autobiography at all and he's left a lot out, most notably his relationship with Delaney and the FAI before he decided to go back.

Seven Deadly Sins by David Walsh is fantastic, best sports book I've read in a while. In the same category Tyler Hamilton's The Secret Race is very good.

I can't remember the last time I read a truly brilliant GAA Book - The Club and Donal Og's book were good but nothing spectacular. To my mind you have to go back to 2003 and Road to Croker by Eamonn Sweeney for a really enjoyable GAA read.

Just realised that Spurs away game is on when I happen to be in London. Anyone ever try to get away tickets through the club? Or is it best to try and get a home ticket with THFC and sit there quietly.

Not a club member or any of that jazz so would have no priority entitlements.

Any guidance appreciated.

Forget about away tickets through the club. Tickets are allocated on a sliding scale according to how many games you went to in recent years. Demand is going to be such that the only ones getting tickets will be those with double-digit appearances (so to speak).

Your best bet is the ticket exchange on RAWK. A thread will be opened closer to the time for the Spurs game. Ask, and hopefully you will receive.

Many thanks gents. Looks like either RAWK or tap some of my Yiddish mates for a favour.

Just bought Friday Night Lights on Amazon - I get the feeling I should have bought and read this years ago. The reviews are unreal.

Gents,

I'm heading over for the Man City game in April, can anyone recommend cheap and cheerful lodgings? Nothing fancy, just a pit for sleeping in that's handy to the town and, of course, Anfield.

PM me with any useful information.

Cheers.

Schedule for official opening of Atheltic Grounds on Saturday Night

6.30 -7.00      SCOR

7.00 -7.20      TEAMS ENTER PITCH ACCOMPINED BY DRUM

7.20 -7.24      TEAMS PARADE WITH ARTANE BAND

7.24 -7.29       CAIRDINEAL AGUS EASPAG

7.29 -7.30      AMHRAN NA bhFIANN

7.30              THROW IN

8.05 -8.08       CLUB PARADE ENTERS PITCH

8.08 -8.15      CATHAOIRLEACH AGUS UACHTATARN

8.15 -8.18      CLUB PARADE LEAVES PITCH

8.18 -8.20      TEAMS RE-ENTER PITCH

I presume the teams are crawling onto the pitch if its to take them 20 minutes. Going to be tough on the drummer.

What are the thoughts with having a Cardinal and Bishop as part of the opening?
Is it not time to move past the days of the Catholic Church being intertwined with the GAA. An increasing number of people in Ireland (I presume north as well as south) do not attend religious services for a variety of reasons.
I don't mean to hijack the thread - it just seemed a bit 1950s when I saw it listed.

Couldn't agree more. The GAA are quick to point out that they are a non-political organisation but have made no effort whatsoever to appear to be non-religious. Very outdated in my opinion.

Tom Humphries did his Locker Room column on Higgins yesterday, thought it was spot on. Higgins was so risk averse that it made people think he was a 'genius' because he sped around the table and took on shots that others wouldn't. In the end that was his demise.

Would any of you claim against somebody in your own family?

Rhetorical question, but the reason I bring it up is that a pal of mine is a Solicitor who was telling me that he has a client who is claiming off her da's insurance for a minor accident. The aul fella is absolutely livid and says that she'll start civil war in the family if she goes through with it. What a bitch!

I know, but don't associate with, a man from Malahide who once said that "The GAA is full of people from parsihes who like to go to nightclubs and start fights." The contempt I hold for that statement can not be put into words.

The day I knew Enda's game was up was the Dublin County Final in 2005 when a very yoing Mark Vaughan absolutely roasted him in the first half, scoring 5/6 points off him before Na Fianna made a change. That's just over four years ago! He must be in there for his expertise in sports psychology because, whilst once a great player, he's simply not that standard anymore.

Gordon Strachan is the man for the job  :D I think Marty O'Neill would do a great job a liverpool, has a great track record with shit teams yeroooo

As hilarious as that sounds Carra said in his autobiography that, before contact was made with Bentiez, Rick Parry told him and Gerrard that Strachan was the most impressive candidate in interviews for the job!

Was just reading through the match programme today (which I thought was very well done) and noticed that the Harps have claimed the county titles won by Young Irelands. Now I know that the Harps have always had a connection with them and all that craic but being registered in the GAA as Young Irelands definitely means a different club and you can't claim those titles. I know it's only a small thing but it was a wee bit confusing

Sure saying that the Ogs is a splinter club we should be claiming your four county titles as well.  :P
